Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments That's decided it then. The author came from my home town too, and I love canoeing and spending time on the river, so I've been meaning to read it for years but it's one of those which keeps slipping through the net.
Just started Three Men in a Boat

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson. What a gorgeous book.

Just started The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda, which I first read in 1998.

I'd also recommend Three Men on the BummelIt's a little darker in places, especially where he discusses duelling, but still a good read

Thank you!

I've just finished Bloody Mary by JA Konrath - a bloody mystery thriller that's still light due to a good dose of humour.

This is one of the few books which has made me laugh out loud! Two of my favourite scenes are near the beginning where Jerome reads the medical dictionary and later on when he has a fight with the kettle.

I'm reading Kane and Abel which I'm finding quite gripping. I'm not much of a fan of Archer's writing though, good story but not a lot of depth to it.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm now reading the latest of the Verity Long books by Lynda Wilcox Scouting For Murder. I really enjoy Lynda's sense of humour and the 'will she, won't she' business with Inspector Farish. She'd better!

I've read Three Men in a Float Across England at 15 mph by Dan Kieran
Three Men in a Float: Across England at 15 mph and this was very funny and probably in the same vein..... so you may want to read this when you've finished the Boat one!

message 5912: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished and enjoyed Kane and Abel, needed something to cheer me up again afterwards and so am now reading Mr Splendiferous and the Troublesome Trolls which is the perfect contrast!

:0)

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Very good book Kane and Abel - I like Jeffrey Archer as an author - I've read quite a few of his now. Waiting for the next in line from the Clifton Chronicles saga - anyone know when it's out?

I'm onto The Dark Victorian: Risen Volume One

message 5918: by Linda (new)

Linda | 2 comments Finished The Boy from Hell: Life with a Child with ADHD written by a mum who fought hard to get the best for her child, academically and mentally. Good tips and practical advice given in it too.

Just started The Line, the Itch and the Rabbit Hole

The quiet American.

Somehow, it still seems relevant today.

I've just finished reading Mr Splendiferous and the Troublesome Trolls and loved it! Enjoyed it even more than the first one! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Splendiferous...

Now reading Mourning Doves which is still free. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mourning-Dove...

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Scouting For Murder. Fantastic read! Just started one by a new author whose book isn't on here - Julie McLaren, The Music of the Spheres. Very funny and I'm enjoying it a great deal. Might add it here later.

message 5923: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished reading Mourning Doves which I enjoyed but the ending was too abrupt. Interesting subject matter though, I had never realised before that the upbringing of middle and upper class women at the time (1920's) left them totally dependant on the men in their lives and cut adrift when those men were killed in the war.

Now I'm reading A Woman of Substance, I started to read the sequel first as it was free yesterday, but it's so long since I watched the series on tv (never read the book before) that I decided to buy this one and read it first! http://www.amazon.co.uk/A-Woman-of-Su...

interesting, as I read it years ago and mum's just had it as a talking book, but she got bored half way thru!

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I'm coming up to the finale of The Music of The Spheres by Julie McLaren. It's very funny, but doesn't seem to be GR. I think Ignite is reading this too.

I've only just started so can't comment much yet, however, I did notice that some of the reviews were complaining that there was too much description and that they got bored and skipped bits. Not sure whether I will or not yet, am enjoying it so far but haven't even finished the first chapter yet!

Just started The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year by Sue Townsend. Not sure if it's going to be my cup of tea, but I love the title.

I'm quite partial to a Dick Francis occasionally. Rat race is one of my favourites.

message 5943: by [deleted user] (new)

Wodehouse, one of the few authors who can make me laugh out loud. I embarrassed my hubby once whilst we were sitting in wetherspoons waiting for our car at the garage, I was reading one of the Blandings novels and couldn't stop laughing.

Glad you enjoyed Death to love too.
I've just finishedCorvus: A Life with Birds, which was a delight - as well as thought-provoking and educational. I certainly have more respect for magpies now.

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Read in a couple of hours Susie Orbach On Eating. Enjoyed. Good advice.

Still reading The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda.

And halfway through 1979: A Big Year in a Small Town by Rhona Cameron. This could be the funniest book I have ever read, possibly because she has lived my life as far as teenage lesbian stalking of teachers is concerned, and is mercilessly witty about the experience.
