What are you reading?

The Kate Daniels series (Magic Bites) you mentioned was a similar experience for me. A bit harder to get into at first. I stopped reading after maybe the third novel? However, I went back to the series later and I am SO glad I did. It just got better and better. Ended up being one in my top favorite series list. Just an encouragement to stick with it. I'm glad I did.

This is a great series, enjoy :)

Dangerous Women - an anthology edited by Gardner Dozois & George R. R. Martin (sorry, couldn't find a book cover in Goodreads...)

I'm enjoying them so far. They are quite different from the TV show (as you would expect). I have to occasionally either look up internet translaations when the French phrases are not translated for us, but those are few and minor inconveniences. Good so far.

The tv series is only based upon the books; they are quite different, but good imho. After all, some producer somewhere thought enough of them to make it into a long-running series. Enjoy.

. So far, it's pretty good. It's got that hardboiled detective vibe.

I have one of those on my Kindle. I keep meaning to read it. I've heard really good things about that author.

Yeah--I have some things I don't love about the books but they're fun and I like the details he gives about magic and the way it works in his world.

I hear that they get better as you go along, particularly at book four. I must have read it in a thread somewhere.

Just dystopian but I can't find a good fantasy book that i am interested in at the moment.

I liked Landline and I think plenty of others will like it too. Did it change my life? No, but it was fun while I read it. You know the premise is that the main character is able to go back in time and talk with her then boyfriend --now husband-- on a landline in the bedroom she grew up in. That time slippage aspect was very cool.
Since The Divide: American Injustice in the Age of the Wealth Gap, I've read Seven Wild Sisters: A Modern Fairy Tale, the short stories Yellow Dog and Dog Boys, also by Charles de Lint, I Am Not a Cop!, which was meh, for me and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock which I liked.
Now I'm reading Death Comes for the Archbishop for my RL book club.
