I wonder why you didn't say the same when Maggie, a lover, asked a reader to fuck off. That is worse than what Mereworth did, isn't it?
I assume you somehow missed her comment...:)

Ah..so. It is unfortunate that it was the lover who behaved badly then. If it was a hater, you would go on with your speech...LOL. I laughed reading your comment. Why did I need to be whiny because of Twilight? You are indeed something.
Twilight's fantasy is awful but I like the romance in it except for Jacob's part. He is such a lame character. You need to look carefully at my rating. It is 4. You were probably blinded by your anger that you missed what I actually asked. You really need to calm down before submitting another comment. Or you don't have to. You will then entertain me with that.

AMEN!!!! :)
I think everybody on both sides of this debate is really frustrated, and I get why. Twilight lovers are annoyed at having to defend what they like when people lay into them about it, and the non fans get just as annoyed by the people who attack us over our problems with it. Usually an obsessed friend tells me the reason I don't like it is because I don't get it, which I don't think is fair. But since I am reading them to satisfy said friend, she thinks she can turn me into a fan, I do wonder how she can become so affronted when my opinion doesn't of the books doesn't change at least I'm giving them a go and not simply pre- judging.Nobody should have to defend themselves for simply liking something that appeals to them. But I think as long as those who don't like it are civilsed their discussing the negatives shouldn't be harmful. Every book in the world receives criticism and I certainly don't think mine are small or petty.

I apologize if it is coming off too harsh but as Suzanne hit the nail on the head, there's a lot of frustration when I join a discussion and there is none. I was compelled by Twilight; I found it to be in intense in a way that is singular to adolescents. And I wasn't even an adolescent at the time I read the series. SM has her faults; her writing is nothing extraordinary but in the end I was still hooked by the anecdotal star-crossed lovers and was driven to read and find out their fate. By the by, Jacob was frustrating for me as well- perhaps because I found him far too immature for Bella.
And Kali, thanks for your observation!
The one thing people always forget seemed like the most obvious to me: Bella is a Necrophiliac.

I think SM simply wrote romance series with bits of fantasy here and there. She did not predict that the series was going to get lots of fans (and haters). She would have perfected her fantasy world knowledge if she had known that. My friends said that The Host is way better. No idea. I still have my long list of to-read books before reading that...
How did I get back on this stupid discussion? I bet SM laughs all the way to the bank.

Wow. That was a whole, long list of just... dumb. There's no other words for it. Yes, you may have made maybe a couple good points in there somewhere... maybe...but the rest is just as dumb as you claim Twilight to be. Reread and think some of those over. Have you ever lost a child to understand where Esme is coming from? Yes Bella is a little over-the-top obsessive but a first love is always a big one. If you actually understood the book you would also understand why Aice leaves the family in Breaking Dawn. Think about time periods also when making DUMB judgments on characters. If you were actually a person with a heart and soft spot for well-being and life would you let everyone die?... Even if you were a doctor? My own list of idiocies that are found in your list could go on.
Just saying... If you're going to make an argument out of something... make it a good one. You can't say you're going to "bare the facts" when you so obviously don't understand any of the story AT ALL. Did you actually read any of the books before almost making an effort to bash it? If I were you I'd be embarassed I posted that ridiculous mess and delete it before more people saw how simple-minded I seemed.

I hate to start anything (and this might) but I just have to say that this list is utterly ridiculous. I will agree with many of the points and I do like Twilight. I'm not in love with it or obsessed but it's entertaining even if I don't agree with everything.
So much of that was just filler, the point would have been made better, and be respectable, if the list was condensed into 25 reasons.
I just wanted to make a few points:
- A book doesn't suck because certain characters are "strange", "childish", "emo", "irresponsible", "unsafe", "not proactive", "weirdos", "rich", "plain", and "stupid". Those are the things that make it interesting and give it dimension. The world is full of these people, it'd be unrealistic to write a book that didn't contain characters with these, or other, qualities.
- You can't be upset that all of these people have imperfections and then be angry that "Angela is too perfect". It's inconsistent.
- Several items including but not limited to numbers 41, 50, 70, 90, 99, are not reasons why Twilight sucks but either something random or unrelated to the actual writing of the story.
- There is a lot of repetition and unwarranted anger in this list. Twilight might not be the main issue here. Saying "Don't jump off a cliff Bella, slam your head into a wall" is some pretty intense hate and anger and negates itself by proposing one violent act for an impulsive and dangerous one.
This list was just a bit ludicrous and even I am saying that from the viewpoint that you made some very good points in there. I just don't understand why the meanness about it. Express yourself but you could try and not do it in an offensive manner (I am referring to some word choices that had nothing to do with the book, this subject, or anyone's love or hate for Twilight) in a public forum.

Tiff thank you. I didn't see your post when I was making mine but I was getting concerned when I saw how many people loved that list lol.

what the hell is wrong with you. ether your blind or you have never read the series! its amazing!

YOUR WRONG A** HOLE

I didn't even read the list- perhaps because the first reason began with Jane Austen and as much as I dislike JA's books, I don't know why they're even being used as a comparison. There is not an original thought in literature; we draw everything from our lives and experiences. That's what makes literature good- because it is based in something universal that will allow the readers to connect. So the fact that I could disqualify number one was enough to keep me from wasting my time on the rest.

Wow...S Meyers did an AWESOME job writing not just a BOOK,but a series which even at my 40yrs of age I enjoyed Immensly!I read it more than once.Whats the nasty hype about??There are HUNDREDS books that are BAD,and sorry Twilight is definately NOT it!
Just check out her fan base, her movies...It must be something GOOD..it was about LOVE,and between two very different species. That is always a HIT.Jacob..well Bella didn't LOVE Jacob in the way she loved Edward!!
Whats so hard to understand??
He watched her sleep??Sooo....I watched my husband sleep with adoration..thats SICK??
lol..Love stories are the Best..than add a paranormal Twist and MAYBE if your good enough you get a HIT..Just like Twilight is..a Hit!=)

There is a HUGE difference between watching your husband sleep, and sneaking into an acquaintance's house to watch th..."
Bahaha!! I love it Kali and it's so true!

I don't think that list took a lot of effort honestly lol. It was pretty pitiful. I agree with what you said though. Why waste so much energy on something you don't like?

Just because it's popular doesn't make it good.
I found the series to be poorly written, and mysogonistic. It's fine if you watch your husband while he sleeps. You aren't sneaking into your own bedroom, are you? Edward is a stalker, and that's just the begining of my issues with him. :/

:-)

I'm in education and in all reality, this is a common statement in my classes. I spent my student teaching weeks helping juniors learn basic sentence structure.
Oh dear. Oh.... dear.
Any more sicker? Ah. Does you have good grammars? Me thinks so. Hmmmm. But in essence I agree with you. Twilight is gross.
