Love Stacia Kane & Molly Harper. On totally different ends of the paranormal spectrum, but both very good. I need to get caught up on Downside and read Harper's werewolves books.

It's so cool to be able to read two books that are so different in tone and texture and style and yet to love them both. The beauty of the written word.
I read one of Molly Harper's Werewolf books earlier this year and thought it was just okay. I'm glad I finally decided to try her Jane Jameson series.

Yeah, I flew through the last part of the book. Really hard to put down. Too bad the beginning was slow.

That's too bad. I agree that I wasn't hooked by the beginning (not like #2), but it got very good towards the end. But if it didn't grab you that far in, you might not have like the rest. Life's too short to waste on a book you don't like ;)
I'm heading away from UF and reading a Vietnam war novel that was recommended by a friend of mine.

Re: the earlier discussion on the power of other creatures and why they don't take over...If I recall the series correctly, the fae are explained MUCH more in the Alpha and Omega series than the Mercy Thompson ones. The werewolves get the bulk of attention in the Mercy ones and they care more about their own rules than simply human ones. I never got that the vamps were all that organized or prevalent, but that much of living "peacefully" was to keep humans from actively hunting them.
Interesting points everyone made!

Definitely. As far as I'm concerned anything involving blood and pain is NOT romantic!
Another series with a varied cast of characters that includes vampires that I've really liked is the two books by Stephany Simmons Voodoo Dues and Vampire Blues a good touch of humor and a nerdy vampire, complete with pocket protector!
They're both free downloads right now too.

You're going to love this 1! This is by far 1 of my fav series' too!

I didn't believe there was an author that could manage this, but the main character is a devout "Bible Belt" type Christian ...
... and I love this woman!

Hmmm...that may be worth a read for that very reason!

It was amusing to read some of the reviews, big variation in ratings. Some loved it, some hated it and some objected to including 'all' religions'.
Basic premise is pretty standard, yuppie married-with-children suburban housewife/soccer mom discovers she has *talents* for fighting demons. However, not-so-standard, is that her power comes from her belief in God through her Bible Belt/mainstream protestant religious background.
I've read some books with a traditional Christian background and have always had the feeling the book for the purpose of that religious belief being promoted/proselytized rather than the storyline simply incorporating that as a part of the character's mindset.
I think Ringo manages this to some extent by incorporating not just 'mainstream Christian' but many other religious beliefs and any number of other Gods, mainstream religion and mythological, as valid links to power for good deeds ... and the main character simply *lives* her religion, never preaches.
It's set up as a group of 'cases' within each book, as some mystery novels are, which works very well. Anyway, this is rapidly becoming a favorite series for me.

I loved it. I don't think I can pick of favorite book of the series, they're each special in their own way. What on earth will I do next month after I finish Chasing Magic????

Exactly! I don't want to be preached to. After reading your comments, I'm adding that book to my TBR!

I love surprises like that where the stereotype ... isn't and is someone you can like and feels like a friend --or at least someone you can admire and maybe understand!

There is something that takes place in this book that happens in one of Charlaine Harris’s more recent Sookie books. (view spoiler)
I wonder if Harris read Hannah’s Garden or if this is a coincidence!

About to start

I did a re-read of this series a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed it again. I have the spin off marked to read at least the first book but I don't know if I'm that interested since my fav characters were Dimika & Rose and Lissa & Christian. The spin off I think involes Adrian and the chemist I think. Well enjoy again.

About halfway through and just getting to the real action part. Main character is an immortal(?) paramedic with paranormal abilities who discovers he is the object of a vendetta. Different and addicting and pretty much a pageturner for me, even the first half, which is establishing background and characters. Great dialog and character development.

I'm curious how a whole book in Dani's head is going to be. My least favorite parts of books 4 and 5 were when she took over as narrator. I liked her enough as a character before that.

I just read Taken by Storm over the weekend. Incredible! I was completely blindsided by where she went with it.

Quite interesting so far."
I'm reading that one too, although its called Midnight Riot in the US. I like it too. Peter is different from a lot of the UF heroes I've read lately.

I'm about to start Iced and I'm both very excited and nervous at the same time, lol. So hope it's awesome!

That looks interesting!

@ Christine - The author has not put out when the next book is coming out which I hope there is. What you think? Yeah, I loved this series it was great.

I checked her website and she says that Raised by Wolves is a trilogy an Taken By Storm is the end, although she may someday revisit that world in other books. It kind of felt like it might be an end point to me, but it's still sad. I love her writing and her ability to completely surprise me with where she went with each book. I'll have to check out her other books. There is a new one coming out in January that sounds interesting:
