Good! I didn't care for book two quite as much as #1, but #3 was excellent.

Must be pretty good to warrant a second read.

I just added Blades of Winter to my list, though they all look good despite being a little different from what I usually read.

I hope it is a good one for you. I am giving it up after 50 pages, there is just something about it that can't keep my attention.

Let me know what you think of The Daughter of the Sword. I really liked that one, sort of surprised me, I thought it might end up in my dnf pile.

Okay, thanks for the warning.

Guess I'll wait until I can find a used paperback. I like this series but not that much.

It seems like lately a lot of e-books are crazy spendy, often more than a HC.

I'm willing (not happy, but willing) to spend as much for the eBook version of a new book in a series I'm following as I would for the paper version. If it's something I bought pre-Kindle, I will pay the same price as the paper version of that book if I have to.
I'm not willing to spend more for an eBook than I would buying a paper book.

Book 5 in the series"
You have an early copy?! Lucky you!"
Really did get lucky - so far it's great fun (as always)

I am DYING with jealousy over here! Lucky duck!

It is. It's pretty mature writing for a YA series.

I was pretty surprised by some of the stuff in there as well! It's definitely YA, but edgier than most YA imho.

I just read that series last month and I LOVED it. It may be the best YA series I've read.

Yes, I agree with you Christine, I'm currently re-reading

I really like it. It's very fast-paced, lots of action. Reminds me of a modern dime novel. Steampunk & the American West go very well together, I think. :)
This series gets called YA (mostly the first book), but while I think it is very accessible for younger readers, it is not YA. In YA you don't have lead characters in their late 30s/40s.

I'm waiting for that book to come out in paperback too. I can only find it in hard back and it's just too expensive.

I keep wanting to read that because I loved Ender's Game. My son loved EG, but he hated Speaker for the dead.
I'm once again turning from UF/PNR to read

I'm with your son ... I loved Ender's Game ... and liked Ender's Shadow as well, though it was written much later, but in the same time frame and the same 'style'.
I got through Speaker for the Dead but didn't manage to finish the one after that. Just didn't care for where it went, actually, after Ender's Game.

I can see why a lot of people don't like Speaker for the Dead. It has a completely different tone for starters. And it's hard to tell it's a sci-fi work but for the occasional talk of space travel and some of their gadgets. At times, it becomes very philosophical, and at moments is almost downright preachy. Kind of the heavy-handed version of Ender's Game. It's neither "light-hearted" nor "fun". But I enjoy books like that when I'm in the right frame of mind, so I was able to appreciate what I think the author was trying to do with Speaker and I look forward to giving Xenocide a try. When I'm in the right frame of mind.
What I'm really excited about is the Ender's Game movie that's supposed to be out next year!! Ben Kingsley as Mazar Rackham and Harrison Ford as Colonel Graff!

Yes! I'm looking forward to that too. Although, I'm a little nervous, lol. I think it could either be amazing or terrible! And I would be so disappointed if it turns out bad. :(
