SOLVED. YA series where a guy named Kyle dies [s]

I read these books in high school. There were at least 3, maybe more. They were sad, esp. when the girl's boyfriend named Kyle dies. There was a prom or HS dance in the book where he dies (I think).

Just in case this is it, when I was searching for the SVH prom title, I kept coming across Night of the Prom from the Senior Year series. But Kyle's still alive in the last (4th) book of the series...

THANK YOU! Seriously, I'm like screaming it at my computer. I've been trying to remember these forever! My sister kept telling me they were by Caroline B. Cooney, so I went through all her books about ten times, then googled "YA books with characters named Kyle." And you can imagine how that turned out.
