Just finished - just started
Just finished Flux by Mark Faulker (one of our lads). Flux For a first novel this is wonderful - this lad has a lot of potential. I'll review it later today.
Still reading Karl's Shattered. Another cracker. Indies rock!
Just finished (well in last week) A Wee Christmas Homicide, Ghost of a Smile & best of all Tom Fleck which is outstanding! ( will do reviews for you Harry in a couple of days when family all gone home) I hope to start Night Stalker by Chris Carter.
Finished Graven Image. Started and finishedSolstice An anthology of short stories which I really enjoyed, varied and imaginative.Starting The house by the sea by Lee Richardson.
Started The Flesh is Weak. The Flesh is WeakJust finished The Wages of Sin
Excellent read. Good characters Strong story Fast and I didn't expect the ending.
Evening all,I've just finished 11/22/63 by Stephen King and really enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of King anyway (I wrote my undergrad dissertation on the film adaptations of his books) and he is my favourite writer.
Given the subject matter and my distance from it, it perhaps didnt resonate with me in the same way it might for an American, particularly someone who lived through the events. But King's storytelling is so powerful (as ever) that you feel utterly "in" the world he creates.
It's a long book at ovr 700 pages but as the fateful date draws near, the pace really picks up and it's hard to stop reading as you just need to know if he prevents Oswald pulling the trigger.
As ever with King there's lots more going on that just the main plot but I'll leave you to disciver it for yourself. Throughly recommended.
About to read: Peter James - Dead mans Grip
Brilliant, Jamie! I'm really looking forward to reading 11/22/63. It's nice to see good reviews as his books have been panned recently. Under the Dome was embarrassing and just not good, in my opinion.I'd love to read your dissertation. I have definite views of the film adaptions of his books. Shan't bore you with them now.
I've just finished a handful of books - Citizen Insane which I enjoyed, Fup which was ok and Aztec Sun which was awful so I skipped huge parts of it. Need something better now so just started a PG Wodehouse that I bought a couple of months ago - A Damsel in Distress

Just finished Karl Jones' book Shattered. It's wonderful. I suspected everyone of the murders! (Including the perp but everyone else too!)

I too enjoyed The Wages of Sin, Pat, especially as it was set near to where I live.
Just finished A Hole in the World, still currently reading Broken City and making a start on The Book Thief
Shelley, I love Terri Reid's books, great story-teller. ;-)I'm reading a draft copy of Linda Prather's new book Find Me, it's excellent so far. ;-)
Finished The House by the SeaV,good short story.Read a short biography about John Denver,it was dreadful. No detail, full of prayers and platitudes.Started and finished Right Dress, Wrong GirlWhich finished with a chapter of his novel Shattered (link above),had to then read the rest. 40% in and as Ignite says a great whodunit!
I just finished Shattered, I suspected everyone too had no idea until near the end, and have just started a book that a friend lent me about 2 years ago Small Island. Thought now would be a good time to read it as I am going to visit her in a couple of weeks. Might keep it for myself if it's any good.

Hi Susan Indeed an excellent series. I am a good way through The Shadow of Death and loving it.
I am reading Sister - Rosamund Lupton. But I have read Freaks - Tess Gerritsen, Time Bomb - Jonathan Kellerman and Cat Calls - Cynthia Leitich Smith since I've had my Kindle (31st December 2011)
Finished Shattered and as previously said it was a great whodunit.Started Flux by Mark Faulkner after reading Ignite's recommendation.20% in and enjoying it so far.
Oh good - I like to think I'm recommending good books - I think they are of course!I've just started Nell Grey's
Solstice. I'm on the fourth story so far. They are beautifully written and have quite quirky endings. Really enjoying it!
Still also compulsively re-reading Words to the Wise but, as has been said, I'm a Cornflake!
You DO recommend good books Ignite, there is no think about it. I always look forward to a book that you enjoyed as you seem to have the nack of getting it right all the time. Thank you, you're a star!

It's not scary in the sense that it's something you fear that could happen to you. It's scary in a rather sad and piognant way in that you feel so much for Iain but you can see he is getting no help. I found it wonderfully gripping and thought-provoking. Some funny bits too.

Hi Patti,
It's easy to pan Kings work because he's so prolific. I agree some of his stuff is weak - by his own standards, especially his endings (rose madder, the girl who loved tom gordon) . But when he's good, there's none better for an engaging, gripping story. FYI, the diss focussed on The Shining, Dead Zone and Carrie.
Two of those books I was enthralled with, one, not so much. I don't think I agree with your statement that it's easy to pan his work because he's prolific. In my opinion, it's easy to pan some of it because some it is crap, quite frankly. Nothing to do with how many he has written. Each should stand on it's own merits. Several of his books, I would have taken up the seven day money back offer from from amazon, to be honest. And I'm saying that as a huge Sai King fan. Not Rose Madder. I lived that one. Tom Gordon? No. He was reaching beyond his expertise in storytelling with that one,I think.
Just finished
I could easily relate to Mary. She's fun, quirky, witty, but also has a vulnerable side that she covers up with sarcasm. She's also a good PI, investigating the death of her uncle. It's a fun, fast-paced mystery wrapped up with a lot of humor. Would love to read another Mary Cooper mystery.
I love threads like this, although they do end up making that TBR list even longer!! I am currently reading most of the Alex Cross series by James PAtterson - I am on Cat and Mouse, but I have read this one before, so it will be a quick read - as are most of his though, due to the size of the chapters. It is one of the things that I dont like about him. Whether I will get fed up before I read all of his I dont know, have never read more than 6 of an authors books in one go before.
I got fed up with James Patterson's more recent stuff. But I loved the Alex Cross series. Dunno if it was just there was so many or if the other people he is writing with were influencing the writing too much
Just finished Nell Grey's short stories Solstice. Delightful!Just started Ancient Revenge. I'm enjoying it one chapter in. Mught turn out to be a bit Dan Brownish but then I read them. I read sauce bottles!
I finished A Damsel in Distress by PG Wodehouse, last night. I love the way he writes, I enjoyed this and it made me chuckle a couple of times - but it's not one of my favourites.
I've just started Precious and the Monkeys , only read a couple of pages, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Just finished A Quiet Belief in Angels. A bit of a grim read in places, but compelling and worth it. About to start Amsterdam which I bought in a charity shop a while back.
Just finished A Dog Named SluggerBeautifully written, very moving story of the life and love of a grand dog and his mistress. One everyone should read
I also downloaded that book - will add it to my read soon folder.

Started Tom Fleck
Finished Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agencyfor the January group read - very clever with some deliciously written passages.
I just finished Small Island I didn't think much of it a bit grey and bland the whole way through. Now I've started Sourcery am 20% in and loving it :o)
Jud (Krisztof) wrote: "I just finished Small Island I didn't think much of it a bit grey and bland the whole way through. I thought it shone a light on a point in time and perspective that was genuinely unusual, that of an immigrant in the 1950s.
I found it really boring! :o) I realised this morning that it won prizes so I am surprised I didn't enjoy it more. Just not my cup of tea I guess.
I tried to read Small Island shortly after my father died, so I relise I wasn't in a very receptive mood. I just found it intensely irritating. I remember a bit about 'St Twiggywinkles'. I couldn't believe anybody wouldn't know it was referring to the Beatrice Potter book, and should be 'Tiggy' not 'Twiggy'. Maybe a misprnt, but I gave up at that point.
Maybe it's the fact I read the DTB of it rather than on my Kindle and the despair in being separated from my Kindle and the jealousy exuding from my Kindle subconsciously prevented my enjoyment
