Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 19 comments Hello, I'm Suzie (some of you will know me from another group) and I'm here because I don't think I have read a Stephen King book, but would like to read his recommendations. Or, just add them to my wish list, let them sit there a while, then dive in with gusto (or a more sedate pace).

Hey Suzie. Dig right in and pick out something you'd like to read. I'm sure King has recommended something you'll like.

And welcome aboard, Kaitlin! Hope you like it here.

That's what I'm hoping Debra - I need to have a browse of your shelf! I have already added a King book due to this group

11/22/63 so I may tackle that first :o)

I'm here because I'm such a big SK fan! I wasn't a book reader when I was a kid, then out of the blue, I said "why not?"

Istarted browsing through books at the local drug store and I spoted a used hard cover of Misery at a very low price and the rest is history!

Misery was the first novel I've ever read and King was My first Author. Misery remains one of my favorite novels ever.

message 264: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Stultz (wicketwillowbean) | 1 comments My name is Elizabeth and I'm 24 years old. I live in Kentucky (Louisville, to be precise). I have a BA in psychology and did two minors in English with a concentration in literature and Medieval Studies. I studied French for 5 years and have experience with Japanese, German, and Latin. One of my dreams is to translate Medieval Latin and French manuscripts. The other is to eventually become an archaeologist.

Currently, I work with toddlers as a teacher in a daycare. It's not exactly my dream job, or the best use of my degree, but it works for now. I am going back to school in August to work towards a degree in education so that I can become a third grade teacher. I also plan on doing another major in either microbiology or anthropology. I do enjoy some aspects of my job such as being able to teach my children and the joy that I receive when they finally catch on to what I've taught them. I also enjoy the smiles, hugs, and kisses that I get from my kids when I come to work in the mornings.

I am an avid reader and have been since I was a child. I generally read anything except westerns, romance, and inspirational/Christian books. I quite enjoy horror, fantasy, historical fiction, and mysteries. I have also gotten into the Quirk classics recently. Right now, I am reading Android Karenina. Classic literature is another favorite of mine with Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, HP Lovecraft, Victor Hugo, and Gaston LeRoux being among my favorites.

I look forward to making new friends and taking part in book discussions.

-Elizabeth

Rodney Evans (rodneyevans) | 4 comments Hi. Not long ago I completed The Gunslinger. After years of picking up SK books, the Gunslinger was my first. I'm not ashamed to say I'm hooked.

Right now I'm nearing the climax of "Under the Dome". For a million reasons, SK rocks.

I also like the works of Ira Levin and Ruth Rendell, but King is my favourite overall.
He compelled me to want to write myself...

Wow, Daniel, I'm so jealous about your trip to Bangor. And all the way from Brazil! Did you get to meet SK? I really want a chance to meet him someday, but it's not likely. He's not touring like he used to.

Anyway, welcome to the group. Feel free to start on our current group read, Fear the Worst.

It is a wonderful, beautiful and unusual country to live in. You'd love it. Feel very blessed, though I would love to travel the world, and have a little.
Auckland is a interesting city!!

message 282: by Lisa Marie (new)

Lisa Marie | 1 comments Hi there! I'm Lisa, originally from
Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. I grew up only 1 and 1/2 hours drive from SK's home in Bangor, Maine. I've been a fan since I was old enough to sneak his stuff out of the library - Carrie was my first. I see a few mentions of Gillian Flynn above. Stephen King has endorsed her work and I wholeheartedly agree - I would strongly suggest Gone Girl, Dark Places, and Sharp Objects. Happy Reading!! Lisa :)

Hi Lisa. We always welcome Stephen King fans with open arms! And I agree with you about Gillian Flynn; have read all her books and can't wait for more!

message 284: by Ariel (new)

Ariel Horn (arielchorn) | 3 comments Hi, my name is Ariel. I joined this group because I became inspired to read and write more after reading On Writing. I noticed his recommended reading list at the back of the book, it was only from the last 2 years or so, and I wanted to know where I could find more. So here I am.

message 285: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 2574 comments Mod
We are happy to have another dedicated King fan, Ariel. My sai-king-recommends shelf has all the On Writing recommendations, plus those from King's other non-fiction, plus MORE! lol Welcome to the group!

Olivia "So many books--so little time."" | 3 comments Hi! I joined this group because Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. I figure anything King recommends has got to be good.

Welcome to the group, Olivia. We are voting on our next group read, so check out the poll and place your vote by Sunday. Hope you can join us!

message 288: by Jo Ann (new)

Jo Ann Hi my name is Jo Ann and I currently live in Indiana. Me and Stephen King have a sort of love/hate relationship (lol.) I read a lot of King as a teenager but now as an adult our bond has cooled somewhat. I blame that more on myself as I get older my preferences have been changing. But I still respect him as a writer and I do value his opinions on books.

message 289: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 2574 comments Mod
Hi Jo Ann! Welcome to the group. Hope you find something here you will enjoy reading! I hear what you're saying about SK, but I'm a die-hard fan thru and thru. But you don't have to be a big fan to enjoy some of the books he's read and recommended.

message 290: by Tara (new)

Tara Riley (terrorrose) I am always looking for SK recommendations, especially since he quit his EW magazine column! I have LOOOOVED most every book he suggests! And now I am rapidly reading all Joe Hill too!

message 291: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 2574 comments Mod
Hey Tara, welcome aboard. I agree with you about the EW magazine thing. I wish he was still doing that, or something like it.

message 292: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (bookswithbrookes) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm Jennifer from Texas. I'm trying to become more active on Goodreads, it's an amazing site and naturally I had to join groups dedicated to my favorite writer. I've been reading Stephen King since I was 9 and would borrow my older sister's books and that's how I became hooked on King. I've read a few authors that he has mentioned within his books and liked them, so I think this group is a great idea. Can't wait to discover my next favorite book.

message 298: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Janz (jonathanjanz) | 23 comments Hey, everyone! My name is Jonathan Janz, and I'm here because a) Stephen King is my favorite author, b) he's the reason I'm a reader, and c) he's the reason I'm a writer. I won't annoy you by talking about my work, but you can find out about it by clicking on my profile.

Forty of the first forty-one books I read were by Stephen King. No joke. After that, about the time I was a freshman in college, I decided to branch out. So like many of you (I'd wager) I began to read books from the Appendix at the end of Danse Macabre. That list is what really opened doors for me as a reader. And I've never looked back.

That's why I'm here! :-)

Hey, Jonathan! So glad to have you with us. That is amazing how your read SK first and then branched out to his recommendations. This is definitely the group for you! Hope to see you in a group read discussion. You've got time to join in on NOS4A2 which is our group read for July through August 31st.

BTW, I think you are a talented writer! I plan on reading more of your books.
