Komal (komalm) | 142 comments Hey, has anyone participated in Giveaway section ever on Goodreads? Rather, has anyone ever got any book from Giveaway section? I want to know more about this section.

I don;t think this section is valid for India. They tend to give away books only to US and UK

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments This topic came up during our B'lore meet. As per Sherin, it seems this is available in India too!

I'll check it out immediately. I remember trying to join once and finding the option is not available for India

message 5: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47118 comments Mod
Yes. If IN is India, then India is in.

Have already entered for two giveaways. Thanks Komal and Adi

message 7: by Komal (new)

Komal (komalm) | 142 comments Thanks for participating guys!

Yeah, I have also added my nominations for 2-3 books yesterday. Many of the books are not available for India. But the point is, has anyone ever got any book in India! My guess is that there are several factors involved like - cost of shipping, reader's current book shelf (interest), which groups he's joined, etc. So let's wait for Dec 31, 2011 bcoz that is the distribution date... lol

dely | 5485 comments Thanks to you Komal for making me notice this feature I had never seen.
I have always thought it was like a bookswap and this is only for US members.

I have entered for one giveaway. Now we must just wait, nothing else?

message 9: by Sherin (new)

Sherin Punnilath (shery_7) | 7330 comments Some books which initially list only US&UK,later add India and other countries.May be as part of publicity :)

That said,I have my doubts about they sending stuff down here. ;)

me too. still no harm in trying.

Sherin Punnilath (shery_7) | 7330 comments Exactly :)

message 12: by Komal (new)

Komal (komalm) | 142 comments I was going through an another thread on 'who won the giveaway books' - seems to be all western readers, or the one with vested interests in those topics.
I have never seen any Indian reader saying, they won a book! :d
Let's wait n watch for ourselves!

message 13: by dely (new)

dely | 5485 comments Me too I will let you know if I will win the book. There is only one italian book, they give away two copies and we are till now only three persons. It ends the 15th september, it is not so far away.

Komal, can you please link this discussion who talks about "who won the giveaways"? I would like to read it, to see if there are other italians. Thanks.

message 14: by Komal (new)

Komal (komalm) | 142 comments Sure Dely, here it is for your:

Do you enter Goodreads Giveaways?

message 15: by Abhijith (last edited Aug 17, 2011 04:21AM) (new)

Abhijith Nuchin (nuchin) | 796 comments I'm entering to giveaways for months but I've not got any :(

The authors tend to give the books to those who hv many followers in GR and write review of the books.

message 16: by Komal (new)

Komal (komalm) | 142 comments Ok, so that's a good parameter. Atleast an objective criteria of how books are distributed. Let's care to give reviews to our read books, and start following each other, for their reviews, when we have common genre.

message 17: by dely (new)

dely | 5485 comments Komal wrote: "Sure Dely, here it is for your:

Thanks. The only italian who has written in the discussion lives in the UK and reads in english.
If the parameters are those I will never receive any book! I don't like to write reviews and I don't think to be followed by anybody. But, a good thing, there are only a few italians on GR and so there are more chances to win a book because nobody enteres these books.

message 18: by Jyoti (new)

Jyoti Arora (jyotiarora) | 593 comments Hi, well I started a sort of giveaway contest for my novel Dream's Sake in the games section. And since it was in this group, the winners were both Indians.

Dream's Sake

message 19: by dely (new)

dely | 5485 comments Nothing, I'm not winning. I have entered twice for the same book but did not win (it seems really very interesting, it is My Heart Stopped Beating). There is still one I have entered and who ends in september.
How is it going with your giveaways?

message 20: by Jyoti (new)

Jyoti Arora (jyotiarora) | 593 comments closed now. I have given away two books, now waiting to hear the winners' reviews.

message 21: by dely (new)

yes, Yuganta and Caves of Steel

message 31: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47118 comments Mod
I too haven't read the first book. Am going to start straight off with Caves of Steel

message 32: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments The first in the series, The Complete Robot is just a collection of stories introducing you to Asimov's world of Robots. Even i didn't read it and directly started with the Caves of Steel. It is ok to read so. But if u want to have an introduction of sorts to Asimov and his three laws of robotics, i recommend you to pick up any short story from I, Robot or the Complete Robot. Will check and let you know if anything specific helps...

Anbu (anbutheone) | 4469 comments Freelancer wrote: "Okay tell me, do we discuss giveaways only of GoodReads here or any giveaway that's offered by bloggers??"

Hey Freelancer, this thread is just to discuss about the giveaway section in goodreads not about any particular giveaways..

If you want to let members know about a particular giveaway (in blogs or in goodreads) then you need to open a new thread in promotions folder for that..

I think I am the worst Italian of Italy.
I have never seen something made by Bernini though there is here near to my city a church who has an altar of Bernini. One day I will go (I not even know if it is always open!).

message 49: by Vinoth (new)

Vinoth | 4684 comments I am not gonna comment here , i can think of way too many places i could have visited but never visited.though they are not places which could be compared to chapels housing Bernini's art , still the statement stands :(

But haven't you visited St.Peter's Basilica??

message 50: by dely (new)

dely | 5485 comments Vinoth wrote: "But haven't you visited St.Peter's Basilica??"

Shame on me! I was never in Rome.
Well, I was twice but the first time I was a child and we don't have been there a long time (my parents had only to close a deal by a notary) and the second time I went there with friends but for a peaceful protest for animal rights. Also this time I have been there not for long, only the time for the demonstration.
I told you I am a disgraceful Italian!

But in general I have not travelled a lot :(
