Stephen (havan) | 548 comments Just wanted to mentioned that I've just finished re-reading The Milkman's On His Way The Milkman's On His Way by David Rees by David Rees

Originally published in 1982, it's held up well and doesn't feel very dated at all. The story deals with Ewan Macrae a young british lad from Bude who's into surfing and sunbathing and is starting to realize that he's not as into girls as his mates. At 118 pages its a quick read and it's available via Amazon used for $.01 plus shipping. It might be worth checking out.

Doug Beatty | 432 comments I am still reading The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler. It is really good.. it was written by two people, and is Swedish. It is long, 500 pages, but moves quickly once you get into it. There seem to be a lot of threads moving in different directions that hopefully get tied up, but it does get you going. The only disconcerting thing is that around page 300 it goes into a flashback story, written in the first person, when the rest of the book was in the third person. Not a big deal but it was a big of a jump getting used to it. I think they should have established this flashback style early in the book and maybe done alternating chapters in first, then third, instead of moving along and all of a sudden a big change. It seemed odd. But I am past that part now, and storming on to the ending.

I just ordered Improvise.: Scene from the Inside Out on Amazon, about creating improvisational scenes.

I really want to read Harrowing Hats and Skirting the Grave. I really hope you guys like me, because it NEVER seems like I read anything gay.. but I am always reading. But I DO read what I like, so that counts, right?

I just finished The Magician King by [Lev Grossman] and started The Dark Beyond the Stars by Frank M. Robinson. Next up is Gaiman's Neverwhere and then I think I'll tackle The Stand. I've never read anything by Stephen King.

Doug Beatty | 432 comments Did you like the Magician King? I am liking it.. I am listening to the cd in my car. I am over halfway through. I like the parts about Julia the best, the quest parts seem a little disjointed but overall, it seems pretty good.

Yeh I did. Julia is interesting esp in contrast to the Brakebill's grads, reflecting our own educational system. The quest and Julia come together sort of, 'nuff said. I decided the series was satirical of the fantasy genre.

(as aside: I misspelled "satirical" and using my browser dictionary discovered an interesting homonym which could prove useful: "satyrical" )
