Melissa Foster (melissa_foster) | 2 comments Hello all. I thought I'd share this new promotional opportunity for you to market your books. We have a targeted female audience of readers:-)

Many thanks for allowing me to share this opportunity with you.

I'm a GoodReads author (Megan's Way was my debut), and I'm the founder of the Women's Nest, a free social and support site for women which, amongst other things, hosts a book club.

On the Women's Nest we work very hard to promote others, and with the fast changing publishing industry, we're now offering a special sponsor advertising rate to authors of only $20 for 15 days. The 15 days will run from the 1-15 of the month or 16-30 of the month.

We are only accepting THREE advertising spots each day, and this is what is being offered for the $20 (all are included):

DISPLAY AD: A picture of your book cover that links to your book on Amazon on our homepage, as well as on every forum page we have (hundreds of pages). We will utilize our Amazon affiliate link. Advertisements will be the first three images in the right column on the homepage and the forum pages.

FULL PAGE: A separate page dedicated to your book that will remain active for at least one month. The page will including a description and an Amazon link, as well as a link to your website, Facebook, and Twitter pages (if you provide them). You may also provide reviews for this page. All information for
this page, with the exception of the Amazon link, must be provided by the author.

FACEBOOK/TWITTER EXPOSURE: When your book is advertised, it will also be announced on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

We expect to begin posting ads March 16, 2011.

If interested, please contact Melissa Foster:
thinkhappygirl(at)yahoo(dot)com

We accept payment by Paypal.

Many thanks, and write on, my friends!

I thought I'd add my new, revamped website and ask a question. On the site, I say to click on 'PRODUCTS' for a full description & link to store. Is it assumed everyone would know to click on the link? Is it tacky to request they do that?

Matt I'm a fan of Annie Laurie Cechini's site: annielauriecechini.com. Partially, I suppose, because I am her webmaster. But I think it does a great job of presenting her as an author and her work.

Jayne (ladyjaguar) | 7 comments Hi everyone

I've had a look at a few websites and on the whole, they all look so much sexier than mine! Is it a case of you get what you pay for? I'm just starting out as an Indie and don't have the luxury of paying for a fancy site, but if you want to have a look and comment, please do!

http://www.jaynelockwood.com/

message 391: by Jock (new)

Jock Brocas | 9 comments The issue with sexy websites is entirely down to perception. A sexy website may not serve you well because it gets no where in the search engines r entices anyone to buy your books, yet a poor looking website could do better because of optimization. Now it is rather like buying at a thrift store. You can get deals but ultimately you get what you pay for in terms of quality and value. A good balance of design, optimization, social media will set you up very well.

message 393: by Jayne (new)

Jayne (ladyjaguar) | 7 comments I wouldn't know! Thanks for the advice. There is only so much money an author has at their disposal and I actually like my website because people know what they are getting, rather than something that tries to be too clever. I think I was falling into the trap of panicking about what I "should" be doing instead of getting on with it, which is writing!

Hi Keith

I have just looked at your website and on the whole, I liked it. It was easy to navigate, friendly and informative, and I loved the layout with the scroll menu and the simple but effective photograph behind it.

My only comment would be that for the genres you are writing in (romance, fantasy, fairy tales) the colour scheme seems too stark. I appreciate that as a man you won't want a site with pink flowers and sparkles, but the monochrome colours seem rather sombre. The red you use doesn't stand out much, which is a shame. Something a tad brighter would be easier on the eye.

These are just my immediate impressions as I saw the site. I hope this helps...

Jayne

PS. Just went back and saw your gallery page. Love it! It has so much impact, it should be on the home page!

message 397: by Keith (new)

Keith Hoare (raggedcover) Thank you, Jayne, for your comments. I suppose mute colours are a man thing. However, I’ve altered the background, the red words and added different photos for the fairies and romance. It’s going to be a lot more difficult to move the gallery to the first page, but I’m not rejecting it, I’m looking at your suggestion.

With so many books it’s really difficult to make one more important than others. Although ‘The Royal Grandchild’ is the most recent. That is why I placed it on the front page.

If you care to look at the improvements, you may need to reload the pages, as computers remember where you’ve been, so you may see no difference.

I love the new colours. They have a lot more impact and are far more vibrant and interesting. I love the photos too. Catwalk Supermodel looks intriguing and I'll give it a go, as it has obviously been a labour of love. I hope you get feedback from others as well, but I think it looks great. :)
