Thanks very much to those who kindly 'Liked' my Facebook page and brought the total up to 30. For those who were wondering what special powers this has now conferred, I can exclusively tell you that I now have a nifty little graph that doesn't appear to tell me anything. I'm trying not to get too excited.
Patti (Free Bird) wrote: "I hope I didn't startle him too much..."It doesn't take a lot, Patti!
I really hope I'm doing the right thing in publishing this ;-)
Patti (Free Bird) wrote: "I'm confident you are. :)"I've got my fingers crossed. Makes it a devil to type though ;-)
IT'S AUGUST! So it's JAMBALAYA month. Counting down the days now to publication on 30th.Spent the last few days going through the text with a fine toothcomb (which makes a mess of the laptop). As it has been a few years now since I last read the MS all the way through, it has been quite a revelation. From time to time I've thought 'I know what joke I would put in here now' and have been relieved to find that I've already done it. However, one joke did catch me off guard and made me laugh out loud. I can't remember writing it, but I'm pleased I did. Is it a sign of madness to start laughing at your own jokes?
I really must be more careful. I was nearly crushed by the wave of excitement the above generated ;-)
Well the wave has to draw back before it can rush forwards. . . I am really looking forward to reading it, but life gets in the way occasionally, and I wasnt able to give your announcement the attention it deserved. And Patti is missing in Azerbajain. . .

My university teaches in Azerb..., I've always resisted the temptation to go there.
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "Well you can go now and visit Patti. She can play the piano for you."I think I'll give it a miss, thanks! BTW thanks for commenting on Amazoo.
"Richard looked longingly into Celany’s eyes as the goat urinated softly on the marigolds."There's only one place you're going to find lines like this:

Thanks Patti and I'm really glad that it's going well for you. I guess I'm just not one of life's intrepid travellers ;-)

Well, that makes two of us, Emma. We'll have to see if it's infectious ;-)
Emma (Emz) wrote: "Yay! Getting close :-)"Emma - I'm sure I've asked you this before, but I can't find the answer. I'm putting together the title page for Jambalaya and I obviously want to credit your cover illustration. Is there a website or anything you would like me to include?
Emma (Emz) wrote: "No, thanks though Philip. Don't have a website, blog or anything!"what about the new naughty stuff you are going to write?
Philip wrote: "Ok, so just a credit on the title page then. Naughty stuff??"Thanks Philip! And not so much naughty stuff as very amusing and unbelievable Internet dating experiences! (ok, so maybe some naughty stuff too but not the main plan!)
But I do not write so it will probably not come to anything, but an idea nonetheless!

Everybody writes! The trick is just to get it down on paper (or the equivalent these days) and not worry about how it sounds or looks. Just write and deal with the finer points later.

Do a blog. It's great fun.

Yes, that's a good idea. You'll also get some idea of what your readers think of your work.
So, I thought I'd got it all set out nicely. Then I put it into Kindle Previewer and found I'd got the first line indents all wrong throughout. So now I've got the pleasure of going through paragraph by paragraph and correcting them all. And I haven't even started trying to sort out the footnotes! AAARGH!!
Another random quote from Jambalaya:"It was a whirlwind romance. He kissed her in a hurricane. Well, he kissed something in a hurricane and, on average, it could have been Celany."

And another:"he would henceforth be Private Dick Verucca, which made him sound either like a Private Investigator for the Chiropody Service or an unfortunate medical condition he wanted to keep quiet."

Right, I'm going for the sympathy vote in a big way! Partially dislocated my finger on Monday. Now have hand strapped up. Paw is definitely being held up!
Patti (Free Bird) wrote: "oh no Phil! what happened?have a kiss on the forehead and a cookie"
This is getting better all the time. I've already got the promise of carrot cake from DD!
The worrying thing is that it just happened, I didn't do anything to cause it.
Patti (Free Bird) wrote: "Good grief. That is worrying! I expect it's really painful too. :("
It's better now that it has been relocated. That "gas and air" stuff is great! Makes it almost worth getting pregnant.
Patti (Free Bird) wrote: "Ha!Sounds like you're still enjoying the effects!
When are you due? ;)"
Same time as I win the lottery and Hell freezes over, apparently.
Another random quote from my forthcoming book, Jambalaya:"Their eyes had met across a crowded room.
Their noses had squashed together and her chin had stuck in his epiglottis.
It was a very crowded room."
Ok, so it's been edited and formatted to within an inch of its life, and I think we're just about there. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a book!
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "Wayhey!!!"Indeed!
Emma - if you're about at all, can you send me an email? I've just changed my PC and I've lost your email address.
