Here's my Goodreads review: "A vibrant, authentic depiction of Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation. Jennifer Alderson does a magnificent job of bringing the past to life as she weaves an intriguing mystery full of suspense."
Just started "A Bridge of Sighs and Dreams" by Pamela Allegretto

Loved it. Easily a 5* read"
I've just started Strange the Dreamer, as it happens. Quite impressed so far!

No idea what I'll read next. Shall peruse my TBR now.

I also finished it today. Almost a five for me, but not quite. Really enjoyed it though and will review it later. I've been struggling to find books that engage me lately, so don't know what I'll read next either.

The secondary characters were slightly too two dimensional, perhaps.
The plot was excellent. The writing was very good. Imagery and foreshadowing was done well.
I started another thriller before bed. Dead Woman Walking
It's very well reviewed on goodreads, so I have high hopes for it but 25 pages in and I can't say I'm gripped.
I won't give up on it quite yet, though.

I liked the slow build up but felt that it became a bit pedestrian as the book continued, which resulted in a lack of real tension. Also felt that the characters reacted to some of the events a little too lightly.

I did also finish The Girl in the Fog, which was entertaining - a bit different though it did remind me of Durrenmatt's The Pledge.

Looking forward to reading this - it was one of the Guardian's picks a couple of weeks ago. As was Kate Rhodes' Hell Bay, and The Child Finder, Rene Denfield. So I've got some tasty reading ahead!

Let us know your thoughts when you're ready, Karen.
I'm interested to hear them.
I'll have a look at the other two you mentioned. Thanks for that.

Just started The City and the Stars by Arthur C. Clarke, set one billion years in the future. ...

I wish I could have the time I wasted on it back.
I'm reading The Goldfish Boy now.
I'm finding it quite disturbing. Very slow moving as well.
Hoping something happens soon.

A bit. Not the sort of thing I've read for quite a while.
But me and post modernism have never really got on.

Just started rereading

But they all seem to have disappeared now. Except for this one, and that's mainly because it became the basis for the film Straw Dogs.

Here's my Goodreads review: "Bridge of Sighs and Dreams" is a stirring and evocative portrait of Italy under the Fascists and the Nazi occupation. I've visited Italy several times and the elegant descriptions made me feel as if I had returned. This book left me breathless. It drew me in from the first page and didn't let go. It's a testament to the human spirit of survival.
Just started "Murder Most Malicious" by Alyssa Maxwell

Right, so now I will be starting The Chalk Man - poor book has a lot to live up to following on from that one!

Okay,
I'm grabbing The Child Finder.

Pam,
I read "The Seeker" too and loved it. It's a wonderfully atmospheric. S.G. Maclean captures the time period perfectly.

Anyway, I've now almost finished Dark Pines which again has a comedic edge to it - some of the characters are a hoot. I look forward to his next book too.

It won a Pulitzer back in the 60s, apparently. It was okay. The ending was very good.
I've started Cold Comfort Farm.
It's meant to be humorous. It's made me smirk a couple of times, but no outright laughter yet.
I'm also struggling a bit with the way the Sussex accent is written. More than an accent, really. It's a foreign language.

Hmmm. Hadn't considered it as a black comedy. Makes sense.
I'll have a look at the others you mentioned.

I've got the second one out of the library because I did enjoy The Seeker.

Just started The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. 11% in. It's excellent.
