They have been setting up for weeks. I think it was before last Wednesday though, maybe the one before? They had their first closure on the Monday of last week.

I've recently finished reading The Spanish Helmet which was quite good but didn't grip me as much as I thought it would - to be fair though, that could be due to distractions as I read it on the coach and in London...

Now I've just started Ghost Fleet, one of the group book reads. I've only read a few pages but am liking the way that it is written so far.

It's not really my type of book to start off with so I would only take my opinion with a pinch of salt.

I've been having a slow reading week due to work and freelance work commitments. But I have just finished the very groovy The Shadow of Black Wings, and this morning went back to paper to start Kate Griffin's A Madness of Angels: Or the Resurrection of Matthew Swift, which was recommended to me recently by Ben Aaronovitch. I'm not quite in the mood for Griffin's book right now, to be honest, my eye keeps sliding up the page to look out of the window (on the train) or at my cat (at home). Almost certainly no comment on her book, I'm just slowly going crazy under a stupid workload.

last night I read (it's not long and you can't stop reading it!) Steve Roach's Filthy Shades of Gray. It doesn't appear to be on here. It's rude and raunchy and a tad (more than a tad!) gross in places but I guess a parody needs to be exaggerated. I'm naught enough to have enjoyed it - but it gets darker and more thoughtful as it progresses. I've not heard anyone accuse the original of that.

Just started Dirty Old Town and Other Stories Only read one so far but it's got something!

Sounds like you enjoyed night circus as much as i did Maureen, I also found it difficult to get into another novel after reading it. I read a history book and that seemed to do the trick, a complete change of subject worked wonders.
Just finished the cutting room by jilliane hoffman, enjoyed it. Not sure what to start next.

I finished No Name and I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed The Moonstone I don't know how anyone could write so many twists to a story while keeping track of the story themselves and also keeping it simple enough for the reader to follow. It started a bit slow but I really enjoyed it :o)

Apologies if I've already posted this. I've just finished Telling Stories and it's a winner. Just to qualify that, it's a winner if you have an interest in the Charlatans band and British music from the late 1980's onwards. Otherwise it won't mean much to you.


Burgess wrote it himself so it tends to wander. I preferred this to the polish of using a ghost writer though. He talks fondly of his bandmates, especially the late Rob Collins and he is also very open about his demons which he seems to have conquered.

Also he gives insight into the songs, where and when they were written and why. All in all, for fans of the band and music from that era you can't go wrong.
