Just started The Box: How the Shipping Container Made the World Smaller and the World Economy Bigger
, which has been highly recommended in various other non-fiction books and other places (articles, blogs, websites, podcasts and so on). So I thought it was time I gave it a go.

A Gentleman in Moscow is a new favourite. I don't know how Amor Towles manages to create such a full, busy world confined within a Russian hotel after the Russian revolution. My review

Just finished Winterscroft by Anita Waller. Much suspension of disbelief for someone who doesn't believe in ghosts, but a rattling good story which I can imagine making a good film.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I gave up on Dreamer, a very unconvincing horror tale by Peter James. Started Narrowing the Field a racing thriller by A P McCoy who is trying to follow the example of Dick Francis.
Read a Ramsey Campbell, Hungry Moon, and posted a review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1925761435.
Just finished The Abattoir of Dreams by Mark Tilbury. Gripping and horrifying at once. Deals with past abuse in a children's home. http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just finished Stitch In Snow Made a change to read an intelligently-written down-to-earth romance (by one of my favourite authors anyway).I can't find the Kilternan Legacy on Kindle though, Pat.

I am afraid it isn't on kindle. I have the hard back yellow/orange cover.
Here is the link for the paperback
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kilternan-Le...
It is £9.99 very dear for a paperback I am afraid. I think it is a bit too old for it to be in a library. Hope this helps
I remember that book. I'm sure I have it, but all my McCaffrey books are in storage in the UK. Amazon tells me I bought it in 2009.

My birthday's this month. I may have to give himself a wee prompt.

Yes, most of mine are in storage too, although I still have Restoree and Dragonsong to hand.

It does sound interesting.

I've only read the first couple of chapters so far. It is very interesting. More than you'd think for something about... well, a box.
Dave read a book about the game Monopoly recently. Another you'd think wouldn't be interesting. A friend recently read a book about...salt.Said it was facinating.
Some writers (and teachers) can make anything interesting.
Even sheep. Probably.

That's true.
A book about sheep probably would be interesting, especially if it included the best ways of cooking them.
I like lamb.

Vain sheep? Or vain lesbians?
Just finished Echoes in Death and about to start Mount!. However, debating whether to re-read Riders first to get into Jilly Cooper land.
Rereading
by Elizabeth Moon. Lovely story. Have just pre ordered her new 'Vatta' book.Back when I bought this e-book it cost £4.99 it now costs £9.99. I don't understand Why?
Irritating isn't it, Pat. My first port of call for a particular book is the public library. If that service can't oblige I look at the ebook. If that's unreasonably expensive I look for a secondhand copy. I see that a paperback copy of the Elizabeth Moon book is available for 1p, plus £2.80 p&p. A total of £2.81 feels ok. I've bought several at that price in the last few months.
The John Grisham book I had been waiting 3 years to come down to a reasonable price came down to 99p on kindle a week after I finally found a second hand paperback for £2!I started reading Serial Killers Uncut this week
I have just finished Remnant Population What a dam good story this is. Thoroughly enjoy it each and every time I read it.I wanted a copy of Anne McCafrey's Kilternan Legacy for years after I read it in the library. Years later I found a paperback copy in USA. For months I didn't buy it. I argued with my self it was too dear. I said to myself did I really want it that badly. Well the answer was of course, Yes. So I bit the bullet and splashed out and paid for it. A week or so later it arrived. I seize it and went off to re read it. Two weeks later it was reissued for £4.99. What had I paid ? £40.00! Go figurer.
South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula was the location for this "domestic suspense" novel by Aussie author Dianne Maguire, Things We Cannot See. 3★Important subject about teens and sexual predators written by a former social worker.

Some are e-books and some are scanned PDFs (or both), but the scanned PDFs are lousy on a Kindle. They look fine on a tablet or computer, though.

Thanks for the link, Patty. I'd not heard of the Open Library before. It looks an interesting project.

Just finished Dead Gone
which was very good. I will look for the next in the series at some point.Just started
No Other Darkness over the weekend. This is the second in the series and seems even better than the first. Very good so far.
I've just finished M L Stedman's The Light Between Oceans which I found absolutley stunning. Amazingly it has a few one star reviews! Still, with its Best Seller status I'm not on my own in finding it a fabulous read. http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...

I read loads of Elizabeth Moon, ages ago, but then she switched to fantasy and I lost interest. If she's coming back to SF, I must investigate . . .
I like both the Vatta and the Paksenarrion series, although I didn't pursue the latter through to the Gird stories.Learned an awful lot about the technicalities of wielding a pikestaff.
I find the mechanics of medieval warfare fascinating - and the Leeds Armouries is one of my favourite places to visit.
Read Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Shattered Chain and posted a review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1932490280.
Also started the sequel, Thendara House.
