Julia | 615 comments Nicqui,

I liked Landline and I think plenty of others will like it too. Did it change my life? No, but it was fun while I read it. You know the premise is that the main character is able to go back in time and talk with her then boyfriend --now husband-- on a landline in the bedroom she grew up in. That time slippage aspect was very cool.

Since The Divide: American Injustice in the Age of the Wealth Gap, I've read Seven Wild Sisters: A Modern Fairy Tale, the short stories Yellow Dog and Dog Boys, also by Charles de Lint, I Am Not a Cop!, which was meh, for me and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock which I liked.

Now I'm reading Death Comes for the Archbishop for my RL book club.

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Polterheist (Esther Diamond, #5) by Laura Resnick , moved right into and finished The Misfortune Cookie (Esther Diamond, #6) by Laura Resnick . Then I was in the mood for some military science fiction so I also finished the first two books in The Lost Fleet series: Dauntless (The Lost Fleet, #1) by Jack Campbell and Fearless (The Lost Fleet, #2) by Jack Campbell . Now moving into Courageous (The Lost Fleet, #3) by Jack Campbell .

message 2606: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda I finished Bonds of Justice (Psy-Changeling, #8) by Nalini Singh which was great. I am now reading Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews which is very confusing right now with unfamiliar terms and a strange world.

message 2607: by Nicqui (new)

Nicqui | 35 comments Finished The Red Pyramid yesterday. Started The Siren and the Sword. Moving from Childrens/YA to Erotica is a bit weird, I know.

Karin | 3 comments Hi MadameZelda,

The Kate Daniels series (Magic Bites) you mentioned was a similar experience for me. A bit harder to get into at first. I stopped reading after maybe the third novel? However, I went back to the series later and I am SO glad I did. It just got better and better. Ended up being one in my top favorite series list. Just an encouragement to stick with it. I'm glad I did.

message 2609: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Courageous (The Lost Fleet, #3) by Jack Campbell and decided I was ready for a drastic change in setting so I started Thieftaker (Thieftaker Chronicles, #1) by D.B. Jackson last night. So far, so good.

message 2610: by MadameZelda (last edited Aug 16, 2014 08:33AM) (new)

MadameZelda Finished Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews and am now reading an even weirder book (another one!) A Demon and His Witch (Welcome to Hell, #1) by Eve Langlais . At this point I prefer Magic Bites over A Demon and His Witch.

message 2611: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments I read The Milk of Birds, which is one of the better books I've read this year. I started Talulla Rising, but 38 pages in my sister sent me the new Outlander book Written in My Own Heart's Blood, and it's sooo hard to tear myself away from it!

message 2612: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Thieftaker (Thieftaker Chronicles, #1) by D.B. Jackson and liked it enough that I want to read #2 in the series. Until I can get my hands on it however, I've started Darkwalker (Nicolas Lenoir, #1) by E.L. Tettensor .

Dangerous Women - an anthology edited by Gardner Dozois & George R. R. Martin (sorry, couldn't find a book cover in Goodreads...)

MadameZelda Finished Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews , fantastic! Now reading Covet the Moon (Power of the Moon, #2) by Tina Carreiro

message 2624: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) I'm holding off reading The Witch With No Name (The Hollows, #13) by Kim Harrison because as long as I haven't read it, it's not really over yet. But I'm also re-reading the last few books to get me 100% back in a Hollows mindspace before I get to the final book. I've finished with Pale Demon and am now into A Perfect Blood. I'm also going to her author signing in Houston on October 28th (joint signing with Ilona Andrews).

I'm enjoying them so far. They are quite different from the TV show (as you would expect). I have to occasionally either look up internet translaations when the French phrases are not translated for us, but those are few and minor inconveniences. Good so far.

message 2626: by Nicqui (new)

Nicqui | 35 comments Brilliant. I'll try to bump the first one up my to-read list.

Johnny | 6 comments Nicqui wrote: "Brilliant. I'll try to bump the first one up my to-read list."

The tv series is only based upon the books; they are quite different, but good imho. After all, some producer somewhere thought enough of them to make it into a long-running series. Enjoy.

That's a pretty good one. I think I want to keep reading in that series.

I'm onto a new series starting with The Resurrectionist by Sierra Woods . So far, it's pretty good. It's got that hardboiled detective vibe.

message 2629: by MadameZelda (new)

MadameZelda I am reading Book 4 of the Deadwood series which is in amazon, but not in goodreads, by Ann Charles, An Ex to Grind in Deadwood. Ghosts come to see the heroine who solves murders, etc.

message 2630: by Marianne (new)

Marianne Daemons Are Forever Daemons Are Forever (Secret Histories, #2) by Simon R. Green and I'm not liking hist style at all. I read the first book okay, and it was kind of charming, but this just feels amateurish. The funny thing is, his other series Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green is completely different in tone.

Also reading Beyond the Highland Mist Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning which I'm ALSO not liking very much. It's very different from her Fever series.

My niece, Jody Kessler, kindly gave sent me a copy of the second book in the series that began with Death Lies Between Us Death Lies Between Us (An Angel Falls, #1) by Jody A. Kessler which I'm reading, too. The second book is not quite out yet.

I have one of those on my Kindle. I keep meaning to read it. I've heard really good things about that author.

Davinia (davinianl) | 33 comments I just finished Dead Don't Lie by L.R. Nicolello And it was freakin' amazing. Read it with a box of tissues though.

But since that isn't actually uf I'll balance it out with Mark of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #1) by Diana Rowland which is a uf title and was a really good read too. Even though there is the 2 men and 1 heroine trap in there it didn't exactly read as a love-triangle. The romance isn't even that big a part of the story actually. But I liked it and will quite possibly read the next in the series, just not right after the last.

Now what to read next?

Tan (tannani) I am currently reading Eve (Eve, #1) by Anna Carey and am enjoying it so far.... next I got Perfected by Kate Jarvik Birch lying on my shelf waiting to be continued. Aaaand I am still struggling with finishing Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie . I read the first 100 pages quite fast but somehow I stopped. I guess I have to read the pages again to get what's going on. Okay - not really urban fantasy at all.
Just dystopian but I can't find a good fantasy book that i am interested in at the moment.
