MadameZelda I am reading Night Owl (The Night Owl Trilogy, #1) by M. Pierce by M. Pierce which is very smutty; and Sixth Grave on the Edge (Charley Davidson, #6) by Darynda Jones by Darynda Jones which is my kind of book and I'm enjoying that one.

Christine | 752 comments It's rare for me to NOT finish a book once I get past the first few chapters, but I just can't bring myself to read any more of Sixth Grave on the Edge (Charley Davidson, #6) by Darynda Jones . I really loved books 2 & 3 in this series, but the rest have been more annoying than enjoyable, so maybe it's time to part ways?

Once I set it aside, I picked up The Burning Bridge (Ranger's Apprentice, #2) by John Flanagan which I really liked and I've moved right along on to The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, #3) by John Flanagan . I'm trying to get my oldest son to read the first book in the series, because I think he'll like it too.

In audio, I've been on a roll with Cold Days (The Dresden Files, #14) by Jim Butcher Skin Game (The Dresden Files, #15) by Jim Butcher and Treachery in Death (In Death, #32) by J.D. Robb . No clue what to listen to next that can follow those three.

message 2553: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finally finished Clean (Mindspace Investigations, #1) by Alex Hughes . I've been working my way through the Vampire Academy series, have read Vampire Academy,Frostbite, and Shadow Kiss. Currently reading Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4) by Richelle Mead .

Christine | 752 comments I really enjoyed The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, #3) by John Flanagan , even though it felt like a transition book setting up for the next arc in the series. Now I'm just waiting for the library to get in the next in the series so I can finally see what happens. In the meantime, I'm finally in a Kitty mood so I'm enjoying Alien Research (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #8) by Gini Koch

In audio, I listened to Pooka in My Pantry (Monster Haven, #2) by R.L. Naquin and Tracking the Tempest (Jane True, #2) by Nicole Peeler but both left me unsatisfied and rolling my eyes at times. Now I'm listening to Croak (Croak, #1) by Gina Damico and so far it's much better than my previous two audio books. I've actually laughed at several of the jokes. Imagine that.

message 2558: by Christine (new)

Christine | 752 comments I cruised right through audio editions of Croak (Croak, #1) by Gina Damico , Scorch (Croak, #2) by Gina Damico , and Rogue (Croak, #3) by Gina Damico . I really enjoyed this series although the third one didn't hold quite the same charm as the first two. Maybe I needed to take a break before it?

I finally finished Alien Research (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #8) by Gini Koch and I'm surprised this one was more emotional toward the end than usual.

Next up in print is The Battle for Skandia (Ranger's Apprentice, #4) by John Flanagan . There's just something about this series that I am really enjoying.

In audio, I'm listening to and loving How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back (White Trash Zombie, #4) by Diana Rowland

Have you tried Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher or A Devil in the Details (Jesse James Dawson, #1) by K.A. Stewart ?
Or maybe Charming (Pax Arcana, #1) by Elliott James Those are the first series that pop to mind.

message 2566: by Christine (new)

Christine | 752 comments I finished listening to How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back (White Trash Zombie, #4) by Diana Rowland and loved it, despite where we left Angel. Now I'm listening to Monster Hunter Nemesis by Larry Correia . I do love Agent Franks.

message 2567: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished the Vampire Academy series which I thought was just so-so overall. The heroine annoyed me more often than not. Started in on the spin-off series, finished Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead and currently reading The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead . Liking Sydney much better. She has insecurities and isn't so full of her own hype.

I have Dresden on the list to start soon. It's the most commonly recc'd when I ask about similar books to Hearne's, so I'm excited to start those. The others I've never heard of so I'm curious.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Jesse James Dawson books are really good ones too, I second Christine on those.

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead and The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead . While I'm waiting to get my hands on the next book in that series, I read Mutineer (Kris Longknife, #1) by Mike Shepherd and Circle of Fire (Damask Circle, #1) by Keri Arthur (which was just so-so).

Just started Premonitions by Jamie Schultz last night, about 6-7 chapters in and liking it so far.

Also reading Rules of Murder (Drew Farthering Mystery #1) by Julianna Deering during my lunch hour.

Christine | 752 comments Monster Hunter Nemesis by Larry Correia was a ton of fun. I love Agent Franks, so I'm glad we learned more about him.

I finished reading The Sorcerer of the North (Ranger's Apprentice, #5) by John Flanagan which I also really enjoyed. This series is a pretty simple, straightforward read, but something about them really appeals to me.

Now I'm starting Geist (Book of the Order, #1) by Philippa Ballantine

I've been harassing my two oldest sons to read it, too. They are such easy reads and relatively short (to me) books, and I am so very tired of Big Nate and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

I think Big Nate is actually a comic strip from the news paper that has now moved into books. There are some original books that tell a single story and then some books that are just collections of the comic strips. My third grader loves Big Nate.

message 2590: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Premonitions by Jamie Schultz and really, really enjoyed it. You get alternating viewpoints in third person so that took some adjustment on my part since I'm so used to the first person narrative, but the story sucked me in pretty quickly. It's like a cross of Ocean's Eleven and Constantine, bit of a noir feeling to all of it. It has next to no romance so it's pretty straight up hard nosed UF. I'm looking forward to the next book.

message 2595: by Christine (new)

Christine | 752 comments Finished Geist (Book of the Order, #1) by Philippa Ballantine . It was a slow start, but it got better as it went along. I'm going to check out book two and hopes it fills in some gaps in the world building that book one didn't cover.

Up next, I think, is The Siege of Macindaw (Ranger's Apprentice, #6) by John Flanagan

message 2596: by Julia (new)

Julia | 615 comments Just finished Over My Head by Charles de Lint Over My Head (Wildlings) by Charles de Lint . It's very, very good-- but the best thing about de Lint novels and short stories is the characters are such good guys and gals that it makes you glad to be in their presence.

Then I read Landline by Rainbow Rowell , that I think everybody has heard of.

Now I'm about to start The Divide American Injustice in the Age of the Wealth Gap by Matt Taibbi , which is very different from what I usually read!
