Introduce Yourself and Tell Us Why You Are Here

I'm a self-labelled Bibliomaniac, somewhat of a collector and have been one of Uncle Stevie's Constant Readers practically from the time he first published. I'm old enough to have read most of his work as it was released. My daughter and I got to attend his promotional talk in Sarasota when UTD came out, and we were able to get two signed copies of that one. I have the Gunslinger series in Grants' Artist Edition as well as 1st Trade editions, and probably all of his better known work, as well as quite a few of his short stories/novellas in general anthologies, etc. Much of what I have is unread; as a Librarian, it is usually easy to acquire a reading copy. I've read myself to sleep nearly every night of my life, a habit I started about the time I learned to read.
I am a Reference Librarian for Citrus County, FL & have worked at FSU's Library Science Library and the State Library of FL. My first career was an auto and motorcycle mechanic. I became what they politely referred to as a "non-traditional student", aka old College Student. I was over 50 when I took my degrees.
I just did a short review of Dream Makers II, focusing on King's interview. See that review for some of his favored authors (and a couple DIS-favored) in May, 1982. Is there an appropriate thread here for me to post that review?
Personal stuff:
I'm the proud single Dad of Lisa-Marie, who will be taking her AA Degree next Semester, then continuing her education, probably at UF. I am a "dog person", involved in dog rescue. See http://www.saintkarmasdogrescue.org/
I currently have four dogs - two available for adoption - and have had up to seven at one time. I also do obedience training.
And now . . . off to read :) I'm glad to have found this Group.
Hey Tom! Great to see you here. We've already discussed our shared interest in collecting books. You have an impressive library and impressive history, PLUS volunteer service!
I guess the best place for your review would be in our discussion section titled "Stephen King THE Man." Just create a new thread there for it. I'm looking forward to reading it.
Welcome aboard!
Debra

I’m a newspaper editor and publisher; also a publicist and winner of more than a dozen business and book writing awards. In 2008 I was a finalist for an Eppie Award for his non-fiction e-book: “Self-Promotion for Authors.”
I am also the author of two fiction book series: INSIDE STORY, tales of a team of investigative reporters, and ESCape Into History about time travelers who to record historic events as they actually happened and ensure that history is unaltered by outside influences. He’s also working on two additional fiction manuscripts of events in differing time periods.
Earlier in my career I put in 14 years experience as a senior public relations executive in the development and implementation of successful, goal-oriented communications and marketing support programs for major national corporations. I wrote the first public relations program for Coleco’s Cabbage Patch Kids and that program subsequently won the Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America. The Silver Anvil is recognized as the most prestigious award in public relations. I also was founding editor of another weekly newspaper in northern New Jersey and is the former editor of Funeral Monitor, a weekly newsletter for the deathcare industry.
Earlier experience includes 12-years as a skilled radio and daily newspaper editor and reporter for major media outlets in New Jersey, New England and Europe. I also published and edited a weekly newspaper serving Northern Ocean and Southern Monmouth Counties in New Jersey.

I see we have gotten a few more members and wanted to welcome them, even though they haven't spoken up, yet. WELCOME ABOARD EVERYONE!

I am a writer and archaeologist and broadcaster in the UK on BBC, Channel 4, five, Nat Geo and Discovery.
My first novel Drusilla Blood, A gripping occult thriller where the past and present weave together in a tale of passion, intrigue, murder and the supernatural, has just gone up on Amazon. So quite an exciting time.

Hey Tracy:
Sorry I'm so late is welcoming you! I didn't see a notification that someone had made a comment here.
Sounds like we both like the same kind of books, and, of course, are big King fans.
We are going to be reading The Store by Bentley Little for our group from Aug-Sep 2012. He's a great horror writer. It would be great if you could join in on the discussion.
Anyway, welcome aboard!

I checked my library system and they do not have The Store. I will try to track down a copy. I have not read any of his books before and would like to. I have discovered so many great authors since joining Goodreads.
You might try Amazon. They have used copies for 1 penny plus $3.99 shipping. That's $4 for a book. Not too bad, eh?
Hope you can join us!

I'm here to make my 'Stand' and stay just ahead of 'It' because 'Cujo' is tracking me down....hardy har har. Really I am pumped to be here and hear what the Master has to say on a regular basis. Thanks for the invite Debra!

Hi Connie! I'm so glad you accepted my invitation. I'm going to be sending out a message to everyone telling them more about our Aug-Sep group read. Hope you will be able to join us!

Ask you Library to do an Interlibrary Loan for you. Especially if you love (NOT) Walmart, you'll like this one.

And now I get to call YOU evil. Hehehe!

Hey Amanda!
Great to have you here. We are currently doing our August 1st-September 30th group read of Bentley Little's The Store. Everyone seems to be enjoying this unique horror story. Come join us if you have the time and inclination!

Welcome, Rohit. Although most of are fans of Stephen King and his books, this is a group for reading other authors and books that Stephen King has read himself and recommended others read. Just wanted to clarify that, and welcome you aboard.

Wonderful, Jana. I will be setting up the discussion threads for Infinite Jest as soon as I have the book in hand. I'm so happy others are excited about it. Welcome to the group!

I'm Michelle and obviously a SK fan or I wouldn't be here, right? I "know" some of you from YLTO. I haven't been in the discussions for that group much once they stopped having monthly group reads but the good news is it lead me to this group.
Hey Michelle. Glad to see you here. You know, YLTO is doing group reads again. You might want to come check next month's out. Anyway, welcome to OUR group! lol

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to discussing the group reads in this group with you.
Hi Louise:
Welcome to the group. I have heard similar things about how King is so great with charities and supporting Maine communities. He IS just a regular guy, when people let him alone. I'd love to visit there and see his home.
