Fiza I once got a book that was marked $18 for shipping....which was more expensive than the book itself. Felt really bad for the author :(

message 802: by melissa (new)

melissa (msporry) Hey you all! I was wondering if there are people here that are from Finland? I'm from the Netherlands but I'll be living there as an exchange student in the fall...

Cheryl (Gwyneiira's Book Blog) (gwyneiira) | 10 comments @Fiza & Juna: Mmm, the approx is $35 from USA to Singapore. And that is for 1 book. The charges increases by weight as well... I am planning to wait for certain books to be published before buying everything in a bulk :D The things we do for books....

message 804: by Fiza (new)

Fiza Wow that's ridiculous Cheryl o.O I'm afraid to ask but how much are you lighter after a shopping spree?

message 805: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (Gwyneiira's Book Blog) (gwyneiira) | 10 comments I have not bought and shipped anything in from USA yet. I am expecting to come up to about 150-200 if I do buy anything. On book shopping days...I'll probably spend about $50 at a book convention or sale.

I try to curb the urges. But I swear the books are crying out to me to bring them home...There's just something about owning the paperback, the ebook isn't enough.

BUT THE THING IS, I DON'T OWN ANY NA BOOKS ON MY BOOKSHELF (I only just got into NA & Erotica last dec). And I desperately want to get some in there...woes of a bookworm...

Ugh that so sucks! I can't even imagine, I'm sorry :(
Gotta take advantage of those book conventions and sales! I'm going to a book convention next month & volunteering at Scholastic Warehouse Book Sale so YAY for more books hahaaa

I also agree to the paperback or even owning a hardcover. Having the solid book in your hands is SO much better. Which I usually do is get the ebook and if I really really enjoyed it then I'll buy a physical copy.

message 807: by Fiza (new)

Fiza lol I know the feeling. Books are crying out and I cry right back at them: noo I can't get you

We have some sales and conventions here, but most don't have YA or NA either. Should have seen me when I finally did find one.

Prefer paperback (or hardcover) too. Ebooks are handy and no shipping costs applies to them. But nothing beats having a real book in your hands or on your shelves.

message 808: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (Gwyneiira's Book Blog) (gwyneiira) | 10 comments @juna & Fiza , that's awesome! I tend to go crazy at book conventions and sales. I buy about 10 books that looks interesting and end up using them to decorate my bookshelf. Same goes with ebooks.....I 1-click too much and ends up not knowing what to read.

I think the worst thing is having to pick a book or two to put back so as to not go over your budget when you find them all interesting.....

Mine has a handful of YA but mainly young fiction. I think there are NA books around but the covers don't really draw me. It's sad to say I do judge books by their covers since they are the first things to attract.

message 810: by Fiza (new)

Fiza @Cheryl it's a blessing and a curse. Most of the impulse purchases will be forgotten but sometimes you find a real good one. But we never have to fear running out of reading material ;)

Don't worry, I pick up my books by cover too. It needs to draw me in, else I'll leave it. Sometimes I make an exception when the blurb sounds good. But preferably it needs to be a combination of both^^
