Melvyn (melvyn_melcom) | 7 comments Well I've now finished White Fang, and can see why it tends to polarise opinions. I have to say that I greatly enjoyed it - but perhaps it's important to remember the time and society in which it was written.
It's an interesting way to show what might be animal thinking without pretending that they are just underdeveloped humans. I found it convincing enough in terms of the book, and I also enjoyed the writing style itself.

There has been so much time passed and so much happened, that with the likes of David Attenborough I think that in general we know better than Jack London about how animals live and act in the wild. I found myself alternating between being bored (seen/heard it all before) and being annoyed at the thoughts and beliefs being put into the animals heads.

Will Granger | 15 comments I can't believe I never read this. The Call of the Wild is my all-time favorite book. I will start reading White Fang today.
