Philip Whiteland - the man behind Josiah and Archibald (which makes it sound like we're in a queue!)
I prefer the first but don't think either gives a clue to the entertainment and enjoyment to be found within the book.IMHO I think you need a cartoon or nostalgia graphic.

Well, the consensus at the moment seems to be, at the very least, to leave well alone. However, any further comments or votes would be much appreciated. You can find the draft cover and voting buttons at www.philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk
Although I've not exactly been inundated with comments and votes on this, I'm very grateful to those who have taken the time and trouble to provide very useful feedback. On the whole, the message seems to be that neither option is particularly wonderful but that leaving the current one in place is probably the best option. So my weekend of swanning around last week was clearly not all that productive ;-) (see www.philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk for the photographic evidence!)
Patti (Perky Pineapple) wrote: "Yeah but it was fun though. :)"True. A couple of very nice ladies asked me if we wanted to have a picture of both of us in front of the swan (instead of it being just me, with my wife doing the technical stuff with the camera). We had to thank them but say we were actually taking pictures for the cover of a book. Felt quite famous for a fraction of a second ;-)
Given the approaching season, I thought it was time to dust off one of my pet proposals again:http://philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk/2...

By which I don't mean a proposal for a pet. That would be just silly.
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "You have me convinced - now just talk to Management!"We need a groundswell of public opinion GL, or possibly £250k ;-)
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "I don't think I count as a groundswell all on my own."Well, there's me as well.
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "Hmmmm.. how many would we actually need...?"I think a groundswell is slightly more than a silent majority ;-)
I am lucky enough to be able to do just that Philip as I work flexitime(apart from 1-2 days a month).Love it.
Philip (sarah) wrote: "I am lucky enough to be able to do just that Philip as I work flexitime(apart from 1-2 days a month).Love it."I'm only supposed to work 3 days per week, but somehow it doesn't quite work out like that! Still, I suppose I've got more freedom than many.
Snap Philip I am increasing to 3 days from next week, currently have 22 hrs and 1 annual leave time due to me.I took early retirement 15 months ago but slowly creeping back into my old ways hehe. It's my own fault I can't say no.
This is the latest article of mine in the Derby Telegraph:http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/thi...
If you felt moved to comment on that site, that would be great ;-)
Now a blog post, for those who didn't fancy visiting the Derby Telegraph:http://philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk/2...
In 1999 I was made redundant from a job I'd held and loved for 20 years. As it was the first time I had ever been unemployed (and I had a few quid in the bank from my severance pay) I managed to persuade my long-suffering wife to let me have a few months off to finally write the book I'd been threatening to write ever since I was a teenager. This is the prologue to that book. If you think it's got legs, I'll post a bit more of it ;-)http://philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk/2...
I think I'd better presume that this extract has not hugely excited the great British reading public ;-)Just as a matter of interest, I've noticed that sales have really slowed down during this week. Anyone else noticed that and, if so, any ideas why?
Well this bit of the reading public hasn't actually looked at it yet since I was pretty busy when it was posted...
Just read it - thats funny! You could forget about the book and just carry on the prologue for a bit longer...Ok well maybe not. I did like it though, and can't help wondering what the actual book would be like.
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "Well this bit of the reading public hasn't actually looked at it yet since I was pretty busy when it was posted..."Present company excepted, of course, GL. Busy is good these days ;-)
Patti (Perky Pineapple) wrote: "I always read your blog, Phil."That's because you're a wonderful person, Patti ;-)

Thanks for the encouragement, GL. I'll post a bit of the first chapter later today and you can see what you think then.
Have just come across this example of life imitating art(ish)http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/l...
I seemt to have inadvertently introduced a note of sadness into all of this. How about we assume that this was just a temporary twinge on the part of the duck and that it's now jumping about like a box of frogs? Does that help?
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "that will only happen if someone attaches springs to it's legs!boing, boing, boing!!"
Well, it is Spring so that would be appropriate.
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "well yes i suppose it would be! The duck might find it a bit alarming though.. :)"The price of duck would go up as well as you'd never catch one. Like three-legged hens.
Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "Did you hear about the man who crossed a chicken with an octopus?"Go on...
