Finished Merry Christmas Alex Cross last night, not my favourite of his. Now ploughing on with The Dark, before the next two Alex Cross books.
If you like blood and guts I can recommend Rod Glenn's Sinema books. I've read the first and second and have just started on number three. Not for the faint hearted though.Sinema: The Northumberland Massacre
sinema 2 sympathy for the devil
Sinema 3: The Troy Consortium
Just finished How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran, which was often hilarious (My review).Just started Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer.
Just finished The Mote in God's Eye, which was not as good as I remember it from about 30 years ago, but then few things are.Just started The Submissive which is - apparently - about a librarian. Can't wait to see what she thinks of the Dewey Decimal system.

It does bear a remarkable resemblance to the 50 Shades book, but apparently this one came first - as it were.

Get reading Tim.

Yes miss.
Just finished The Heretic by Lucas Bale. It's a very good read and I'm nearly half way through the second of this series. It's getting even better!
I have read Hard Ride #1: A Novel in Three Parts, Hard Ride #2: A Novel in Three Parts, Hard Ride #3: A Novel in Three Parts - Opal Carew, Etta and Otto and Russell and James - Emma Hooper, At His Service: Part 1 and At His Service: Part 2 - Suzanne Rock and I am reading At His Service: Part 3 - Suzanne Rock
Kath wrote: "Just finished The Heretic by Lucas Bale. It's a very good read and I'm nearly half way through the second of this series. It's getting even better!"Where are you getting your reads from, Kath?
You keep talking about authors and books I've never heard of.
Just reviewed Julie Mclaren's latest - a psychological thriller called The Butterfly Effect. It's a real 'who can you trust' dilemma.http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I just (well, yesterday, but I've been busy) finished Top Banana by Kath Middleton, and started Kirk Sandblaster Plays the Game of Yloria by Oli Jacobs. Restoring my indie quotient after a few weeks of not enough reading!
Just finished Fuel to the fire by David Staniforth and just started Wanted by Tim Arnot.I'll be reviewing Fuel a little later today, as soon as I can get a stable connection. So far thought, all I'm willing to say is 'ooo'!
Also just purchased Hunted by Tim Arnot and Ruler's Desire by David Staniforth. Some serious reading going on today, I can tell you!
That's what I love about hols - even though I'm technically on holiday all the time!I've just finished and reviewed Defiance by Lucas Bale. Stonking stuff!

I have finished the whole series of Riding Steele: Kidnapped, Riding Steele: Untamed, Riding Steele: Collide, Riding Steele: Wanted, Riding Steele: Crossroads and Riding Steele: Aftershock - Opal Carew. Which I thoroughly enjoyed. Now I am going to read In the Blood - Lisa Unger for a buddy read with someone off Goodreads.
Just finished Fatherland which was reasonable.Just started Sword Song which is the 4th book in the Saxon series.
Last book I read was by a colleagues (an oncologist) husband who was diagnosed with a brain tumour about 8 months ago and given18 months to live. He has written the book to try and make more money to leave behind for his family (he is not curable unfortunately). He has a very strange sense of humour so the book is surprisingly hilarious in places despite the subject matter! And not so surprisingly some bits very sad!!

Three non-fiction in a row! Just finished Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer. Don't think I'll be buying eggs and dairy for a while. Might have to become vegan.Just started What Do You Do With a Chocolate Jesus?: An Irreverent History of Christianity by Thomas Quinn.

I couldn't read anything that might interfere with my bacon enjoyment.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "I couldn't read anything that might interfere with my bacon enjoyment."Totally give that book a wide berth then, Patti. I'm looking sadly at my vast and beautiful leather shoes collection currently. ...
I've just finished reading Mike Freeman's Rapturous Pejoration, which is the latest in his 'Contact' series and it's a cracking sci-fi read. Check out my review here:

Just finished Sword Song which was the usual sort of Cornwell fare done well.Moved The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao to my Gave Up On folder. Dull, meandering, self-indulgent, tedious.
Just started Looking Good Dead.
I have, but not read, Looking Good Dead. I have also got Dead Simple, so please let me know what you think of Looking Good Dead. I might move it further up the 'must read soon' pile. Happy reading. Colin
Many thanks, Anita, it is good to have a trigger and motivation to help select the next read. I have so many books on my kindle I forget some of them. It was good to see David's message to make me think: 'I'm sure I have that one'. Thanks for your message.
Colin wrote: "I have, but not read, Looking Good Dead. I have also got Dead Simple, so please let me know what you think of Looking Good Dead. I might move it further up the 'must read soon' pile. Happy reading...."I read Dead Simple and really liked it a lot, which is why I'm reading LGD now.
That's brilliant, David. It is always great to get a recommendation on a book. I will move those two up the virtual pile. Many thanks.
Just finished The 90-Day Novel: Unlock the story within, which was a pretty good book on doing the writing stuff. I didn't do the 90 day thing, of course, but just read it for what I could learn from it.I don't think I learnt much that was new, but it did confirm a lot of the things I've read elsewhere.
I think what you do learn from reading a lot of writing books is there are certain things that are common to many of the books, ideas, tips, techniques and so on (even though they are often called by different names in the various books) and if you can absorb these things, then you can make progress.
Just startedFiction Unboxed.
Just started re-reading Nicci french and started with Losing You, which I thought was brilliant. I read it all in just one day, and couldn't put it down!! Just started the next - Until It's Overwhich I'm having the same problem with. shame it's a work day today.
Just finished What Could Possibly Go Wrong..., which was good, but not as good as his non-car review column collections.Just started Britain BC: Life in Britain and Ireland Before the Romans.
Finished Alex Cross, Run. Best Cross book I've read this year, hope the fourth is as good. Next book is the fourth Cross book, next kindle book is Depraved Difference by J Robert Kennedy
Just finished Revival by Stephen King. I maintain that he weaves a story better than anyone alive but he writes some feeble endings. So many times he build and builds and... it's a giant spider, it's a swarm of bees, it's giant ants. Still, he's Stephen King so he can write what he wants. Characters superb, setting superb, plot great, ending a bit daft.
Just started Mark Billingham's From the Dead. Very tidy opening scene and I've enjoyed other books of his that I've read.
Have to do this for my class. I am enjoying it.Just finished
Great adventure story, but more of a man's book I think.
Just finished Paul Levinson's The Plot to Save Socrates which is time-travel, sci-fi, history, philosophy... great stuff!http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Just started Lynda Wilcox's Murder by the Glass Great story and lovely writing style as usual.
I've just read 'The Revelations of Preston Black' by Jason Jack Miller and it is a superb story full of darkness and musical wonders. Check out my review here:

Emma (Em or Emz) wrote: "Last book I read was by a colleagues (an oncologist) husband who was diagnosed with a brain tumour about 8 months ago and given18 months to live. He has written the book to try and make more money ..."I took a look inside and then bought it.
It was funny reading and for a very good cause, so why not :)
and 51 five stars out of 54, can't all be his family :)
Just finished Until It's Overand started What To Do When Someone Diesboth by Nicci French and I'm really enjoying it. I'm so used to reading series books I'd forgotten what it's like to read completely stand alone ones. The story telling is very compelling and psychologically based which I really enjoy. All in the first person too!
Finished Lynda Wilcox's Murder by the Glass - a lovely bit of writing - http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Now reading The Girl on the Train So far - complex but intriguing.

It's been a busy week for reviews - I love it when I get more time than usual for reading! This latest review is for horror fans with Jack Rollins' The Seance: A Gothic Tale of Horror and Misfortune:
