Book Trailers (tm) - An Introduction
Thank you Sharon! I actually did use Windows Movie Maker - My BS degree is actually in communications - TV and Radio Production so this is fun for me - especially after being out of it for so long. Nice to get back in the groove - even with a rudimentary system like Windows Movie Maker. :) I posted the trailer to my site here - so check it out and let me know what you think!
I'm still trying to figure out Goodreads too - how to utilize it to the fullest extent.
It's nice to meet everyone and just wander around and look at all the nice shiny trailers and covers - yes, shiny things distract me.
Have a great weekend all!

I've been steadily tinkering away at my book video and finally came up with this latest version. I sure had a blast making it. Hope you guys like it. http://www.goodreads.com/videos/show/...
Hi all -I've posted a couple video trailers to my goodreads page here : http://www.goodreads.com/videos/list_...And I'd love to hear what you folks think!
Thanks.

I just posted my own trailer/video for my book, Take the Monkeys and Run on You Tube.
What I'm wondering is, what are other authors doing do utilize these trailers for promotion other than posting them on their own websites? What are other ways of getting them "out there" for viewing?
Karen, there are many other places that post book videos. I've done some research, but I find there are most are questionable, cost, or I feel my would get lost among the masses.
At least with YouTube, you can have your own channel and limit the number.

I have a question about where to post trailers. My trailer should be all ready to go next week, but I'm not entirely sure how to get the best use out of it. Aside from the obvious, YouTube, my website, and here on goodreads, are there sites out there that are specifically for featuring book videos the way there are for movie trailers? I would love to hear how some of you have had success in generating hits on your videos because as a debut author I don't yet have a fan base that is waiting to see what I post next.
I thought a book trailer would be a great promotion idea, especially since my target audience surfs YouTube a lot. So I decided to make my own.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PRAEh...
I compiled my own images, the book cover, some text, and some royalty free and copyright free music to create a slide-show/moving comic book-like video.
Let me know what you think!

Nice graphics although for me the sudden music was too loud and distracting. Perhaps an age thing. :) It was also short on substance about the story.
My husband, daughter and I did my trailer. My husband used to work in the animation business although my daughter did the artwork. I posted a link in an earlier comment if you want to take a look for substance ideas.

(Maybe I'll turn down the music a little bit.)
Your trailer is really cool! I think I'll have to check out that book now. :)
Thanks, Kirstin. :)
You did a good job for your first attempt. Graphics aren't easy. Keep it up!

Loved your book trailer. I don't usually read historicals, but your trailer has me adding it to my to-read list.
My first attempt is posted at You Tube as "Holden Caulfield, Where are You?" for my third novel CATCHER, CAUGHT, one of four Shelfari recommendations in their March newsletter AND # 1 on Amazon.com for 6 weeks under Death & Dying/Teens. Making the trailer was fun, but I think shorter is better (after reading here and watching some of the others mentioned). Thanks for the discussion.
Wow! There are some wonderful book trailers here!:)

Hi everyone! I'm so excited! I just released a brand new version of my Young Adult Paranormal, The Betrayal and wanted to share my new book trailer with you. I know I haven't been here in awhile but I'm going to try my best to be here more often. Hope you enjoy!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXmUFg...
I very seriously doubt that a proprietary "ownership" of the term "book trailers" would stand up in court. If Kleenex and Aspirin can lose their control of original names because of common usage, this one is super-doomed.
They might want to claim it, but it's absurd.
bookriot.com has a nice book trailer section. Most of the publishers who use them have their own youtube branded channel, so for example, if you look up Doubleday on youtube, there are a whole bunch to view. You can also go to our site, red14films.com and see the trailers we have posted.
Hi, I am new to this group, happy to have found it. I am a "seasoned" designer, and am excited to have completed a recent project for a client, who has completed her first novel. I have designed her book jacket, created her book video, and am working on her website. Take a look at the trailer & let me know how I'm doing - this new media project was a learning experience for me & so much fun to create! If you like what you see, please feel free to contact me through my website www.buffalocreativegroup.com
Thanks so much, Leslie Taylor, Buffalo Creative Group

It's good to join this group. I have made my own book trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtmtrP...Enjoyed it so much I have started doing them for other people with my daughter who has just finished a film studies degree. Not sure how to get started though. Unless you have a reputation built up first. Will people trust you.

Hi – I enjoy reading all genres of books including historical, sci-fi, self-discovery, biographies, dramas, romance and many others. I don't have a book trailer yet but I am interested in creating one. “All Writers Get Published!” on my book blog at http://justthinkingjustsaying.blogspo... is interesting.

To actually do the trailers, I used Windows Movie Maker, which came with my computer. But you might also try One True Media. They've got great special effects.
