Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments I have to switch my favorite series book. I started Dark Desires After Dusk and then I lost it when I cleaned my apartment. Cuz that is just what I do. I will read Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead instead.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments LOL Crystal! I've been searching for a "lost" book for about a week now......

Priorities Crystal... If you just read and forget about the cleaning like I do, you will never have that problem!

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments I finished my fav series read Blue Moon 4*s....I have really enjoyed this series thus far I'm rather confused about Anita's relationship with Richard & Jean Claude but I am rather curious to see how this all plays out especially now that Anita & Richard have gotten closer. definitely plan read the next book soon

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I'm trying desperately to finish The Greyfriar. Don't know just why it is so hard for me.....maybe because I had to put it down and read a few others. But, it's still easy to put down.

Really anxious to start Mockingjay. I started to say I wanted to see if it fit into the next shelf, but it's my Free Space read, so it doesn't matter! DUH!!!

How is everyone else doing with their reading? Nobody has been chatting here, and we still have 3 peeps to finish and review before we can get our stamp! *bites fingernails* Wish I could help....

Ahah! I knew I was doing something wrong! LOL

I'm nearly done with my book. It has been a very stressful week for me too. I had a rough day at work today (or rather, yesterday) and I don't have a day off till next Friday (that's right folks, I'll be working 8 days in a row). I'm cranky about working this weekend. Nothing has gone right all week; it's just one sh**ty day after another. ANYWAY, my point is, I'm reading slowly cuz every time I try to read I get all distracted by my thoughts about this dadgum job!!!!! *sigh* Sorry about that y'all. :-(

Lili | 297 comments Hellooooo!!!
I'm happy to report I'm back on line!... well, I would be happier with another week like the last one but ok... my very dear and loving boyfriend came over for a week and he even brought me some presents!
Now the honeymoon is over and I'm getting back on track with everything, it looks like the world didn't stop while I was away...

I did try to read a little but Crave was so awful!, I just lost any interest I might have had in it as soon as I picked it up every time.
But don't worry my Serious Series Sluts!, I just finished it and since my next book is a Stephanie Plum's one, I KNOW I'll be inhaling it!

Kisses to all of you dears!!!
muah muah muah!

PS. Cindy, you live in Tx right?, I'm green with envy right now... Adele will be in Dallas and some other town, Gosh!, I wish she was coming to Az!!

Lili | 297 comments Just finished Crave by J.R. Ward 08/06**

I don't know why but reading Ward's books keeps getting harder and harder... Lover Unleashed was awful... the whole series has been since the 5th or 6th book and now this new series...
I like Alpha males, I do, but not when they talk and act like they need to prove they're all powerful and strong and tough, that just does the exact opposite.
It took me forever to finish this book, I couldn't relate to the characters, the scene in Devina's hell was waaaay too gruesome for my taste, what was the purpose of that?
But worst of all were the dialogues and all the silly, stupid slang... meh!, just idiotic!

Lis | 4037 comments Yeah team! A few more books checked off as completed!!

@Lili - Covet was very hard for me so I tried the audio version of Crave, but still a tough one for me too. I also hear if you want a little Adele, you can go hang out at an American Idol try-out close by. Rolling in the deep is the song all the contestants are singing this year to audition.

@Sallie - I'm probably one of the few that has hung with LKH and still buy her Anita Blake and Meredith Gentry books... I think one of the issues is that she has soooo many guys in her life by the time she makes her rounds (servicing them too). When we finally catch up with where they all are, you're like oh yeah, what's this storyline about? Someone created a great drinking game to reading her books...

I'm off to a company picnic/ amusement park today with the kids, so I will check in much much later. Fingers crossed we have a good shelf this week. I won't be pacing this week...

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments I have a very low tolerance for Ward's slang. I enjoy the books stories, but I have to space them way, way out or else I'll throw the book down and never bother finishing it. I haven't started the Fallen Angels series; I'm still slowly making my way/getting caught up on the BDB. I flew through the first 3 books (HAD to read Zsadist's story!), but after that I had to take a break from the series. That break was nearly a year. THEN I made the mistake of reading the 4th and 5th books less than a month apart and almost couldn't focus on the 5th book because of all the stupid, stupid slang. Anyway, so far I'm sticking with Ward, but in the end that slang is what's gonna drive me away.

Hope you have fun today Lis! I wish I was going to a picnic/amusement park today. Even if it's going to be another scorcher today where I am. LOL

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments @ Lili - yes, I live in Austin TX - but who is Adele?????

@Crystal - so sorry you had a crappy week.....hope things get better for you!

@ Sallie - I'm still buying and reading LKH Anita series. Gave up on Meredith, just didn't like it as much. FYI - if the books start really annoying you, just realize this: I personally don't think she will ever decide between Jean Claude and Richard. And, with the "special relationship" they share, not really sure she could.

I'm excited about our new shelf coming up. Now, if you'll excuse me, one of the other teams has an offering to my dragon. I'm about to have a snack!

Sandra | 25908 comments Adele is a singer ... named Adele. I think she's English.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments @Sandra: yes she is English - she is one of the hottest singers out there right now..her 2nd CD "21" is breaking all kinds of records. I love her - like "21" better than "19" her 1st CD but still love her just the same "Chasing Pavements" is my fav so far.

As far as hot - its past hot & is now "Scorching hot" - heat advisory again is being posted & I can say it sucks - I have a new front porch & I have not been out to sit on it except to walk up the steps to get my mail - if its not "hot" the bugs are so bad they will carry you off - stood outside & talked to my neighbor for all of 10 min & I think I was a midnight snack for some...Waiting for our shelf posting before I start another book - so going to play on the IPAD

Lili | 297 comments Cindy (eclecticfirefly) wrote: "@ Lili - yes, I live in Austin TX - but who is Adele?????..."

Yes, Sandra is right, Adele is a singer from the UK.
She has an AMAZING voice, not many singers sound the same or even better live than they do on a CD.
She's very sweet, talented and so beautiful, she's also a bit chubby and I respect her even more now because even though all the magazines and TV shows always criticize her, she's still a NORMAL girl, she didn't get surgery or starved herself to be super skinny when she became successful.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments What a lucky girl I am - just picked up Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith @ the library today so I am going with this as my pick

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments OOH - I have that one too! But, let me check the shelf - this is gonna be my FAVORITE!!!!!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments WOW!!! Do I pick something new, or revisit an old favorite?

Here's my short list - any help deciding would be appreciated!

Old faves:

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris It by Stephen King The Stand by Stephen King Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon

New:

Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, #3) by Melissa Marr Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher Tantalize (Tantalize, #1) by Cynthia Leitich Smith Sandman Slim (Sandman Slim, #1) by Richard Kadrey The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson The Child Thief by Brom Dark Angels Lesbian Vampire Stories by Pam Keesey Pretty When She Dies A Vampire Novel by Rhiannon Frater

I need something awesome! The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, #1) by Clay Griffith is kicking my a$$....and I don't consider it dark, even though it was listed there...

message 170: by Lili (new)

Lili | 297 comments I'll be reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins for this shelf.

message 171: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Cindy, I haven't read it but Steph loved Pretty When She Dies by Rhiannon Frater

message 172: by Lis (last edited Aug 06, 2011 09:07PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments What a tough shelf to pick from. I ran thru the list and have narrowed it down to these...
Aftertime (Aftertime, #1) by Sophie Littlefield The Shadow Queen (The Black Jewels, #7) by Anne Bishop Moonshine (Cal Leandros, #2) by Rob Thurman Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher or on the dark PNR side Dark Destiny (Carpathians, #13) by Christine Feehan Wicked Enchantment (Dark Magick, #1) by Anya Bast
I think I'll have to sleep on it... I had hoped to find Jocelynn Drake's Burn the Night on the list, but didn't see it.

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments I finished Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead earlier (08/06/11). I'm giving it ★★★★. I haven't yet read a Richelle Mead book that I don't enjoy. This is probably my least favorite of her series that I've started (I've also read the Georgina Kincaid series and part of the Vampire Academy series). It's only cause in general I'm not a fan of "magic" books. Witches and the like just don't usually hold my interest. The sole exceptions are Harry Potter and the Dresden Files. That being said, I still enjoyed it. There is a love triangle, which might annoy some people, but they don't bother me. Well, as long as they don't last for too long *cough*Stephanie Plum series*cough*. I like Eugenie, even if she is kinda wishy-washy about her feelings. I'm definitely reading the next in the series.

Ok, I have finally decided I'm going to read Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater for my free-space book.

And for the "dark" shelf, I'm leaning towards The Ruins by Scott B. Smith , but am totally reserving the right to change my mind if I don't feel like tackling it when the time comes (it's kinda long and, also, scary). I have 5 other books to choose from, all YA (which = faster/easier to read).

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Crystal - I LOVED The Ruins. Dark, scary, AWESOME!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I think I'm gonna go with Pretty When She Dies A Vampire Novel by Rhiannon Frater . I'm sure it will actually BE dark and I don't want to read a wannabe.

message 176: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Sorry team... Busy weekend but I've picked my "DARK" shelf book. I'll be reading Agents of Light and Darkness (Nightside, #2) by Simon R. Green

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Yay Lis - now everybody has picked out a book.

My vacation has officially ended and I'm back at work. I'm having to train a new window clerk, so don't get the reading time at breaks like I usually do....SIGH....why can't they just take their own break and let me READ???? It's only a week. It's only a week. It's only a week......

I actually hid in my car with my book today so no one could find me during lunch. I am sure that is not an option in the TX heat though...

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Nope - not really..... It's pitch black outside and STILL 99. I did go out to lunch by myself, so got to read for that time, but I love to read on my afternoon break. Never seems to happen when I'm training someone. They always seem to be like puppies! Trailing along with you, always at your heels, they just don't drool as much! LOL

Lili | 297 comments Seven Up by Janet Evanovich 08/08*****

oooohhhhh my God!, this was soooo good!
but what's with the cliffhangers??
I don't need them for my hands to start twiching to get the next book in the series!
Super funny as always, Stephanie is sooo dumb but sweet and silly, Joe and Ranger... well... let's just say I understand Stephanie's dilemma.
Grandma and Lula are the best support characters I've ever read.
I really didn't know what was the deal with the heart and who the bad guys were... and looooved the ending... oh oh oh... can't wait for the next one!!!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments YAY Lili!!!!! Good to hear from you and so glad you loved your book! It's always better when you pick out something completely awesome.

Just one more book review and we can ask for our Favorites Stamp! HOORAY!!!!

Keep up the reading ladies. I'm almost finished with my Dark book. Should be able to post my review tomorrow.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Understandable Jess....I'll be slowing down just as you will be able to speed up! I went back to work yesterday, so all that lovely "I don't want to do anything else, guess I'll read" time is over.....

message 187: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments I'm over half way thru my "Dark" read too, so should be able to post by tommorrow.

Ok. I'll be on the look out for him. :-)

Lol! Well, I am dressed like Silvermist since I'm playing with water balloons. (I think the Tinkerbell movies are too cute. Lol.)

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Sorry Alyssa - I don't know what Silvermist looks like. My DD probably wouldn't have watched a Tinkerbell movie even when she was little! Hellion!!! I do have a Tinkerbell coffee mug. It's one of my favorites. Also have a Tinkerbell travel mug.

Gotta finish my book. I'm loving it!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I'm done!

Pretty When She Dies A Vampire Novel by Rhiannon Frater Dark Shelf 8-10 *****

Great choice for the Dark shelf. Plenty of blood, gore, killing, more blood, and revenants taken apart then put back together to create even more repulsive and dangerous creatures. Loved the combination of necromancy and vampires. Fabulous as a stand-alone, but plenty of options to continue the story.

Lis | 4037 comments Finished my "Dark" Shelf book: Agents of Light and Darkness

Date finished: August 10,2011
Rating: ★★★
Review:
Another good adventure in the Nightside. Once I quit trying to make sense out of what I'm reading, its usually a good ride. Nothings too predictible and usually pretty creepy. Got a little more backstory on Suzie Shooter and more suspense built around his mysterious mother. Other than that its an adventure to find the "Unholy Grail" before the angels. Eddie Razor makes an appearance and Merlin, cat robots and the moon. Go figure, only in the Nightside right? But John comes thru so we can have another book.

message 197: by Crystal S (last edited Aug 11, 2011 10:25PM) (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments Oh my. I finished The Ruins by Scott B. Smith this morning (08/11/11). ★★★★1/2 That is one scary and creepy book. I'd seen the movie so I had a good idea of what to expect (especially since I'm pretty sure the author is also the screenwriter). It was very intense and depressing. I was riveted; stayed up till 5AM reading before I finally had to put it down so I could get some sleep. Then I had a bit of trouble falling asleep. LOL I'm a terrible enough person to admit that the character I liked the least was the first to die. :-P I also thought that it would take me forever to read, what with having 500+ pages, but I flew through it and finished it faster than other, shorter, books I've read lately. :-) The book loses 1/2 a star for having a slow start (until you hit page 70 or so and then you can't turn away) and a bleak ending. And I don't like bleak endings, even when I realize that there is no other way for it to end and feel "real."

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments You aren't a terrible person Crystal....I felt the same way about that character!

LOVED this book!!!! It is intensely depressing, and quite scary. The movie was actually pretty close to the book. Think I'll see if I can rent it this weekend.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Jessica - the bad reviews don't happen until much later in the series. About #9 or so. The beginning books are awesome! I still enjoy the books, but lots of folks have given up......

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments Hey all - still working on Tantalize (Tantalize, #1) by Cynthia Leitich Smith ...just wanted to pop in & tell everyone that I was still around just have been busy
