i am going to take your advise and read Clockwork Angel first.I loved the first three books of Mortal instruments. The wait for the next book of mortal instruments (after City of fallen angels) will kill me.Cassandra Clare is such a great writer!

I felt the same way. I finished City of Glass in November, and when I found out City of Fallen Angels was coming out 7 months later in May this year, the release date felt like an eternity away. It was nice to know I could read another one of Clare's works while I waited. Although, when I finished Clockwork Angel, I felt the same way because from then, I have to wait 9 months to read Clockwork Prince in December. Waiting sucks, doesn't it?

Now, i'm reading the second book of night huntress and the age of innocence.I start reading the age of innocence cause the plot was interesting and i like to imagine how past societies lived. When i was reading the book i came across with the idea that the role of a women was to get married and not anything else.
i will start reading Clockwork Angel, when i finished this two books.

I feel the same way.
LOVE THIS BOOK!! ! Jem Carstairs is quite possibly the best one in the series. I love Will's sense of humor, and how he helps Jem like a brother would. I just freaking love all of Cassandra Clare's books. She is like a genius when it comes to grabbing out attention, and our hearts with the books that she writes.

How could anyone not love her characters? I love Clare's writing.

She seriously makes me want to live in that world! I wish that our world was seriously like her novels...
You that cat Jem finds that he names Church? Do you think that's the same cat the lives in the New York institute present day with Jace? That would be so weird.
When I read it I seriously thought that it was present day Church. I hope that it is because that would be super nifty!

And once I read it, I'll come back here to let you know what I thought.

I think it's good your giving it try so you can see for yourself.

I ordered the available 'Mortal Instruments' books too, I just love her style and I have to have something to tie over the wait for 'Clockwork Prince'.
There was hardly a dull moment in the book and once finished, I hated leaving the world. I *still* miss tessa, Will, Jem and the others. :(

It's one and the same cat. Cassie wrote that on her website under FAQ.

I'm with you on that. I just keep thinking about what Will could possibly have to say to Magnus. I hope it's about Tessa.

That's so creepy. I hope we find out what's up with that cat.

Ooh I know, I *hated* the ending! (Meaning the suspense is killing me!) I wanna know Tessa's deal, and Wills deal, and I want them to be together. I dread Will and Magnus will share some evil secret or plan involving Tessa :S

When I first heard it was set in the same world as the Mortal Instruments, I was a bit worried it would be too similar to it so I wouldn't try reading the book right away.
However, at some time I didn't have anything better to do and decided to give it a try.
And i cursed myself for not picking it up as soon as it was out.
Not only Cassandra Clare was able to create a brand new, interesting plot, also the setting in the eighteenth century kept me glued to the book.
I personally liked Tessa's character more that Clary.
Some people say they didn't like Tessa's way of thinking and for that lowered their rating of the book.
I didn't get the reason for that.
First of all, you can't dislike a book only because a character doesn't behave like you want him/her to.
All the author does is try to make it real, and nobody's perfect.
Plus, Tessa's point of view was clearly different from our because Cassandra Clare adapted it to the way of thinking of the century the story is set in.
I found it totally realistic and well-structured.
Tessa is strong, clever, and isn't afraid of asking what she doesn't know.
Unlike Clary, when she knows she's not able to stand a fight she just stays out of it.
That's one of the things I like most about her.
In most books, you found the female main character who always wants to fight, whether she can or not, not caring about the fact that her lack of skills other than not helping at all, could also endager the others.
Tessa understands that and for this reason stays out of fight.
She's also ready to face dangerous situation, like entering De Quincey's house, for the sake of the others.
What to say, I really liked her.
Will, on the other hand, is really mysterious.
At first I was like "Ugh, another Jace".
Well, I was wrong.
Cassandra Clare was again able to surprise me, creating, with the new series, a new kind of male character that would interest us.
Will is so not like Jace.
While Jace was always acting cool, his act was meant not to show how a little puppet he was inside. [hah]
On the other hand, Will's behaviour is clearly dictated by something happened in his past, that we'll probably find out in the next books.
His snarky humor, his indifference, they're all meant to make him look strong and bold in front of the others.
Except Tessa.
She's the only one that tries to understand Will better. Only he doesn't want her to.
I'm waiting for him to let his walls finally come down, and not for just a few minutes.
I think I may have liked the Clockwork Angel even more than The Mortal Instruments, but I still have to see where his trilogy will take us.
I'm certainly eager for more.
Can't wait till the Clockwork Prince!

I see this book basically the same way. Will is such a mystery. I can't figure him out. I can't wait to learn more about him in Clockwork Prince.

Its like we share the same mind ha

I'm in your same boat, but I just finished the book recently and really enjoyed it. It didnt have the same romantic intensity as with TMI which I felt would have made this book perfect!
I really liked the book and cant wait for CWP!!!!

I'm aching to know what Will's past is. I'm so curious...
For Stevie (view spoiler)

TMI popped more for me. and clockwork angel was kinda a let-down.
in TID, i didn't like the guy (will) although i loove jem <3. i also dont like the bad guy side. theyre boring. but i like tessa. she has spark. shes courageous and can face death, seemingly dauntlessly. i dont like many of the characters actually.
i like henry, tessa, and jem...i think thats it. oh , and how could i leave out magnus?! i love him too ;)

I'm with you there! I like Jem more than Will. No, wait, I don't like him. I love him. He's so sweet and he's such a gentleman! <3
I'll feel sorry for Tessa if she doesn't notice that!

This was my first steampunk book. I didn't really want to start this series because I thought I would find the steampunk genre boring, but I was pleasantly surprised with Clockwork Angel.

After reading the clockwork angel I tried another book with a steampunk feel.

Believe me it was gorgeous as well. :D

i love jem as well.
and though there are clear similarities between will and jace, i actually loved jace ( i mean before he got possessed or whatever...CoFA out of the picture i mean )unlike will. i never really liked will. and will at the end of clockwork angel just totally pissed me off. >:(
jace was snarky, sarcastic, arrogant, hot...will is just lacking.

i thought it was ok but nothing compared to

notice how i left out city of fallen angels...?
actually that too, i think was better than CA. maybe its because i just like TMI better, and probably still will.

I get that. But I love Will, he's a lost case you just wanna try fix. And I love Jace, posessed and not. Come on, it's not his fault.
And I read DSCS (Dirty Sexy Club Scene) from CoLS, anyone else read that?

agreed! i didnt excpect infernal devices to be as good as it was at all. so glad i read it! cant wait for clockwork prince! :D

December is so near!! They said it would explain more about why Will was like that so I am excited.

I did. I love Jace and Clary together in that. I wish it got that dirty in the books, but Cassie said this was a little too dirty to print. I can't wait for COLS.
I agree with Lisa. Jace and Will are so similiar, and I love them both. I love Jace more though. I just feel Will doesn't have a reason to act the way he does because I don't know his backstory. If I just knew what happened in his past with his parents, I think I might understand him more.

Joss wrote: "I'm a newcomer to this group and would like your expert (!) advice. I was about to read City of Bones but then saw this prequel. Does it matter which order you read them in?"
I think it would be better to read this book after city of glass (the 3rd book) because i feel it was just written for people who have read and enjoyed the first three books of TMI and have that knowledge of the characters.

If you're have doubts about this book, don't worry. It is actually a good book. Before I read this book, I was worried Clare would focus so much on the authenticity of the setting and place in time of the book that it wouldn't seem anything like the Mortal Instruments, but I was lucky proven wrong.
This book has rumor and romance, and you can clearly find Cassandra Clare's spirit in this book as much as you can in the Mortal Instruments. I found so many similarities between Jace and Will. It was uncanny. The other characters though are noticeably different from TMI.
My favorite part is when Tessa came to the vampire party and Magnus was there helping out Will and Tessa. It was like I was seeing another side of Magnus.
Jem is probably my favorite character. He's so sweet. I just hope Tessa doesn't break his heart.
Clare worked hard to make sure that the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices don't give away too much about the other. So know one needs to worry about spoilers, but some characters in this book are mentioned in City of Fallen Angels so I think it is appropriate to read Clockwork Angel between City of Glass and City of Fallen Angels.
