Yea! That sounds like me!

I agree! I haven't read all of any one of those.
Anyway, I'm an Obsessive Compulsive Bookworm. Sounds about right :D

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) As it turns out, I'm "Obsessive-Compulsive Bookworm" with a healthy dose of "Literate Good Citizen" and some "Dedicated Reader" thrown into the mix.

My Literate Good Citizen and Obsessive-Compulsive Bookworm were very close each about 50% but Dedicated Reader beat both of these quite a bit.

Thanks Colleen. Living in Beijing and not having a satellite dish means we have no Western tv and I rarely watch movies anymore. So that helps big time on my reading time.

But that's nothing. There are people on this site who read a book a day!! I don't know how they manage that at all.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Hey, there is one person in one of my groups who read 5 books in one day!? How do you do that??

message 114: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (melindalu) | 4 comments Dedicated Reader The only question I didn't really like was the one about "have you read every book in this series...I had read SOME, but the "series" books weren't true series. I do love a good series, unless the last few books go to crap (Jean Auel and Diana Gabbeldon come to mind, here) But I loved the whole Lonesome Dove series, The Border Trilogy, Rabbit Angstrom...etc. Read most of the Mists of Avaoln Series. Man, that's a great book (the first one, I mean) Sorry...kinda got off on the whole "series" thing.

message 115: by Meghan (new)

Meghan Lyn wrote: "Hey, there is one person in one of my groups who read 5 books in one day!? How do you do that??"

Seriously, how can you retain all that? My brain's a sieve though, so even if I could do it, it'd be pointless. I'd end up having to reread them all because I'd have forgotten it all!

Colleen (ossycolly) Lyn wrote: "Hey, there is one person in one of my groups who read 5 books in one day!? How do you do that??"

You know, I think that is just too much. You would never remember them or be able to savour them properly - or then again maybe Im just envious.

I thought that about the Diana Gabbeldon series also.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
I hear the new Diana Gabaldon is good, though?? I am only on the second one so I wouldn't know.

As for 5 books in one day. I can't believe it. I don't think I would be able to enjoy them.

message 119: by Melinda (last edited Nov 03, 2009 02:36PM) (new)

Melinda (melindalu) | 4 comments 5 "books" in one day? Children's books, maybe... 5 books in one week would be a gigantic stretch for me. I'd have to be on vacation with absolutely nothing else to do but read. 5 books in a month? No problem-o!

Meghan Melinda wrote: " Dedicated Reader The only question I didn't really like was the one about "have you read every book in this series...I had read SOME, but the "series" books weren't true series. I do love a good s..."

I heard the second book (Gabaldon) was "meh" but the third was good. I enjoyed the first one but I'm not compelled to run out and get another one any time soon. Have too many others to focus on right now.

I'm currently reading Mists of Avalon. There are more? egads. I'm really enjoying the first one but it's going very slowly.

message 121: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (melindalu) | 4 comments Mists of Avalon is by far and away the BEST of the series. I can't even remember the names of the other books...maybe The Forest House? It was so long ago! Once you get hooked into Mists, I predict that you will not be able to tear yourself away! Let me know how it goes.

message 122: by Rora (new)

Rora The Mists of Avalon is one of my favorite books. It was originally a stand-alone book and the series got added on years later. I believe she had a co-author help her with the later books.

That sounds right. I didn't like the other books as much as Mists...but I read them. It was a LONG time ago! I really liked The Firebrand, which was like Mists, but it was Helen of Troy told from the viewpoint of the women. That's really more of a companion piece more than the other books.

ooohhh thanks Melinda! That does sound interesting.

Have you tried Guenevere, Queen of the Summer Country by Rosalind Miles? I enjoyed that series. It was the first one I had read of the Camelot mythology from the women's point of view. A little more "myth" than historical compared to Mists, but it's a lot more "realistic" than say Richard Harris' movie "Camelot". heh

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Meghan - I really liked the first book of that series. How did you find the others? Should I finish?

message 126: by Meghan (new)

Meghan Lyn wrote: "Meghan - I really liked the first book of that series. How did you find the others? Should I finish?"

I enjoyed it very much. It's been a long time since I read the whole series, so I can't really compare it to Mists. But I'd say if you liked the first one, the rest are pretty similar. I didn't find too much unevenness throughout.

message 127: by Candiss (new)

Candiss (tantara) I'm another Dedicated Reader. That seems the most accurate of the possible outcomes, as I am almost always reading...or reading about reading. I also tend to read several books at once; a typical pattern for me is to read a book or two of short stories, a novel, and a non-fiction or classic book at one time, although I also jump around. The most constant aspect of this particular malady is that I always have stacks of books everywhere, am always reading chapters and bits of a different book, and need a horse-cart to haul home my library booty!

message 128: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Literate Good Citizen.

You read to inform or entertain yourself, but you're not nerdy about it. You've read most major classics (in school) and you have a favorite genre or two.

Quite true. But i started to like classical novels after I graduated from college.

message 129: by Steven (new)

Steven (yam655) | 26 comments It listed me as 78% Book Snob.
You like to think you're one of the literati, but actually you're just a snob who can read. You read mostly for the social credit you can get out of it.
Next up was: 67% Dedicated Reader, 64% Literate Good Citizen, 62% Obsessive-Compulsive (The "Copy/Paste This" section of the page has a "Plain Text" link that makes it easy to paste.)

I think what did it for me was question #4 (When you hear about a new huge best-seller, what do you do?). I'm cheap. When I hear about a best-seller I do nothing. I may well see the movie first. ("You wait for the movie version." -- The Book Snob answer. I'm sorry, but a $1 Redbox DVD rental is cheaper than a $25 hardback.) However, if I do decide to read the book, they're a lot cheaper after the big rush to read it is over and a surplus has reached the second-hand market. (I love $1 clearance paperbacks at Half-Price Books.)

Monica (nutz4reading) Your Result: Dedicated Reader

You are always trying to find the time to get back to your book. You are convinced that the world would be a much better place if only everyone read more.

I read just about anything. I am always trying new books, authors, genres etc. I try to read every day for at least an hour, would love to read for more then an hour though. Weekends are when I really get more reading in while the dishwasher is cleaning and I am waiting for my wash to get done. Now with the new fall season starting my reading time will be cut during the night on a few evenings this week, unless the shows disappoint me.

here is the text version of my results:

message 134: by Crystal (new)

Crystal The first time I took the quiz, I got literate good citizen with dedicated reader as second. I had clicked off of the page though and when I went back, it was gone. I took it again and changed one answer and the positions were switched. Ha. Dedicated reader. The one I switched was one where there was no right answer for me. I don't just read non-fiction or novels, but both pretty much equally. I am reading two non-fiction and two novels right now. Switching to novels swung me into dedicated which is slightly annoying. Aren't non-fiction readers dedicated too?? Fun quiz though.
