Bloodlines is like a prequel I think to the Vampire Academy series. It's a world based on the idea that there are humans who are protected by Alchemists who try to keep the peace between vampires and them. They're marked with a golden lily to identify them and pretty much its in the perspective of Sidney Sage who's an Alchemist sent on a mission to protect a moroi (vampires with an element power) who if killed can cause a huge disruption in the vampire world. And it is not one of those very predictable books like marked.

Bloodlines series is the spin off of Vampire academy series so there are vampires in bloodlines too but there are other things as well. The main characters are different. Side characters in VA are the leading characters in Bloodlines. I havent read VA but I know what happens in it but Bloodlines is one of my all time favourites. You might want to start from VA that is up to you. But I'd definitely recommend this series. The author Richelle Mead became one of my favourite authors after I read Bloodlines series. Her style is so fluent, funny, the characters are amazing and the plot is awesome there is always a mystery.
