Kim Marathons? Like running?? Like exercise???

No thanks :P

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) | 220 comments What is this exercise you speak of? Is that like walking to the bus/tram stop??

message 153: by Kim (new)

Kim Is it exercise when I change page?

message 154: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) | 220 comments I think it's more like when you click the mouse button...

Sandie | 39 comments When I'm not reading, I am probably working, sleeping, hanging out with my roommates, or studying for the GRE. I play the occasional video game on my DS or Sonic the Hedgehog on my Game Gear (this mostly occurs on weekends).

I probably should have specified on what kind of marathons. Movie marathons is what I meant to say. Although some of my friends have tried to convince me to train for a marathon, but I'm not much of a runner.

Oh well those are perfectly acceptable then.

message 158: by Franky (new)

Franky There is a certain amount of exercise in movie marathons...getting up to grab the popcorn, turning up the volume with the remote, going to the fridge to grab soda....it can be exhausting.

How, that I'm thinking about it, it really beats the treadmill.

message 159: by Pixelina (new)

Pixelina When I am not reading books, I read tarot :-D
I also journal a lot and keep a dream journal. And I love games, been playing a game called Anarchy Online more years then I like to think about.
I used to take a lot of photos but more or less stopped when someone told me they were all 'empty and shallow, devoid of any interest'
Oh I love to cook too, and make pretty and sweet little cakes.
Learning yoga too.

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) | 220 comments Jeanette, how goes the tarot reading? My mom got really into that a while back and taught me some. Needs a lot of "fluid thought" or some such, I found. Or perhaps what you call intuition. It's fun, though!

I took the new GRE in October. I spent the previous 3 months studying my ass off but I rocked it. What do you want to study in grad school?

Disregard the hater! Keep taking photos if it enriches you.

Kim My photography is still going well. Here's a couple pics I took this week that I was very happy with - Sapphire Rockmaster Damselfly and Blue Triangle.

message 164: by Melki (new)

Melki | 205 comments Nice, Kim. I never have luck getting bugs to hold still for me. Especially when I want to hit them with a rolled up magazine. (Just kidding, you entomologists out there!)

message 165: by Kim (new)

Kim It takes a combination of quick lens, good flash, lots of pics and lots of patience. I chased the butterfly around for about 15min and it took me a couple hours to get a good damselfly pic. They're very skittish and fly away when you get within a couple meters of them. I had to lay very still just above the water to get one to come near me.

message 166: by ♥Xeni♥ (new)

♥Xeni♥ (xeni) | 220 comments Wow, Kim! Dedication!! And they really turned out lovely! (better than most books out there have em, if I may be so bold to say so.)

message 167: by Kim (new)

Kim Thanks Xeni :) It's my favourite hobby (after reading of course)

message 168: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (leeees) So many interesting hobbies discussed here!

Aside from reading and movies, I just completed grad school last May so I am trying to catch up on my bookshelf- my other other main hobby is my dog. I feel like I'm away so often that when I have time off I like to take her out to go for hikes or walks or to dog parks.

My grandmother just recently taught me how to knit, but I have yet to finish my first scarf.. Maybe I'll complete it by next winter!

My bucket list includes running a marathon- ideally I'd love to run the NYC marathon in November but it just feels like such a lofty goal, one day....

Kim, welcome to the US! While living in Seattle one thing you must do (especially with your love of photography) is take a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway- along the way stop in Napa/Sonoma for some wine, in between Napa and San Francisco you'll be in Big Sur for some great hiking and you'll also come along this beautiful restaurant called Nepenthe that you will have to plan to go to for dinner at sunset- the view is amazing- and the food isn't so bad either! It's situated right along the PCH kind of in the middle of nowhere but worth the trip, and then go to Muir woods and see the Redwoods which are impressive.

Starbucks is on every corner in NYC too. I keep petitioning them to have walk up windows in the city because on cold mornings on my way to Central Park with the dog it would be nice to have something warm to sip on but dogs aren't allowed inside.

Last weekend I went to see Mark Twain's house which was absolutely beautiful and as fate would have it- I ended up there again last night for a fundraiser! He happened to live next to Harriet Beecher Stowe so I plan on going back up there again to tour her house next.

Kimberly | 7 comments When I'm not reading, I blog. I sit in front of my computer when the kids are in bed and I pretend to be a travel writer. That's the beauty of the cyber world, you can be whoever you want. My blog

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) Until April, when not reading [which was sadly, only during train commute to and from work] I was working non-stop in an office verifying doctor's licenses and insurance claims. Sounds droll, really very interesting, to me anyways! Beyond that, we are always taking our 2 dachshunds on hikes with us.

I got in a bit of an accident in late April and haven't been allowed to go back to work quite yet, but perhaps before the end of the summer. I'd hate to be holed up during the rare beautiful sun breaks here! The plus side is, now I have gotten to read many books I've been meaning to get around to for years. :)

message 171: by Jayme (new)

Jayme Tiffani, I hope you are feeling better soon and start doing the things you love.

Kayce, what is upcycling?

Kim, love your photos!

September - June I am teaching, grading, and creating activites/plans to keep my angels focused. During those glorious summer months I travel, garden, nap, lunch with the girls, and sit in my beach chair gazing at the ocean.

I also belong to a service organization that advocates for the victims of trafficking and domestic violence.

I have a great life.

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) Thank you, Jayme. I appreciate the thought =)

message 174: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (littlebunnylibrary) hello all!

I've enjoyed reading what you all get up to when you're not reading! I for one, when I'm not working, spend my time studying for my MA in Translation, or learning to belly dance! I am a member of the Desert Jewels dance troupe from Derby :) I love dancing just as much as reading!

message 175: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ I love to cook and especially with the ingredients of Fall, so I have been doing quite a bit of that. Also going to the movies today to see the Seven Psychopaths. Has anyone seen?

message 176: by Kathy (new)

Kathy My favorite non-reading activity is geocaching. Yes, I am one of the million of people who take modern technology (hand-held GPS) and roam the woods looking for prizes hidden in Tupperware or old ammo boxes. What can I say!?!

message 177: by Jim (new)

Jim Vuksic Upon retiring in 2001, my late wife insisted that I create a bucket list of challenging goals.

During the past nine years, I have been able to cross-off all but one - visiting all 50 states by car (43 down, 7 to go); however, upon giving it some serious thought, I have decided to fly to Hawaii, instead of attempting to drive.

When not on a road trip, I keep in close contact with my four adult children and four grandchildren. Between that and enjoying a fairly active social life, I am kept quite busy.

message 178: by [deleted user] (new)

Reading is, of course, my first love. In addition to that all-consuming hobby, I am an avid journaler, bird-watcher, horse-back rider, sketcher, singer, gardener, farmer, and hiker.

Kier | 7 comments When I'm not reading I'm doing exercises that I can't do while reading (running, yoga, lifting), knitting or crocheting, occasionally writing a little, and of course, working.

message 180: by Melissa Hoyle (new)

Melissa Hoyle | 36 comments I'm a bartender and I'm always searching for creative drink recipes. So I can use that excuse to read at work! If I'm not reading one can usually find me in the kitchen cooking or baking, trying to keep up with my Italian (miserably), trying to learn to knit (of which I cannot master to save my life), gardening, hanging out with my boyfriend and my pets, or reading multiple blogs.

Hi Kier! I have been trying to learn to knit. Do you have any recommended books, websites, or YouTube videos that might help me? I can't seem to get the hang of it. Any tips are much appreciated!

Amethyst | 2 comments When not reading, my time is mainly spent at school (although the two often overlap). If there happens to be spare time left, I spend it trying to capture the vividness of my books into my dancing.
