The new Selangor state library is now open to public
What's new at PPAS?
Well, apart from the building, the library service is now expanded to 6 floors (and 7, soon - which the 6th one I'll explain later).
Ground Floor
On the ground floor, upon entering the library building, remember to get (on loan only) a drawstring bag, which is used to store your shoes, from the security/information counter. Yes, it's a shoes-off public library, particularly the carpeted area.
Why do we practice shoes-off policy? Consider this library as your second home (which happens to be our tagline), where your kids are free to lie down and 'golek-golek' on the floor and the sofa.
Now, back to the library service. On your left is the children's area. There is a huge tree there, with colorful stools of various shapes scattered around it, tables and chairs for parents (for kids, too, of course), and several other surprises. I won't spoil it for you here, so go discover the children's area yourself, will ya?
The right wing of the ground floor (children's library is on the left wing) is where 3D theater and 6D theater (or XD theater, as I like to call it) are housed, among other things, just to name a few.
Musolla is made available at every floor, so worry no more. And because you already take your shoes off, we do provide slippers for the washroom.

First Floor
This floor is for teenagers (edited to add: from this floor upwards, library service is on the right wing only - left wing is for office). At the previous state library building, we didn't have a dedicated area for teens collection. So now we do, and if you find the shelves are half empty, that is because the collection is currently being developed.
Again there is a computers area for public, like a cyber cafe with open concept. There are 5 iMacs and 9 Windows-based PCs at every floor. All these computers are brand new, and trust me, they are far more superior than the computers for staff. For the time being, usage is free - as promotion (except printing). In the near future, we'll charge RM1 per hour per computer usage.
What if you bring your own laptop? We'll charge RM1 per laptop per entry, but wifi access is free. Currently the laptop charge is waived - also part of the promotion.

Second Floor and Third Floor
Welcome to the adults area! Underage children are not allowed entry here, but since the children's library at the ground floor is designed to captivate the children, I'm sure they wouldn't mind you slipping off to this floor.
Like I stated earlier, cyber cafe is available at every floor. To use the computers at 1st and Ground Floor, head out to the counter atChildren's library at the Ground Floor. To use the computers at 2nd floor, the counter is right there. And to use the computers at 3rd and 4th floor, go to the 3rd floor counter. Each cyber cafe staff will activate the computer that you want to use.
Now, let's march onwards to the 4th floor, shall we?
Fourth Floor
Reference area, this is what this floor is for. Do I need to elaborate? Only if you ask.

So, where is the 6th floor? We have covered ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor, and 4th floor. That's 5. I skip the 6th one, which is actually the lower ground floor, because the infrastructures there are yet to be complete.
The lower ground floor is where the main surau is, as well as gymnasium and a bookshop. The main surau is open, but the gym and the bookshop are not. The LG-floor gymnasium will be open to public when it's ready.
Oh, I forgot to mention that there are 2 other smaller gymnasiums - one for female and one for male. Which one at which floor? I can't recall - because none of them is open yet.
The lower ground floor, in the initial plan, is where our canteen is supposed to be. But since the Sultan requests that we have a separate and bigger cafe, which is currently being developed - outside the library building - near the lake, I'm afraid we don't have any canteen or cafe to offer you. But since we are entering the fasting month, I'm pretty sure this one is not so important right now, right?
For non-muslims, unfortunately, if you need to get something to eat, you have to go out to business quay nearby. Not inside the library area, but outside - at Seksyen 13, the Giant hypermarket, or Tesco Extra.
So, that's all for our tour de bibliotheque. If you have any question, I'll do my best to answer it.

For the time being, as promotion, yes. I'm not sure when we'll impose no-camera policy, though. So, enjoy it while it lasts.

By the way, I forgot to mention here (maybe I already told y'all before), PPAS membership is free. However, if you'd like to upgrade your membership so that you can also borrow audio visual materials, that'll be RM 20 per annum.
Setelah masuk ke gerbang KGSAAS, watch out for the next junction (simpang tiga). Jumpa sahaja junction tu, belok kanan, dan jumpa bulatan. Take the second exit, go straight. At almost the end of the road, you'll see the library on your left and the golf club on your right.
During Ramadhan, the library will be closed at 5 pm every day, including weekends. The opening hours will remain the same.

Kalau berminatlah, tapi bulan Ramadan kurang sambutan kot?
Faizah, memang ramai yg dah bertanya ;-)

there was a small gym next to cyber cafe at 3rd flr ...the view here is the best (the same concept apply in KL LIBRARY , where you get a lake view with a shah alam city and masjid ssaas as a main backdrop .+ a designer furniture in which every detailing is like what ikea look likes.
its unfortunate when the east (open air indoor garden is not open yet ) .there is a garden provided in each floor fronting the east side / because the alignment of qiblat is just parallel to east west directions .
trully , its the best after kl library . so urban + chic until somehow im just thinking been sent over to Europe.

Correction, Kast. There is a small gym at the 3rd floor, not was.

If I bring my children here I have to first teach my 5 yr old son what a library is. He may think it's a bookshop and will refuse to return the books he (potentially) will borrow.
Khairul, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to do so!
By the way, Kataklicik and all, I can't guarantee that all the free-of-charge services (such as XD theatre, computer usage, laptop charge) will remain so until Raya.
There is a perfect spot for a small party at the lower ground floor, near the main surau. The place that was originally planned as cafe, has a nice view, i.e. the lake. If we all agree to have Raya gathering, let's really plan for it.

Nana, do you know that Sabah Public Library has used OverDrive as platform for ebook borrowing? Any plan by PPAS to expand into ebooks?
Najibah wrote: "Nana, do you know that Sabah Public Library has used OverDrive as platform for ebook borrowing? Any plan by PPAS to expand into ebooks?"
Our director already asked us to look into this matter, of the possibility of bringing in ebooks to the library somewhere in the future. Right now, not yet lah Najibah. Audiobooks pun kita tak ada lagi. The reason being is, perpustakaan Sabah (as comparison, since you mention it) tak punya perpustakaan desa, pekan, cawangan, dan daerah sebanyak PPAS. And each of its smaller libraries is located far from one another. In Selangor, we have close to 100 libraries altogether under PPAS. So, I'm sure you understand how many copies we have to buy for each title.
And personally, in my honest opinion, if people can afford to buy e-reader or use a tablet as e-reader, then they definitely can afford to purchase ebooks themselves. Better enrich the rural libraries with dead tree books, where not many people can afford to buy them.

Wow that is quite a number to maintain. Far exceeds the number of PD and Branches in Kelantan, I think. How many copies of each title PPAS usually buy each time, I wonder.
Depends. Biasanya utk perpustakaan negeri, fiksyen 2-3 naskhah. But if it comes in series, satu sahaja. Bukan fiksyen 2 naskhah, kadang-kadang 3 naskhah. Lain-lain perpustakaan, senaskah setiap judul.
Kenderaan awam belum masuk lagi. Kami sedang cuba dapatkan coaster.
Rakan pencinta buku sekalian,
Apa kata kita buat satu perjumpaan semasa bulan Ramadhan ni di perpustakaan Selangor yang baru? Kita jumpa pagi, semua masih segar-bugar lagi. Apatah lagi kalau nak cuba teater XD tu, kuranglah sikit panjang barisan yang beratur.
Saya cadangkan minggu ketiga Ramadhan ni, apa kata?

Apa kata semua?

Hoho, lupa pula - maklumlah masuk panggung teater pun baru sekali. Tapi serius, kalau buat bunyinya perlahan sedikit, lebih sihat untuk telinga orang dewasa pun rasanya. Nak tengok tayangan apa tu?

perlukah saya membaca ditandas sbb kawasan tu jer yg paling suam di ppas nih ...
Najibah, maksud Najibah nak tengok tayangan apa tu, teater XD ke? I once wrote an entry on the XD theatre at my blog, if that's any help on shedding the light. Click here to read it.
Kast, aircond masih baru, bangunan baru, semua serba baru kecuali koleksi buku, memanglah sejuknya terasa. The mini garden on the balcony of each floor is open now. You can go there to get warm on your next visit to the library.

:D, nampaknya saya sudah salah faham mengenai teater XD ni. Saya ingat ia adalah panggung teater. Kenapa dinamakan teater ye, itu semacam permainan realiti virtual saja. Agak mengelirukan.

Saya suka aircond sejuk. Lagi sejuk lagi bagus. Biar sejuk sampai nampak wap bila menghembus nafas. Tapi saya rasa tak leh dtg bulan Puasa ni sebab....malas keluar bulan puasa.

A'a, PPAS patut ada satu maskot bukulah, Nana. Baru menarik bila ada acara apa2.
Apapun saya sokong raya gathering macam Lola dan Kataklicik kata tu :)

The new Selangor state library in Seksyen 13, Shah Alam, is now open to public. Business hours are as follows:
12:00 noon to 6:00 pm on Monday
(except the computers area, which is open at 10 am every Monday)
9:30 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday-Friday
9:30 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday-Sunday
How to get there?
First, find Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (KGSAAS). The library is located opposite the golf club.
To get to the library / golf club, you must find the entrance, which is nearby Kolej PTPL. But if you come from the direction where Shah Alam stadium is on your right, the entrance is opposite the entrance to Laman Seri - one of Shah Alam elite residential areas, and that is at the junction just before you reach Kolej PTPL.
Once you manage to find the entrance, the 'gerbang', insya Allah, rest assured, you'll see direction to the new library along the avenue.
