Calico Bride (Love Inspired Historical) by Jillian Hart

Meet Burke Hannigan, hero from Calico Bride by Jillian Hart.

1. Burke, tell me the most interesting thing about you.

I've just accepted a new job in the town of Angel Falls, Montana Territory. Shh--I'm undercover. I really work for the territorial marshal and I'm investigating the town sheriff. Seems it's likely he rigged the election and now he's causing a lot of folks some real harm. That's where I step in. I intend to befriend him and learn all his secrets so I can bring justice to the good folks of Angel Falls.

2. What do you do for fun?

My life has been real serious for about as far back as I can remember. I took a wrong turn in the road of life when I was in my teens and I've done all I can ever since to make up for it. That means all work, no play, with my eye on redemption--if a man like me can ever be forgiven, that is. But lately I've been having more fun than I deserve with a pretty chestnut-haired lady who makes me laugh. That Lila Lawson--she is one fantastic gal.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Thinking about the past. In fact, if it wasn't for a couple of bullet wounds and an infection that brought on a raging fever, I wouldn't have had those nightmares that brought up my past all over again--the night our house caught fire when I was a tot and my entire family perished. I was all that was left.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

I used to be afraid I might never be able to make things right--to make up for the wrongs I've done. But lately I fear something more. I would give my life to keep pretty Lila Lawson safe.

5. What do you want out of life?

I wish there was a way for me to deserve Lila's love.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Lila. Her happiness is all that will ever matter to me.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

I'm hooked on dime novels. Give me a tough western hero out to fight crime, and I‘m happy. Nothing passes the time like a good adventure novel.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

That I had been smart enough to stand up for myself, done the right thing no matter how tough, and stayed on the straight and narrow.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

My horse is my best friend.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I would want to go back to see my family the way they were, when they were alive. I would like to hear the rumble of my pa's laughter, feel the touch of my ma's hand ruffling my hair and to hear my sister's happy chatter. Just to see them again, one more time.

Judy For those who have not read this yet. It is a really good book and you may want some kleenex handy. And maybe a punching bag when you meet Lila's step-mom.

message 3: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (JillianHart) Judy--you are so nice. Thanks for you kind words. LOL re the punching bag .

message 4: by Judy (new)

Judy You probably had to find a way to relax your jaw just writing about that obnoxious woman!

message 5: by Ausjenny (new)

Ausjenny | 517 comments I love Burkes interview. I loved the book to but didn't need the kleenex.

message 6: by Judy (new)

Judy Oh no, that could mean its me getting all weepy in my old age. I will just go off and cry about that too I s'pose

message 7: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (JillianHart) Judy--LOL. Hugs to you, you weeper . Mrs. Lawson has a touch of my mother in her .

Ausjenny--that's so nice of you. : ) How are you feeling?

message 9: by Ausjenny (new)

Ausjenny | 517 comments Sorry Judy it takes a bit to make me cry.
feeling so so. I think im about 90%. Im eating again but things like chocolate turn me off. I had a couple of mums and really didn't like them much and I was a chocoholic! I am trying to eat better eating a little meet and salad of course Im fussy but I love beetroot and tomatoes although tomatoes cost the earth in winter.
going to add pineapple today. So definately much better than I was. I have the energy to do things and am enjoying the weight loss!

message 10: by Judy (new)

Judy I think I have been getting into the books more lately as the emotions have been stronger. I always did "see" the books but lately it seems stronger. Like being on the ship and feeling and seeing everything from the deck.

message 11: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (JillianHart) Hugs, Barb. : )

Ausjenny--glad you are feeling better. Gasp. No chocolate? So not fair.

Judy--I get that way when I read sometimes too. It's almost as if I'm in the book, and I look up and think, oh, I'm at home

message 12: by Ausjenny (new)

Ausjenny | 517 comments Jillian Chocolate is over rated! well I am happy cos its my addiction so it may help keep weight off not eating it.

message 13: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (JillianHart) LOL--I have a chocolate addiction, too .

message 14: by Judy (new)

Judy I read a book recently where she added chocolate to everything. Even powdered chocolate in her coffee.

Okay can any author identify that book as hers so my brain don't go in overload thinking.

Jillian (JillianHart) ::Waving back to Kim:: Great to see you here. : )

message 17: by Judy (new)

Judy With 1 to 2 books a day and this book in the last month I just can't place the chocolate person but now I have to know.

message 18: by Judy (new)

Judy Figured it out:
Hearts Under Construction by Diann Hunt. Ellie (main female Character) even had a mug that said "Hand over your chocolate and no one will get hurt"

It was a really good book too.

Bahahahaha! I totally talked back to her, but she didn't hear me! And, i believe I almost threw the book across the room in disgust, but realized I would like to have my book nice and pretty before I actually did it!

ME TOO!!

message 21: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (texasaggieteacher) | 434 comments Don't feel bad Judy! I cried too! But, I am a softy, so I cry if the story pulls out some sort of emotion out of me! Heck, I just admitted to almost chunking my book across the room, so you know I am an emotional person! lol, and I can't blame my age(28)

message 22: by Judy (new)

Judy For those who have not read this book yet and like series that have the same people.... I think these books all flow together:
Homespun Bride & High Country Bride- they introduce the McKaslin brothers. They have a younger brother, Finn, who appears in the B&B books. And then of course Gingham Bride and then Patchwork Bride are the first two in the series. I'm ready for the book after Calico Bride now... Waiting Waiting is it here yet? :-)

message 23: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (JillianHart) Jennifer--LOL re talking back to the step mom. Funny!

Judy--you're right. I put a glimpse of every heroine from all my other LIHs in Calico Bride as store customers. It was so, so fun to write everyone in at least one scene, shopping away. Finn McKaslin shows up in the Buttons & Bobbins stories, but will he end up with Earlee in the final book? Ooh, it's a mystery. : )

LOL--Judy, Ruby's story is out in November. Snowflake Bride. But then I'm taking a break from writing historicals, so it will be a long, long spell before Scarlet's. Shrugging. : )

message 24: by Judy (new)

Judy I have to wait all the way until November? humph!

I love the name. I have it on my want list that and Mail-Order Christmas Brides & Snowflakes and Stetsons.

message 25: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (JillianHart) LOL. With the way time is going, we'll blink and--ta duh--it'll be November

You're too sweet, Judy. : )

Don't torture us like that! lol He better end up with her...although knowing you, you might just have a distraction in another suitor for her to go along with that story! lol

message 27: by Judy (new)

Judy Early is one of those characters that pulls on the heartstrings. She is the poorest it seems and she's always busy with her younger siblings yet such a sweet heart. I have some ideas from Calico Bride about Finn and prison..... but I won't blow it for anyone else :-)

Judy I think we will be Jennifer :-) BTW- our son turned 27 today. I feel old (ok I am old!). He came down from the Grand Canyon to spend a few days here. He is taking our other son, Josiah who is 18, back up with him for a few days. Sadly our older son has drifted from the Lord but I believe he will come back one day. At least he still loves and respects us.
