Philip Whiteland - the man behind Josiah and Archibald (which makes it sound like we're in a queue!)
My Granny's vanishing into the horizon and the duck's sinking without trace! Go and have a look and keep them company ;-)
Patti (Totally Bananas) wrote: "Hi Phil. Have you grabbed THE BOOK yet?"I haven't but I will be taking a look soon.
Gingerlily (lovable author) wrote: "Wooo hooo! Have some Marmite chocolate to celebrate!"Erm, I think I'll pass on that. It'll be Ex-Lax next!
Gingerlily (lovable author) wrote: "No need to be ashamed - these things come to all of us with the advancing years..."I must admit, there are times when I envy my grandson his nappy. A few seconds of earnest reflection then you can get on with your day and somebody else clears the mess up eventually ;-)
Apparently I now have a Facebook Author page. Would be very grateful if you came over and ;liked; it!https://www.facebook.com/pages/Philip...
Patti (Totally Bananas) wrote: "It still needs curtains, Phil..."People have said that about me, Patti ;-)
Still not sure if I'm doing the right things with this new Facebook page. Facebook perplexes me at the best of times (mind you, it doesn't take a lot)https://www.facebook.com/pages/Philip...
Many comments over there frequently are unfortunately. The greater number aren't though, so I like to concentrate on them. And we have each other here, of course. :)
A cautionary Christmas tale from the new book, Crutches For Ducks:http://philwhiteland.blogspot.com/201...
I'm thinking of running a promotion during December and January whereby you could obtain both Steady Past Your Granny'sand Crutches For Ducksfor less than a fiver. This would probably entail reducing SPYG to £0.99 and CFD to £3.99. Any thoughts?
Patti (Totally Bananas) wrote: "I don't think a promotion can ever be a bad thing, Phil."Yes, that was my thought, Patti. I just don't want to start a 'race to the bottom' pricewise.
I don't want to start one of those interminable discussions on e-book pricing that litter the Amazoo fora, but I just wondered how significant price was in your (by which I mean anyone's) decision to buy a book, or not?
Ruby wrote: "It's certainly a significant consideration for me when buying e-books."Really? That's interesting. Why e-books in particular? How do you determine whether a price is 'fair' or not?
It's difficult for me to be objective because I'm an indie author myself and I've just put my two novels down to 99c for Christmas, havuing had them at $2.99 for a while. I'll give it a go.Paper books - I'd be prepared to pay more than an e-book because of the sharing and shelving aspects.
e-books - the absence of fixed costs in the product makes me feel that they should be a fraction of a paper book's price.
I've picked up a lot of indie author ebooks as a review swap and found only one or two that I would have paid any money for at all. It led to me being in some tricky positions regrading the review and actually welching on a couple of agreements.
I guess I'm in one place as a reader and another as an author.

Yes, I see your point. I suppose my concern is that there's quite a constituency amongst e-book readership that doesn't fee that they should cost anything at all. I fear this may be a self-fulfilling prophecy and all we'll be left with (from Indie authors, anyway) are the sorts of e-books you have suffered.
I personally think that $2.99 is a fair price for my e-books. Reviews have been solid and I do place value on my work. Having said that, I'm aware that everybody's pockets are a bit empty this year. I'll revert to $2.99 after Christmas. If I could choose I'd price higher in the US where price does seem to be taken as a proxy for quality more than in other markets. The Smashwords and Kindle models don't really allow for that. I tried having just a US version a few months ago and got into a bit of a mess with it.
Special Christmas Promotion - for the rest of December and January you can get both Steady Past Your Granny'sand Crutches For Ducksfor less than a fiver! Great stories at a great price to brighten up the Christmas of the baby-boomer in your life.
Patti (Totally Bananas) wrote: "Nice, Phil!"Times are hard at the moment, Patti. I know everyone is struggling and I think they might make good Christmas presents, hence the temporary price drop.
Be honest, where else could you get a Granny for less than a quid and a Duck for £3.99? You'd be hard pushed to get an able-bodied Duck for that price ;-)
I was just working it out (I don't know how it got stuck up there in the first place)and you get 49 stories for £3.99, which is less than 10p a story! Add to that the documentary proof I have that it makes young women smile at you, and I can't see what's stopping a rush to the checkout? What more do you want, blood? ;-)
Beer please. Free beer with all my books. T&Cs - must claim in person in Kilkenny, must be over 21, must be accompanied by great-grandparents.
Cakes and ale, perhaps? Anyway, my Granny has bounced up to No. 73 in the Kindle Humour chart, so something is doing the old girl good!
Have a look at where my Granny's got to in the rankings! You'll probably have to hurry up, it's unlikely to last ;-)http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0...

It takes all sorts to make liquorice, doesn't it?

Granny had a very good weekend, thank you for asking. She spent most of the time in the Kindle Humour Top 100, which she found very exciting. Mind you, being two places in front of Mr. Russel Brand was a bit disconcerting. However, she found that if she kept her stays firmly fastened, with a hat-pin at the ready, all was well.
Very special offer - until midnight on Christmas Day, Crutches For Ducks is just £1.99. Go and get a Duck for Christmas!
