Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Are you having a sly dig at my picture? ;-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Not at all! I just had a pie myself. Very tasty too...

message 1703: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments I do like a pie

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments chicken and mushroom is my favourite

message 1705: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments More of a meat and potato man, myself. Perhaps this is the answer - free pie with every book!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments pie in the sky?

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Gingerlily - Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish. wrote: "pie in the sky?"

Absolutely, they would be b*gger to deliver via the internet though.

Reminds me of a limerick I once read:

It has long been a mission of mine,
A new value of Pi to assign,
The answer you see,
Is simple, it's 3

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Ohhh - a mathmatical limerick! very clever.

Funny thing was, when I googled to find a pie picture, in the middle of them was a picture of someone doing exercises. Must have been pie-lates...

Oh dear! The limerick's not one of mine, I'm afraid. I can't write them. I did, however, as a teenager memorise loads but, apart from that one, they're mostly obscene :-)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Ok, so who fancies winning a signed, print edition of Steady Past Your Granny's? These are rarer than hen's teeth, so you'll be the envy of all your friends (ask Patti, she's got one!)

Simply DM the answer to this cryptic clue to me. If more than one correct answer, the first out of the hat at midnight on Friday, 11th October wins the prize:

Modest? Confused by the girl who reads the news but leaves out the South-East.

Hint: Religious personage connected with Burton upon Trent

Ok, ok, try not to get too excited. I know that this and Lotto on one day may be a little too much for the easily excited amongst you ;-)

Completely bowled over by the enormous wave of apathy that greeted this contest ;-)

You have until midnight tonight to win a signed print copy of Steady Past Your Granny's

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I wouldn't mind winning the book, but I have no idea of the answer to your question.

Not a cryptic clue person then, GL?

message 1720: by Philip (new)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Not really - unless they are fairly easy.

That is a good review. :)

Here's a clue then, Burton has a founding Saint

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Is it just me or has anyone else experienced a serious downturn in sales over the past few months? It's been getting progressively worse, month by month, and this month is the worst ever (but, then again, I thought that about last month and was wrong)

message 1724: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Quick quiz: Fancy winning a copy of the latest collection of 'nostalgedy' stories A Kick at the Pantry Door by Philip Whiteland ? Just DM me the name of the dog in Three Men in a Boat. First correct answer wins :-)

message 1725: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Given the less than overwhelming response to the quick quiz (but well done GL), I thought I'd change the name of this topic to something more appropriate ;-)

It's no joke either - it's full of nutty slack!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oops, did I put you in the bathroom?

Apparently!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'll send someone down to let you out. I need to feed the furnace anyway...

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments There's three blokes called Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego down here who want a word with you.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Can you see any lions hanging about, I might need them soon.

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Second bite at the cherry! Answer this question (via DM) for a free copy of A Kick at the Pantry Door by Philip Whiteland : What does the 'K' in Jerome K Jerome stand for?

message 1737: by David (new)

David Hadley I know the answer to that, but I already have the book - and intend to read it one day.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I know it too, but I better let someone else have a chance.

message 1739: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Very noble of you both :-)

message 1740: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments No takers on the Jerome K Jerome question?

That is the funniest bit of a very good book. I laughed until the tears ran down my face.

message 1743: by David (new)

David Hadley True, I re-read it for the umpteenth time a few months ago and that bit still got me. I must reread Three Men on the Bummel soon too. Gutenberg have some others of his too, that I intend having a go with.

I first read TMIAB when I was in my teens and have loved it ever since. I remember being a bit disappointed with Three Me on the Bummel at the time, but I must revisit it.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I read Three Men on the Bummel years before I even knew of Three Men in a Boat. My mum had it and she is german and loved the book. Its an ancient hardback version, which I still have - its about 3 feet away from me as I type. Its dated September 1940. I wonder if its worth anything?

message 1746: by David (new)

David Hadley I think I've only ever read Bummel once, but from what I remember of it, I thought it was nearly as good as TMIAB.
