On the subject of sagas Ignite, have you read The Source? I've read it twice over the years and find it a fabulous book. Especially interesting to you, of course, as it's about archaeology (Mentioning your interests not age, of course!).
I bought The Source in march 2010. Have not read it. It's a tome on tissue paper pages with tiny font. I did drag it all the way to India and back last Christmas, though, in case my kindle died.I'll wait for the kindle version.
"(Mentioning your interests not age, of course!). "Wasn't it Sir Mortimer Wheeler's wife who said that the good thing about being married to an archaeologist is that the older you get the more interested he is?
Awww didn't realise it wasn't onkindle. ... Just done the clicky thing to say I wanted a kindle version of it :)
Ignite wrote: "I haven't Geoff (yet!) but it sounds right up my street. You, young man, are costing me money!"Sorry Ignite, If I still had my copy I'd happily send it you. Mind you, it would be a DTB.
I've just finished Snowdrops. I read it for my book club, and I see it was shortlisted for the Booker. Very atmospheric about post comunist Russia. Although the protagonist comes over as, well, not likable, you can see exactly how he behaves as he does. I enjoyed it.
I've just finished reading Stormwreck which I found very well written but hard to read. I'm not a horror fan at all and there were some gruesome bits that really freaked me out. Now that I have come to the end of it I'm glad I kept going. But my next book will have to be a frothy comedy one!
hello I'm back :o) Would have posted in the Morning thread but its dropped off the first page of my unread topics so here will have to do. Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year! The Source sounds like it might be worth checking out. If I'm in town tomorrow I'm definitely going to the library. I read loads of books over the holidays, one of which was awful and I gave a review saying that it was full of errors and got hate responses for it, maybe I shouldnt have said it was painful but it was.
Anyway just finished Treasure Island and now reading Dogs Of War (my first Spalding). The Hunger Games is up next
Just read Dead Simple which I enjoyed. Needed a light hearted read so started Dear Air 2000. I am aiming to read some of 600 + books on my Kindle to read list but it just keeps growing!
I just finished a romcom by Traci Hohenstein
- this is a really fun, easy-to-read, sweet romance, and it's FREE at the mo! :)
Mark wrote: "Just finished re reading to kill a mockingbird, and just started 'the keep'."Oh, I love To Kill a Mockingbird - it's one of the few books that I re-read. Shame she only wrote the one book!
Just seen that Jud. Honestly, if there is a revised version of it, aren't you right to say that the original had errors? And then couldn't they just point out that there was a newer version and that maybe you should give it a try and maybe amend your review instead of attacking you? Surely you're not meant to know when there is an upgraded version of a book you have (unless amazon tells you which doesn't seem to be happening very often). Sorry you had to get that rubbish :(
Finished the Lost Fleet series Brilliant. I really enjoyed them. Also read the first book in the second and now have to wait for the rest. The Lost Fleet Beyond the Frontier - Dreadnaught
Also read Tea to Go
Tea to Go
Delightful read
Just finished Natural Reaction
Natural Reaction

I've just finished reading Hot Flash which I'd downloaded as a freebie in the summer (see, I do try to read the freebies! :0)
Now I'm starting Citizen Insane which I've had on my kindle for a few months - I'm trying to catch up with some of the older books on my kindle, otherwise I find that they get pushed to the back of the list and forgotten about.

Just finished Radio Multiverse - First Contact which I saw on the Amazon Meet our Authors forum. Science fiction/fantasy/thriller and very well written. Just started The Glass Apple which is shaping up well. Having a fantasy-fest!
I typed this already with links and lost the lot when I pressed 'post'.Abandoned Cover her Face at 40%,disappointed as I used to enjoy P,D,James but this was dire.
Started and finished Gift of Time by Rory MacLean and really enjoyed it.
Starting our Mel's High Spirits next.
I finished The Hunger Games last night and was planning on starting my church book club book but I just realised that I don't know what book it is cause its on my phone and I left my phone at home today :o( guess its Catching Fire up next
Dead Simple sounds like fun, will investigate.I've just finished Snuff which took a wee while to get going but grew on me rapidly once it did, and have just started The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way which everyone else has doubtless already read. Incredibly, it's my first Bryson - I almost never read non-fiction. Enjoying it so far.
I have only attempted to read one Bryson book Notes from a Small Island and really didn't like it although my Father read his book on Australia before he went on his trip a while ago and he liked it.
I think the Mother Tongue one was serialised on the radio a few years back. Really interesting - and funny of course. You know what he's like.

It's a good one though!!!
My most recent read was Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner by Diana Gabaldon. I particularly loved the way she used the plot devise of key "clues" being in a language (variants of Celtic) that only some characters understood and could thus control the translation/access of the information for the other characters who are nominally the dominant ones. Interesting all around. Here's my review.
I just finished Catching Fire and started Mockingjay I'm completely hooked and cant wait to find out how it ends
Just finished A Life For A LifeFirst of a series. New author for me. Enjoyed very much and will continue to read the next ones.
Just finished The Glass Apple by Robert Franks - it's a wonderful fantasy and is very influenced by Celtic mythology. Off to review it shortly.
This is my 3d attempt at posting this, the first wiped when I tried to add the second link. The second died when I tried to backspace in the book name box.
This time taking no chances: Started and finished High spirits by Mel Comely. Really enjoyed this short true story.
Started Graven Image by Charlie Williams.

Yipeeeeee!"
Good work Sarah.
Thanks Geoff,BTW any tips on mending a laptop which has been thrown across a room and kicked into submissiom? Lol.
I've just finished Good Tidings by Terri Reid. I have now downloaded the next 3 in the series. I must have spent £100's of pounds in pences since finding the cheap kindle books!!! it is so addictive, and so many of them are turning out to be so good!
Philip (sarah) wrote: "Thanks Geoff,BTW any tips on mending a laptop which has been thrown across a room and kicked into submissiom? Lol."Sometimes, that's just too good for 'em.
Sarah, I have a half disassembled desktop tower under the stairs. It pissed me off last year, so it's staying there until it's contrite.Bloody thing.
