Jenn | -13 comments I hope people are still reading Les Mis. I am a little behind since I just finished this section of reading today.
I was in complete horror as I read the section about Cosette and how she was treated by the Thenardiers. It was even worse than I thought from earlier glimpses in. The description of her little broken and sickly body made me cry. How anyone could be so heartless to a poor little girl is beyond my understanding. I was so happy when Jean Valjean was able to free her, even if he had to escape prison to do so. It is probably wrong, but I found myself cheering when he escaped. I am very interested to see what happens next to little Cosette and Jean Valjean.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments I'm into book 3 and Hugo has just given the physical description of the Thenardiers (Mr and Mrs). It's hilarious. They sound quite hideous in appearance and Mrs. Thenardier won't have maid servant because (TeeHee) she thinks her husband "an object of universal desire." HeHe

Christine | 971 comments I do enjoy Hugo's sense of humor!

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments Thank heavens JVJ has removed Cosette from the monstrous Thenardier's! What cruel people!

I don't know how JVJ didn't lose his mind when he thought that he was giving money to that indigent man who sits in the town square and saw Javert instead.

siriusedward (elenaraphael) | 2005 comments Reading book 3.Just started reading about Thenardiers and Cosette... their descrpition is funny yet rather horrible... to think of such Hypocrisy and cunning man in charge if Cosette and driving Fantine to desperation makes me mad.I want to shake him or beat him fir driving her to her death....

siriusedward (elenaraphael) | 2005 comments The escape was really hairy and miraculous.divine intervention indeed.
And I am glad Javert was showed up.His self-righteousness, rigidity, lack of compassion, ambition, attempt at glory and fame , aĺl resulted in Jean Valjeans escape.
Whereas Jean Valjeans compassion and generosity led him to be brought under the notice of Javert.
Beggar who gives alms.
I must say he was mighty careless with his disguis and his money considering he was an escaped convict.
