They had their first closure on the Monday of last week.

Ye I have been told that as well.Although I've also heard numerous rants saying Jim Butcher is a sexist prat, which he most definitely is in real life, but I haven't seen it in the books so far.
Well, I've about finished book 1, and there is a certain flavour for sure. But I'd put that down to the genre, where the women tend to be either victims or femme fatales...
Louise-Lesley (Elle) wrote: "I started The Kite Runner which so far is a total snorefest.I really dislike the way its wrote and its REALLY putting me off. I *really* do not like first person narrative!"
Oh dear, I was hoping you were going to say the book was much better than the film (which I disliked...)
After all the hype I expected better. Hey ho. Off to cross that one of the list then
I've recently finished reading The Spanish Helmet which was quite good but didn't grip me as much as I thought it would - to be fair though, that could be due to distractions as I read it on the coach and in London...
Now I've just started Ghost Fleet, one of the group book reads. I've only read a few pages but am liking the way that it is written so far.

It's not really my type of book to start off with so I would only take my opinion with a pinch of salt.
Although tried reading a little more and just *cannot* get into it!!

Now for book 2.
I've been having a slow reading week due to work and freelance work commitments. But I have just finished the very groovy The Shadow of Black Wings, and this morning went back to paper to start Kate Griffin's A Madness of Angels: Or the Resurrection of Matthew Swift, which was recommended to me recently by Ben Aaronovitch. I'm not quite in the mood for Griffin's book right now, to be honest, my eye keeps sliding up the page to look out of the window (on the train) or at my cat (at home). Almost certainly no comment on her book, I'm just slowly going crazy under a stupid workload.
last night I read (it's not long and you can't stop reading it!) Steve Roach's Filthy Shades of Gray. It doesn't appear to be on here. It's rude and raunchy and a tad (more than a tad!) gross in places but I guess a parody needs to be exaggerated. I'm naught enough to have enjoyed it - but it gets darker and more thoughtful as it progresses. I've not heard anyone accuse the original of that.Just started Dirty Old Town and Other Stories Only read one so far but it's got something!

Ta chuck. Stu's isn't on yet either - I'm sure he'll do it tonight - if he can be persuaded before he opens a bottle!
Yay! Jud's a winner!Just finished Nigel Bird's Dirty Old Town and Other Stories - a book of short stories which I enjoyed very much.
Knocking off over the weekend to pre-read another of Andy Barrett's next trilogy.
Finished Clan Fraser, Once RemovedTerrific read.Started and finished Strangeness on a Train. A very short read, great if you disike bad manners.
Started and finished A Moment of Wrong Thinking a freebie short by an author new to me but who has been around for a long time. I will look for more of his work.
Started The Bird That Nobody Sees
Finished reading Stealing Elgar Oh Wow! was going to finish reading Alison's Evil next but had to rush on to read part three No More Tears Andrew Barrett just coulden't help my self.
Philip (sarah) wrote: "I'm saving those for my next holiday Pat."The first is good but the second you just won't be able to put down!
Glad you enjoyed A Moment of Wrong Thinking, Sarah. I have loved this author for years despite the fact I was aged 4 when his first book was published....lol. A friend laughed at me the other day when I almost wet myself 'cos the author sent me a message on facebook. Such a fangirl I am.I finished The Night Circus the other day and have not been able to start anything since. One of those "book hangover" things I think they call it.
Sounds like you enjoyed night circus as much as i did Maureen, I also found it difficult to get into another novel after reading it. I read a history book and that seemed to do the trick, a complete change of subject worked wonders.Just finished the cutting room by jilliane hoffman, enjoyed it. Not sure what to start next.
Visited the annual ‘Book Fair’ (second hand books sold for charity) a week or so ago, and thought now that I’ve bought a Kindle I’ll not be too bothered about ‘real’ books – wrong! All books are in excellent condition

Yes I will review them, I thought the first was good but the second, Wow! loved it, couldn't put it down and had to rush on to the third at 1.30 am befor I could turn the light off and go to sleep! Will think about what I am going to say.edit to say it's done
I've just finished
and have just started
. The latter seems to be some interesting blend of Isaac Asamov, Douglas Adams, and Terry Pratchet humour. COuld go either way and be amazing or agonisingly inane.
Ignite wrote: "That's often the thing with a series - they improve as they go on!"Talking of which - I am making Tollesbury Time Forever Book 1 and The Bird That Nobody Sees Book 2 in a series called FRUGALITY. I have the outline for Book 3 sorted so fun times ahead! (and if a goodreads librarian would be kind enough to add the details to the aforementioned books that would be great!)
Yep! I will write a little bit on my thread so as not to derail this one!Almost finished Barnaby Rudge and loving it!
I finished No Name and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed The Moonstone I don't know how anyone could write so many twists to a story while keeping track of the story themselves and also keeping it simple enough for the reader to follow. It started a bit slow but I really enjoyed it :o)Have started The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood
Oh I also read Beauty Never Dies which wasn't as great as it could have been, a few typos as well. It's only a prequel so maybe the actual books are better.
Morning,Apologies if I've already posted this. I've just finished Telling Stories and it's a winner. Just to qualify that, it's a winner if you have an interest in the Charlatans band and British music from the late 1980's onwards. Otherwise it won't mean much to you.
Burgess wrote it himself so it tends to wander. I preferred this to the polish of using a ghost writer though. He talks fondly of his bandmates, especially the late Rob Collins and he is also very open about his demons which he seems to have conquered.
Also he gives insight into the songs, where and when they were written and why. All in all, for fans of the band and music from that era you can't go wrong.
I think you did mention it before Jamie but I'm really glad you did again.I think Dave will be really interested in it.
Started and finished Eclectic:Ten Very Different Tales by Jonathan Hill.Very good, enjoyed them all.Started and finished Smile by Matt Shaw. This had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
Both these books were free and don't appear to be linked, again worth searching for.
I've finished reading by Stolen: A Letter to My Captor Lucy Christopher and now I'm a few chapters into Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith.
