From the look of the budgie-smugglers, I'd have to say 'yes'.

It's only a matter of time, GL.

You should ALWAYS ask for the reviews. It should encourage writers to write more. I don't think readers think all that much about the writers; that's the problem.

Thanks Alicia. I guess there's no real reason why readers should think of the writers. It's just that, as independent authors, we're basically a cottage industry and need all the help we can get!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Philip wrote: "we're basically a cottage industry and need all the help we can get!"

Yes, and the public doesn't realize this yet.

Tell them exactly what you told me, in a helpful chipper tone, and their eyes will brighten with intelligence (readers are intelligent) and understand.

The big publishers certainly aren't going to educate our readers; we have to do it ourselves.

As writers, we should be able to make the requests with the best possible nuance - and a smile - to gently educate the readers we have. Until such time that they all know.

It takes work. I spend a lot of time phrasing things just right when I ask for a favor - and still feel a bit like I'm begging, cap in hand.

But if the store owner of a pastry shop I had just gotten a great croissant from, for example, said, "You could help me stay in business to keep making them," and suggested how to leave a review, I would at least consider it.

And I keep reminding myself I am not begging: I am asking for something perfectly reasonable from someone who has already indicated they are favorable to me and my product.

That, and "Please tell your friends." Reasonable requests.

I think it's more the wasps of writing. I've often been accused of being waspish ;-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I have my can of wasp spray out and ready.

I promise not to fly near you, but please, please, let me continue to be waspish in writing. It's about the only fun I have.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments All right, I will stay my spray.

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments More from the undertakers, where Lawrence falters, Chantelle tries to judge between the quick and the dead, and Josiah learns something to his disadvantage.
