I did wonder if its efficacy was waning. Mind you, it has a life of its own ;-)

Yes, it has a tendancy to switch off if you are doing something embarrassing. I know those magic artifacts - they have a vicous streak.

As you'll know from my stories, I never do anything embarrassing.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments My Dad's first new car was a Morris Minor. Midnight Blue though. He got it in 1969 I think, and it served us faithfully for about 8 years before the wheel fell off in transit. He sold the remains, and someone fixed it and used it for several more years.

They did have a worrying tendency to fall apart, but that was true of a lot of British cars of that time.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments There was something about the design of the axle that made it liable to rust I think... I was only 12 at the time so some of the details escaped me

I think there was something about the whole of it that made it susceptible to rust - well mine was anyway!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Build quality + climate perhaps...

One of my dad's later cars had moss growing on the windows.

Thanks GL. Yes, it was getting lonely in the telephone box in which I hold my fan club meetings :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I though telephone boxes were for changing into superman costumes.

I've always wondered about the logic of that. You can see right into them! You might as well change out on the pavement and have done with it. Or is he a bit nesh and wants to avoid the draught?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Maybe he has a window clouding device or something. Or its just the right shape to anchor his transdimensional vortex...

Brylcreem? When did Gerry Anderson's puppets subscribe to Brylcreem?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh. I got the reference wrong. I thought you were talking about early pop stars.

A bit of an update - Now, I'm sure you're all desperate to know how this promotion worked out? Well, not bad at all is the answer. The book made it to #624 in the overall Kindle Free chart, #1 in Humorous Essays and #6 in Biographies and Memoirs. 108 copies were downloaded on the .com site, 66 copies at .co.uk, 3 at .de and 4 at ,ca. My thanks to everyone who shared and tweeted the promotion and to all of you who have downloaded the title. I hope you read and enjoy the stories and would be very grateful indeed for a review.

I'm certain there are a few people out there who are kicking themselves (rather than the pantry door) because they missed out on this bargain. Well, kick no more because, for the rest of April, you can buy this title for the ridiculously cheap price of just 99p or equivalent. You would be mad not to! ;-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Thats good Philip. If I had a pantry door I would go and give it a celebratory kick!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments As it is, I just have to thump the cupboard.

That sounds like a euphemism, doesn't it!
