Ruth | 5 comments Ok, this one is going to sound crazy... I'm starting to think I just imagined it (like the time I dreamed watching 'lawnmower man' as a film about a serial killer with a lawnmower...)
anyway, in this childrens book there was a super intelligent slug who believed he was the reincarnation of pythagoras. He lived with a family of humans, who knew of and tolerated his existence (possibly only the children?) but he couldn't communicate with them as far as I remember (if he did it was through writing messages in slime).
There were a few books in the series, one involved the mother of the family becoming obsessed with knitting, to the point where the whole house was full of knitted versions of everything: cups, teapot, plants, fruit bowl, etc.
This one's a weird one for this group as I'm pretty sure I remember the name of teh book, but a google search for 'pythagoras super slug' (or just any two of those words) comes up with nothing.
any ideas? I'd like to mention this to people without them thinking I'm completely crazy... :)

chucklesthescot That phrase 'pythagoras super slug' is familiar to me so I don't think you're crazy! I'm going to try and do some research on this...

chucklesthescot Ok did some searching and there is this one-Software Superslug and the nutty novelty knitting by Joyce Dunbar. In this story the mother compares Superslug to Pythagoras so this might be what you're looking for.

"Another Software Superslug story. When Mrs Potter compares Software to the philosopher Pythagoras, he is thrilled. That explains why he has the brains of a genius but the body of a slug. But can he convince the humans that he really is one of them?"
