I hated book 3. Gutted me. Absolutely gutted me.

Plus, it made me *hate* Adam. Honestly, I don't know if I can come back from that. I never liked him much to begin with, and book #3 didn't help that. :P

Oh, I totally didn't mind Adam. I got where he was coming from and his confusion about handling it. I actually admired the way that part was written--how it took someone who had "been there" to clear things up. Because I think that situation is damned hard to deal with and there are no easy answers. But it was still very traumatic.

Really? I adore Adam. I don't recall him doing anything in book three that upset me, but then it has been a while since I read it.
I guess I felt that he (view spoiler)
Maybe I read the whole thing wrong. Honestly, that scene brought up so many dark emotions in me, it was hard to think straight. It won't stop me from continuing the series, though, but I needed a break after that one :P

That's pretty much what I got out of it too.

Lol. I was thinking the same thing! I need to re-read that. Since it's two against one, maybe I should give poor Adam another chance.

That is how I read it too.

LOL! I just adore Adam. He really does deserve another chance. One more series I really need to reread someday.

It wasn't a hard, long read. Murakami kept it interesting.

That *is* a good SK book. One of his earlier ones, but certainly a classic.

For sure, I think I read it every couple of years.

I *love* Briggs!!"
I'm just hoping I like it better than the first one, though the first book wasn't really bad.

I liked the second one better myself. I did like the first one quite a bit, though, so I may be biased. But I thought #2 started out much more intriguingly than the first one.

I looooved book one and two! I'm reading Briggs' Masques (audio) right now. It's pretty good. The intro said she rewrote/updated some parts when it was reprinted some 10 years after first publication. It takes place in Sainam (sp?) the same world as Steal the Dragon and When Demon's Walk. So far it's a good read. Audio always reads slow to me--I have a short attention span for listening--just ask my Mom! but the story is quite good. It's more YA than some of her others so far.

I think the first one was good but they get better with each book.

They do get better and better and the series continues.

Looks like a lot of people are reading Briggs. Maybe that should be the November BOM?

That's interesting. If you ever figure out what you don't like about the series, I'd be curious to know what it is.
I like the Mercy character a lot as well. If I had one complaint about the series, it would be that I have a hard time believing that the fae/vamps/weres are as strong as they are on the one hand, but at the same time seem to play by the humans' rules (This is more evident than ever in book #3).
It's the same complaint I had about the Sookie books. If the vamps/weres/etc. are so powerful, why on earth would they follow human rules?
Having said that, I still like both those series.

You know, that's an interesting question I've wondered about sometimes myself. In some series the authors make sure to give their supernaturals definite weaknesses and will make a point about how outnumbered they are by humans, so that it's understandable why they don't want to call attention to themselves. But other times, when you realize just how powerful these beings are, they why not try to take over the world? I guess "supernaturals are people, too"? While you always have a few power hungry maniacs, most just want to live their life in peace like the rest of us? I will say a lot of these supernaturals have a much better sense of honor than a lot of people I know.
But this was one of the (many, many) things that bothered me with the Twilight series. Her vampires had NO weakness other than werewolf claws and fangs, and there were only a handful of werewolves around. And most of her vampires had no love lost for humans. So I never understood why they didn't just take over the world and raise humans as cattle. That bugged me the whole time I was reading that series.

The 'powerful enough so why not take over the world' thing tends to bother me at times too and I think the lack of logic in that scenario ... and the often (to me) very distasteful relationships between human woman/vampire male ... tend to put me off most of the vampire books to start with.
SunshineI think handles it very well, one reason it is one of the few books on my re-read shelf with vampires ... 'good' vampire with a friendship, not romantic relationship with the human female and against the 'bad' world-takeover vampires.

Oh, I LOVED Sunshine!! I was thinking about offering it as a Nov. BOM suggestion. I don't think a lot of people have read it.
I also liked the worlds of
Dead Witch Walking and Unholy Ghosts because magic/magical creatures were so much more dangerous in those worlds.
I've never been a fan of the overly romantic vampire/human relationship. It kind of creeps me out.

This one took at least 100 pages to start getting good. It does get more exciting, but there's a big setup for it. Good luck!

I've heard so many great things about her Alpha and Omega series that's I'll be reading those, too. And I agree that book two was better than #1; although, I didn't care for #3 as much. That won't stop me from reading more in the series, though.
A book will never capture 100% of its audience. There are series that other people *love*, but leave me cold. I recently read Kate Daniels #1, and didn't care for it. Then again, I love Parasol Protectorate, and I have friends who didn't like it at all.
