Just finished - just started
I've just finished the rather thrilling Wonders of the Universe by Brian Cox.Fancied a 'gritty thriller.' Google suggested The Spy Who Came In from the Cold by John le Carré. So, I'm going with that.

Ooh er ... Stephen King? He's proper *scary,* isn't he? ...
No! Oh, grief. Poor guy has been so pigeon holed. :(His latest is a rather formulaic thriller but with that Sai King way of using every word to its fullest potential.
I hope you read and enjoy it even half as much as I, Natasha.Read the look inside. If it doesn't get ya, then fair nuff. :)
just finished reading Sovereign by Cj Sansom the 3rd book in the Shardlake series and I loved it. now reading the novelisation of Broadchurch... I seem to be the only person who didn't watch it when it was on the gogglebox last year. enjoying it so far.

Shardlake is brilliant!
I've not seen Broadchurch either. Can't settle into a book at the moment so I'm gonna read some novellas. Won't have much reading time in the next few weeks.
I've just finished reading David Haynes's collection of ghost stories A Gathering of Ghosts and it's worth reading for 'The Last Waltz' alone - a sublime story!

And at only 77p (99c) there's no excuse not to give it a try! It's a definite must read for fans of Victorian horror and ghost stories.
I'm now onto some science fiction with The Engineer Reconditioned by Neal Asher.
Just finished the novilisation of Broadchurch and really enjoyed it. i never saw the Tv show so came to this with no idea about the plot and was gripped. now reading White Lies by he who must not be named...
Just got sent Swamp Bones: A Novella, will read that tonight, half-way through Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies taking much longer than I anticipated
Just started, though I'm a quarter way in already, DragonFly by Charles A. Cornell. I think he's a Goodreads author. It's excellent so far, a Second World War alternative reality scifi/fantasy - is this diesel punk? Not sure, but I'm really enjoying it.
I'm reliving some books I read when I was younger - The White Mountainsis the first of the Tripods collection and I loved that series. It is YA but enjoying it so far. This version has a preface from the author talking about his experiences publishing - even by then he had 20 plus books to his name but still ended up rewriting most of book I and half of book II before the publisher would take it. Liking a lot so far.:)
Just finished DragonFly which I thoroughly enjoyed - and yes, apparently it is indeed dieselpunk. The aerial combat scenes and simple flying scenes were particularly good. No time to read anything else for three weeks till I get my own book out ...

I really should sort out where I stopped in the Prey series.
I've just finished reading Neal Asher's novella and short stories The Engineer Reconditioned and it's a fine sci-fi read. You can read my review here:

I'm now onto The Heretic and I'm liking it so far.
Just finished George Hamiton's book The Disease. Excellent stuff -http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
I've never read any Neal Asher, but I see his books about a lot. Any suggestion for a good place to start?
Tim wrote: "I've never read any Neal Asher, but I see his books about a lot. Any suggestion for a good place to start?"The book I just reviewed is a good place to start as it introduces some of his main concepts.
Think I might try The Skinner cos it's got whisper sync for voice, and I quite fancy giving that a try (and the audiobook is only £3.49 when you buy the Kindle edition!)
Thanks to travelling, I've read a few this week. I decided to stop reading Stealing Flowers, I got 18% in and realised I didn't care about the characters. Then read Lilies, I liked the concept and would have liked to have seen this as a longer book.
Whispers in the Shadows Vol II, not sure why I read Vol 2 before 1, but hey ho. As usual with short story collections, some were good, some were OK and some were poor. Will read Vol 1 though.
Knighthorse, didn't like it as much as his vampire series, and there were the odd mistake that distracted you.
Now reading The Death Trip, really thought provoking. 67% in.
just finished Natural Causes by James Oswald. really enjoyed this. it's a crime thriller but with supernatural elements. Not sure what to read next:..

I'm beta reading a novel for a fellow writer and it is wonderful. The writing is stunning - beautiful. I'm struggling to find the words how in awe I am.
You'll have to tell us the details when it's published, Bob. I'm beta-reading two book, one in the day and one in the evening!
I have just finished Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies, still planning on reading all of his books but need to finish another one on my Kindle Fire first, now reading The Strangled Queen on my Kindle for PC
I've just finished reading The Heretic by Lucas Bale and it's a stunning sci-fi adventure:

I'm now onto How Not to Self-Publish - The Totally Splendid Hotshot Author’s Survival Guide by Rosen Trevithick and it's amusing me in a good way so far :-)
Just finished The Lazarus Prophecy very interesting read but thought the ending was very rushed. Now starting A Man Called Ove both books from Net Gallery
I have just finished Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, what a weird interesting book, now going to read the next one Hollow City, which was on Goodreads books of 2014 so far.
Just finished The Long War which, like the first one, was okay, but nothing special.Just started Mr. Mercedes, which - so far -
seems most satisfactory.
I've just finished reading Rosen Trevithick's funny and useful How Not to Self-Publish - The Totally Splendid Hotshot Author’s Survival Guide and it's a must read for indie authors and readers alike:

I'm now onto 'Zero' by J. S. Collyer.
Just finished Operation Mincemeat: How a Dead Man and a Bizarre Plan Fooled the Nazis and Assured an Allied Victory which was most excellent.
Finished The Spy Who Came In from the Cold by John le Carré, which was alright. I'll treat myself to Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King instead at some point :-)Read The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Hmmm. Whatever.
Accidentally read a couple of erotic short stories (MF and MMF). Nuff sed.
Just started Candide by Voltaire.
Read a couple of shorts this week, The Death Trip, only recommended if you are fine with reading about euthanasia. I found it very thought provoking. Then read Spikebreaker not as keen on this, found it quite confusing. Got 150 pages into The Sleeping Doll
While on Holiday I've just read
and Looking for trouble. If you haven't read this trilogy you really must :-)
I have just finished The Strangled Queen (well that series of books has gone downhill fast) and A Man Called Ove (my book of 2014 so far, cannot recommend it enough)Now reading The Maze Runner and Gray Redemption
Just finished Lunar Park. The beginning was good, but it became pretty convoluted later on. Next up is Breakfast at Tiffany's: And Three Stories.
