I greatly enjoyed Robert Fitzgerald's translation. I had been wanting to read the Aeneid again (the last time was in high school, in the Penguin prose version), so I compared several translations until I decided on his.

The Fitzgerald was very readable in my opinion. I really enjoyed it. There is also a 5 part itunes series on the poem from Stanford University which was an excellent companion for me. I would not have made it through without it.
Bought the Fagles translation the other day at an indie bookshop in town. Haven't read it yet, but it looks to be very palatable, just reading the first few pp. There is much critical material.
I read Fagles' translation at Uni, I found it a bit hard to digest, but maybe I was just swamped with course work at the time. After reading your review, I might pick it up again.
