Philip Whiteland - the man behind Josiah and Archibald (which makes it sound like we're in a queue!)
I haven't had an advent calender since I was a child. It never occurs to me. Anyway, my christmas will be the first weekend in january when I visit my parents.

Still working my way through my Alter-Nativity! There's a new chapter written and waiting to be published by the Derby Telegraph (I'll let you know when it happens) but here's the shepherds meeting the wise men, but how many are there?http://www.readwave.com/the-king-thin...
The full Alter-Nativity, as it stands at the moment (the fourth part is still languishing on an Editor's desk) is available on my blog until 12th Night. You can start here, if you're so minded:

And an early Happy New Year to everyone here :-)
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Happy New Year to you Philip. Are you well filled with Christmas goodies?"I have added a few pounds, yes GL ;-)
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Rich in years and friendship, then."That's one way of looking at it ;-)
Just shuffling together my articles and blogs for the past 18 months or so to see if I've got enough for a new collection of stories. I have some new stories to write, so there should be enough. Tentative title: 'Giving A Bull Strawberries' :-)
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Sounds like a load of bull to me..."Situation normal then ;-)
I would pay very large sums of money not to go anywhere on a coach. Been there, done that. Won't do it again.
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "A walnut wip? Be careful, Patti goes a bit funny if you mention them..."Ooh, a walnut whip! Haven't had one for years. I thought, with Patti, it was just whips in general ;-)
She thinks they look like a certain part of the male anatomy. I can't see it myself.http://www.mycncuk.com/attachment.php...
Maybe if you took the walnut off the end...

She must know some odd blokes ;-)
I couldn't comment on that. I mean, I am fairly sure she knows plenty of odd blokes, but in that department I know nothing!
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "I couldn't comment on that. I mean, I am fairly sure she knows plenty of odd blokes, but in that department I know nothing!"Well, I'm not claiming to be an expert!
I'm having a bit of a blitz on some reviews for books that I have read over the past few months. Quite enjoying the process but it is going to take some time to catch up :-)
Done it! I'm up to date at last (well, at least with regard to the books I've read in the last 6 months). If you're interested in what I've read and what I've thought about, then take a look:https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "I'm trying to decide if I am interested or not."In which case, the answer is probably "no" ;-)
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Depends how much other more interesting stuff I can find on Youtube."No contest - it'll be the swimming dachshunds then.
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "you wot?"I wasn't expecting such an in-depth response ;-)
I believe it is possible to set your book up on Kindle with a release date at some point in the future whereby people can place pre-orders for your words of wisdom. That's what I was talking about.
Ah, right. Sorry, I was deep in a Time Team about Sheffield and steel, so wasn't focussing my entire attention on your question. Are you asking from the seller point of view? Because if so I can't really contribute anything of value. In which case I will go back to Sheffield.
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Ah, right. Sorry, I was deep in a Time Team about Sheffield and steel, so wasn't focussing my entire attention on your question. Are you asking from the seller point of view? Because if so I can't..."
Well, from both points of view really. Are people really interested in buying pre-release books and, if so, what would pique your interest?
I have pre-ordered books a few times, but only from one of my favourite authors like Terry Pratchett, Anne McCaffrey or Mercedes Lackey. I have pretty much stopped doing it because I want to be more in control of when I buy and where it gets delivered. And sometime I put them on wishlists for birthdays and christmas instead. So put me on the not really interest list. I know other people do it a lot more though.
I used to read a lot of Anne McCaffrey! I'm reading Terry Pratchett's 'A Slip of the Keyboard' at the moment.I take your point. I would think that for an unknown like me there would need to be some real benefit for anyone to consider ordering in advance.
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "Anne McCaffrey lived not far from me. I wish I had realised that before she died."Oh yes, that's a shame.
I read a biography of her recently, and she sounds like a totally lovely person, and very supportive of younger authors.
BTW, I've added a preview to A Kick at the Pantry Door on this site. Never done this before but I thought I would give it a go!
What do we think about this then? This is the prospective cover for the new book due out on 28.03.15:https://www.facebook.com/226321720772...
Gingerlily - Elephant Philosopher wrote: "I don't see any strawberries on the cover. But I'm sure the book is full of top quality bull ;)"You have a way with words, GL ;-)
Just to let you know that the new collection of 'nostalgedy' stories - Giving a Bull Strawberries - is to be released on 28th March and is available for pre-order now at the ridiculous price of just 99p/99c. Why not have a punnet? :-)http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00U654KG4...

There are advantages to living without a TV."
I'm sure there are. How about an Advent Calendar? I've got one of those Jackie Lawson ones on my PC - it's for my grandson, honest!
