Pretty simple: Tell us which book was the last one you brought. Where from, how much? Am I the only one who buys books, like every weekend? :S

I was *this close* to buying The Stand and Misery today, for $10 each, but I have both already-these were just nicer editions. Plus, Im trying to save some money.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

naw Jess I have this problem too!
in fact I have 3 editions of pride and prejudice for this reason lol
I think I'm just going to go out and try to collect all the covers for that book

message 8: by Swiftfire (new)

Swiftfire | 72 comments I just bought The Great Gatsby on my Kindle for about $13. My mom's mad I'm spending all my babysitting money on books the moment I get it, but it's not my fault we don't already have classics in our house.

message 9: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Just got A Tale of Two Castles like a few hours ago at Borders And since they're going out of business it was like 15.30 (w/o tax)

message 10: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments A Game of Thrones by George R. Martin at Borders a few hours ago. The sale price was $8.20 (10% off of $8.99), but I used a gift certificate.

message 11: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments gift certificates are always good- and you need to use them up anyways since I know that at least my borders is accepting them through the end of the month only. then it's just cash, check, and card.

message 12: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments That's why we went to Borders–to use up the gift cards. Of course, we're sure there are more at home that we missed (we're on vacation, and by the time we get home it'll be too late to use them) but we tried. And got books out of it.

message 13: by Baxter (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 383 comments My Borders trip ended with me picking up:
Run With the Hunted by Charles Bukowski
The Soft Machine by William S Burroughs
Black Hole by Charles Burns
Looking For Alaska by John Green
Then I grabbed some movies and CDs. THEN I went to a different (and heavenly) book store and got:
Oblivion by David Foster Wallace
Complete Stories by Jorge Luis Borges
Letters From Prison by Marquis de Sade

I consider it all a success.

My Borders is already closed :(
I got $150 worth of gift cards for borders for my birthday. I kid you not, 9 days later the whole situaion started, and my cards could only be used for a 50% discount. So I hurried up and spent them. Then a month later practically all stock was gone. But I got at least three dozen dirt cheap books out of that. In the last week they had 90% off. I only got 2 books, sincemmost were crap , but still...

( I apologize for any typos, writing on a phone is HARD

message 15: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Aww, that stinks, Jess! I think they closed the ones (when they were doing that earlier) that had a lot of competition around them.

That's nice. Apparently i went to Borders on the first day of the sale since my mom had driven past it the day before and said that they weren't doing anything yet. But that was like, two days after it was announced so it made some sense.

(And that's fine. i hate checking GR or anything really on a phone- I use my friends phones when i do, but still)

message 16: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I really need to get City of Fallen Angels..

message 17: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I don't feel like reading that one in the near future. I wasn't the biggest fan of the MI series.

Nah, not getting CoFA . Ive read so many bad reviews, and Im content with leaving the series where it is. The story should be over.

Also, I just brought Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman at Dymocks (only big chain left in Australia, I suppose) for $22.90
Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman

message 19: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments Oh, I like them... But I might just borrow from the library when they get it.. Which won't be in the near future, my library sucks.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

COFA was not worth it!

message 21: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments CoFA was not up to the standard of the rest of them. If you have the willpower not to read it, it's probably a good idea.

My Borders was doing very well, so they didn't close in the first wave, or have any sales or anything. Then, when it became obvious that it was all going to close, we figured it was time to use up all our gift cards, but it was time for vacation, so we took them with us. Then, literally at the same time as they were explaining this to me (since I had been at camp and therefore out of the world for the last three weeks) my dad got an e-mail from the NY times saying that Borders was going for good. I think that was Tuesday morning, and later that afternoon my mom got an e-mail from Borders saying that the stores would be open with sales for a while and gift cards were still usable through early August, so we went on Saturday when we were near a Borders anyway.

message 22: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments NIce. It was on the news on Monday (I remember because my facebook status was something about the 2 disappointments of the day being HP and Borders closing) then it was in the paper on tuesday. wednesday they hadn't started the sales but thursday they had. at least, i'm pretty sure.

message 23: by Mayze (new)

Mayze COFA was just not as good as the other three :(

I also just made a borders run the other day. Two of the three in my area had already closed, but the third is still open. I got several books there, but the ones that I'm most excited to read are The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (that may have been spelled wrong) and A Short History of Nearly Everything.

message 24: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments No, you spelled it right, and it's a really good book. It's a great story and really well written. A Short History of Nearly Everything is supposed to be really good too.

message 25: by Mayze (new)

Mayze Yeah my school sends out a list of recommended books to read complied by, guess who? The science teachers. They highly recommended The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, so I figured I'd read it.

message 26: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Wait. The science teachers compile the recommended reading list? Confusing.

message 27: by Mayze (new)

Mayze Yeah... apparently when they asked the english teachers nobody could come up with anything... but when they asked the science teachers? They have a list about 100 books long.

message 28: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Well that's...interesting.

message 29: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments That's... strange.

message 30: by Mayze (new)

Mayze Yeah I was a little weirded out too, but they recommend good books!

message 31: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I guess if it works, it doesn't really matter.

message 32: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Yeah, you'd just assume that the English teachers would be the ones to send it out. But if everything works then I'm okay with it. :)

message 33: by Soumya (new)

Soumya If you guys are looking for cheap books, you can get used books at Amazon. Generally, the used books are in good shape. You can get some books for even a dollar.

message 34: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I bought a bookshelf a couple of days ago, if that counts. 13 bucks.

message 35: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Barnes and noble, if you go to their online store has really good prices too. and you don't have to buy from barnes and noble, they have 'trusted companies' and most of the time those books are extremely cheap- and new!

message 36: by Soumya (new)

Soumya Borders also has cheep books online. Just to let everyone know, keep a look out for Borders, It's going out of business and sales started. So if you're looking for books, go to Borders!

message 37: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Of course You need to do it soon as soon the site and stores won't be there anymore.

message 38: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments At the moment Borders is cheap because it's disappearing, but not only will it not be around for long, the longer you wait the fewer books it will have because they're not restocking (I'd assume).

message 39: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I go to Barnes & Noble; no Borders are near me.

message 40: by Mayze (new)

Mayze There used to be 3 Borders near me, 2 Barnes and Nobles and 2 small bookstores that were in my town. All of the Borders are gone, and so is one of the small bookstores

message 41: by Casey (new)

Casey (andshesfearless) i get all my books offline- half.com is a great site. i just bought where the wild things are for 75 cents, the phantom of the opera for about 3 dollars, and then wreck this journal off of amazon for about 6 dollars

I just brought Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman for $11 via 'The Book Depository.com', which has free shipping :D

message 43: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Neil Gaiman.....didn't he write the book Stardust? And he also wrote a couple episodes on series 6 of Doctor Who. (One of the BEST SHOWS EVER!)

The Romance Bookie (theromancebookie) | 22 comments OMG I seriously have a problem! I bought six brand new books in the past week! First I ordered three at Barnes and Noble.com City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare , Twisted (Pretty Little Liars, #9) by Sara Shepard , and The Help by Kathryn Stockett .

And THEN I got an email from bn.com that Never Have I Ever (The Lying Game #2) by Sara Shepard was on sale (40% off!!!), so of course I had to buy that! Plus, I wanted the free shipping and handle, so I also got Sisterhood Everlasting A Novel by Ann Brashares and Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks , which both also on sale!

I seriously have a problem as you can see, I spent over $60 on books!!! I swear I usually don't do that, especially when I don't have a job. It was treat to myself for getting paid real good for a few jobs I had done the last couple of weeks. :)

message 45: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Well, it's a good price at any rate for 6 books. nowadays books tend to cost a bit more than around $10 each.

message 46: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid The Help is a wonderful book. I read that this summer when on vacation. I couldn't put it down.

message 47: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I was gonna say, that's a pretty good deal.

message 48: by Mayze (new)

Mayze I really liked The Help. They're making a movie of it which I think comes out soon.

message 49: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Yup! I can't wait to see it. My mom and I are going to watch it together.

The Romance Bookie (theromancebookie) | 22 comments Yeah that's what I thought to that it was actually a pretty good deal. And I'm actually reading "The Help" right now :), I wanted to read it before the movie came out :), and so far I really like it!
