Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments 4-Star Shelf
Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins 7-25 ****

Catching Fire was a fabulous continuation of the series. I'm definitely reading Mockingjay soon!

Sorry folks, but I think I'm team Gale. I love Peeta, but I don't think he and Katniss belong together. I'm hoping that someone else will come into the story in the next book for him. Don't think it will happen, though..... Maybe we could talk Suzanne into another trilogy?

Lis | 4037 comments Good job speed readers:) I'm a little bummed, family events this weekend kept my reading time and shelf research limited.

Narrowing down my free space read... I'm down to my final three - Shadowflame (Shadow World, #2) by Dianne Sylvan , July new release, Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne or Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison , both on the SOS shelf. I plan to finalize and get it finished this week, will report in.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Lis, I'm off work this week and next. Sure I'll slow down a bit once I have to go back.

Lis | 4037 comments Happy Reading!! I am sure that is the best way to beat the TX heat is stay inside. Glad you enjoyed Catching Fire, I've been watching some of the casting for the movies, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna is pretty interesting.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Yeah....that's interesting. I can sorta see Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, although I thought of him as fatter than Woody. Lenny Kravitz???? Guess it could work.

message 106: by Lili (new)

Lili | 297 comments Just finished When He Was Bad by Shelly Laurenston & Cynthia Eden 07/25****

There are 2 stories, Miss Congeniality by Shelly Laurenston which was great!, I love the characters!
Van Holtz is so funny and sexy, very Alpha... and Irene is just the right amount of feisty without being a bitch.
Wicked ways by Cynthia Eden which wasn't as good, Cain was supposed to be this super Alpha shifter but came out as a jerk and Miranda was just all over the place, some of her reactions weren't brave but plain stupid.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I'm bummed! Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins is gonna have to be put off for a couple of weeks......

One of the Virtual Boxes I am in at PBS just finished up. Now I have 6 or 7 books that I have to read and mail by August 6. I might change my Free Space read if any of those are on the shelves here. Since most of them are M/M Erotica, I'm not holding my breath!

Judithe | 6566 comments **Rule Clarification**

A couple of questions have come up related to books used for Bingo. Just in case you haven't seen the discussion on the Q&A pages, etc., we're posting it here. Happy reading!

* All books should be a minimum of 200 pgs. All others are more of a novella. This rule will be effective as of the 2nd shelf announcement, in case someone has already chosen and read one for shelf #1. (if you have read one for shelf #1, your read will count)

* No, graphic novels are not accepted.

Here is Steph's original announcement.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments Hi everyone - just wanted to say I finished my book for our stamp - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone...5*s...this was a re-read but I loved it - I even had to watch the 1st HP movie again. Off to find my free space read now

I would have to say this book had me hooked from the very beginning. I loved the magic world of Harry Potter but also liked how the author incorporated the "non-magic" world with the "magic" world. The characters and the scenes just jump off the pages. Even though I have read this book several times before they never lose their ability to amaze.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Hey Sallie - can you give us a bit more of a review? I am ashamed to admit I have never read any of the HP books, even though we have all of them here. Obviously you love the book, but why?

Lis | 4037 comments Finished my 4★ Shelf book: The Lightning Thief

Date finished: July 27 2011
Rating: ★★★1/2
Review: Taking in consideration that this is a YA book, I enjoyed the story. I originally purchased this series with my little gifted daughter in mind, thinking we could read together. I plan on finishing the series and hope to encourage her to join me, it seems like it will be a very fun journey with Percy. He has some great supportive friends, hits a few twists and turns as ventures on his quest. A good adolescence adventure with a few minor HEA and a few new questions that you have to continue with the series to discover what will happen next.

Lis | 4037 comments For my free space book, I am going to go with Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison . Too many good reviews and comments on this one. I can't hold off the temptation and I'm afraid I am going to catch a spoiler.

message 113: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Only 1 more review to go until we get our stamp. I'm so antsy! Have lots to read, but REALLY want to know what the next shelf is gonna be.....

SIGH.......

Doesn't help that I am going stir crazy here in the house. Just me and my 4 yr old grandson. The rest of the gang went off to Fiesta Texas today. In a way I'm jealous, but it's SO HOT, can't imagine being out in the heat all day long!

Trying to get started on organizing my books and adding them to my shelves here, but it's slow..... Evan keeps wanting to help with my books. He's careful, but he's just 4.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Helloooooooooo..........*echo* *echo* *echo*

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments FYI I picked Lover Unleashed for my free space read. Should have it finished by the end of the weekend.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments YAY!!!! Another teammate!!! I am not alone.....

Lis | 4037 comments Almost finished with my free space book... It was a verrrry good choice! So how many more hours until our shelf is announced? I scored some more bargains today at Borders, so I am waiting to see if I bought anything that will fit the category... *Sigh*

Lis | 4037 comments Finished my Free Shelf book: Dragon Bound

Date finished: July 30 2011
Rating: ★★★★★
Review: Loved it!! A very Hawt Alpha Dragon and a spunky sarcastic heroine. Super bad villians and a team of loyal dedicated elite hunky shifters that have "spin off" stories already forming. First time I've read this author, I like her style and sense of humor that threads thru her characters. Will definitely continue with her series, next one due in August.

message 121: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Jessica, that book can count as your free space b/c it's on the group's bookshelf. :D

It was my birthday this week, so I have 3 bottles of wine a pack of Pomegranite Margaritas and another of Southern Lemonade... BBQ wings in the fridge... Reading party is ready to go.. pace pace pace...

message 123: by Crystal S (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments Finished The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan last night very early this morning (07/30/11). I'm giving it ★★★★ stars. It was a good book. Definitely written for children. Simple and plain with easily resolved conflicts. I enjoy Percy's adventures and will definitely continue the series. I am trying not to compare it to the Harry Potter series, which, while also written for children (originally at least,) is a much richer and better written world. There is no comparison, IMO, but the Percy Jackson series is still pretty good. :-)

I'll pick out my free space book later tonight. I've got a friend coming over and I'm going to help her study for a licensure exam that we need for our job. One that I studied a solid month for. She has not studied at all and her test is Wednesday. I thought the test was hard as hell (and as egotistical as it sounds, I am smarter than her.). Granted, I have a higher degree than her so I had a harder and more complex exam than she will. Ugh. I just can't get over her cavalier attitude about it! Whew. Sorry for that little vent there. :-( I won't do it again! LOL

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Vent away!!!! I don't mind....and it sounds like something you needed to do!!

So glad you finished your book - and ESPECIALLY glad that you enjoyed it! IMO that is the most important part of reading.

Wake up Steph.....surely it's Sunday over there already!!!!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments SHELF: Favorite Series - Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews
DATE FINISHED: July 31
RATING: ★★★★☆

"Welcome home. I'm glad you made it. There is coffee in the kitchen for you."

My mouth gaped open.

He inhaled my scent, bent close, about to kiss me...

I just stood there like an idiot.

Curran smirked and whispered in my ear instead. "Psych."

And just like that, he was out the door and gone.

Oh boy.

That has GOT to be the world's best ending to a book. EVER!

OPEN YOUR EYES KATE!!!! The man is in serious lust! He made you COFFEE, the nectar of the Gods. He could have kissed you. But he cares enough to tease you instead. Where is he? I'll take him!

Oh yeah - I'll definitely be reading the next several books. Gotta find out how long it takes Kate to figure things out.

Lis | 4037 comments Finished my "Favorite Series" book: Deeper Than Midnight (Midnight Breed, #9) by Lara Adrian

Date finished: August 2 2011
Rating: ★★★
Review: This one was just OK, both of the main characters were very damaged victims. It took awhile to get past the sad to get to the semi HEA. Also one of the side stories was one of my favorite characters Sterling (Harvard) Chase, and his storyline was also a terrible downer. This one ended in a cliffhanger too:/ The Midnight Breed series is one of my more favorite vampire series, slightly milder to Ward's BDB guys (and without the baby powder). I am hoping we get a super HEA with Harvard's story next year, its finally his turn!
