As an fyi - this book is available at my local library as an Adobe EPUB. I would recommend that people check their local libraries for books they can borrow as downloadable material. It works great, is free, is legal, and more and more libraries are expanding their digital offerings. :-)

I read this when it first came out, and after all of the press and places I was seeing it & hearing about it I really expected much more.Its classified as Teen literature, so I understand the lack of character development and such, but then there is so much bad language. I cant really suggest it as a good read for adults or teens....
It wasn't horrible, I finished the book and enjoyed the characters. I just expected...more
My review: This was a quick, fun read once I got past the slow start...but then it ended and it became apparent that it is intended to be the start of a series. Thanks for the warning, book synopsis. It doesn't end on a true cliffhanger, but it's obvious that the fellowship will be embarking on further adventures.
It's a somewhat original and interesting premise, even if parts are left unexplained; I suppose the author is saving the answers for future books. As main characters, Jacob and Emma are likeable, if not that "peculiar." There are several things I really liked about the story, but I can't delve into those without spoilers. I'm much better at reviewing books I dislike...
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children seems much more YA than I expected; since, I didn't expect that at all. I am undecided on whether that's a bad thing, but I don't forsee any graphic sex, cursing or drug use.
Overall, I think this is an okay book with a great and interesting title, which seems to promise much more than is delivered.
I finished reading today and I agree with everything Teresa said; I was expecting more than was delivered. I do think that the photos added a lot to the story and wish they displayed better on the Nook; I will have to open the book on my computer to get a better look at the pictures.Barnes & Noble is having Ransom Riggs answering questions today and tomorrow here.
I am only at the part where Jacob meets Miss Peregrine and now he knows a little more about his grandfather.
I'm right there with you, Sally. I am really enjoying this book so far. I love time travel stories and had no idea that this would contain that element. I can't wait to continue on with the story!

I finished this book yesterday. I thought it was pretty good. It offered a lot - time travel, paranormal, mystery. I'm curious to see where it will lead, it ended as though there would be more!
I agree! I definitely got the impression that there would be a sequel.
i read this one recently and enjoyed it very much. having the pictures made it much better!
I thought this was a great read! The story was good, and I loved the real antique photos that were included. They really added to the story in an effective way.
I just purchased this on my Nook. I'll get to reading it soon I hope! I'm looking forward to it :)

I love looking at my family's really old photo collection and I can see how pictures like those can come about. In the act of processing them film you can change and distort an image, and then all of the tricks that you can set up using different lenses and optical illusions....
The author says he was collecting the pictures for a long time before he decided to write the book, so I definitely believe it. Its not like he said they were pictures from his family history. If you go looking for interesting antique photos, you're sure to find all kinds!

On a side note, although I like getting free books as much as the next person, let's not use this thread to offer free copies of this month's book.
One of our members alerted me to this discussion in the Goodreads Librarian group: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5... and the issue of copyright violation.
Another alerted me to this discussion http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5... warning that dropbox, which is often used as a sharing source for epubs, is now making note of those who are illegally sharing copies of books.
And others have now written to me asking that I delete their threads from the epub sharing discussion section, not wanting to risk prosecution.
In addition to the liability issues, there are also the ethical issues of preventing authors from getting compensation for their hard work.
With all that said, I'm asking that we NOT use this thread for illegal sharings, and this month's selection does NOT appear to have the B& N option of one time lending.
