Vinoth, is there some jamming or some technical problem with only your name being visible to the donors? I;m quite envious now.

message 110: by Lubna (last edited Feb 26, 2012 03:37AM) (new)

Lubna | 93 comments Yeah, I've one four books in all (one of which by an Indian author didn't reach me, which was a surprise as I thought overseas shipments could be a problem).
At times there are issues regarding delivery. A Swedish author was kind enough to post that books shipped overseas haven't reached many and we should let her know. Then she shipped me the book again.
Just as I'm typing this I won my fifth book - Shit happens: Desi boy in America. I hope this one reaches.
I think on an average I win one/two books a year.
PS: Here is a HOT TIP as regards winning. Do review the books on your shelves. This improves your chances of winning. The main objective of GoodReads tying up with authors is that the authors benefit by word of mouth/cyberspace publicity via reviews. So your existing reviews are an indicator that when you win a book via a giveaway you will review that as well and will not be lazy about it. Good luck all.

I need lessons from you Lubna! No, I think its better you write a book titled-'101 ways of winning a giveaway'.

message 114: by Vinoth (new)

Vinoth | 4684 comments hey guys try blogadda.com. you get free books from them which you will have to review within 7 days of receipt. just finished reviewing my 1st book from them.i kinda liked the book. Urban Shots by Paritosh Uttam

there its got nothing to do with win i suppose.i dont know. there the probability is more and its not 'winning' there its just getting the books so that you will review it.if you review it within 7 days you are eligible for the next ones.. but still its kinda winning the book:P

message 119: by Lubna (new)

Lubna | 93 comments The more the merrier. I stayed at home today and browsed GoodReads for giveaway groups.

Here is one, which I joined.

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/2...

I joined a few other groups also of readers who blog etc.

If anyone else comes across groups catering to giveaways do post the url here. I love giveaways not because of the freebie per se, but because I discover a new author.

Happy Holi

message 120: by Lubna (new)

Lubna | 93 comments Here is another group, but almost all give aways are in e-format.

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/5...

Have fun

message 121: by Aditya Joshi (new)

Aditya Joshi Damn these e-format books. I can find "ANY" ebook in the internet for free - search for them in torrents, message boards, underground groups, and if all that doesn't work - find loopholes in the publishers' servers. I've already got great collection with me.

But I prefer printed ones as I can't stand the eye-strain due to screen for too long.

Bookish Indulgenges with b00k r3vi3ws (b00kr3vi3ws) :( Any sort of giveaway fixing going on??? I have been entering over a year, still haven't got a single one!!!

Congrats, dely. I have given up. Sob... sob....

message 125: by dely (new)

dely | 5485 comments Smitha wrote: "Congrats, dely. I have given up. Sob... sob...."

Why? I have won only 3 books in nearly 2 years but for me it is ok because: 1) I enter only the giveaway with the genre I know I will read and 2) because they are written in English and they aren't always very fluent to read for me.
Don't give up!

I will surely review it. Hope only that it doesn't arrive in a lot of months.

message 131: by dely (new)

dely | 5485 comments Another one, again after a lot of time: The Almond Tree.
I entered this one a lot of times because I liked the synopsis, it seems an interesting story.

@ dely, I stopped entering as I find it difficult to read the books and review those. Most often than not, those don;'t match my tastes and I end up feeling guilty for taking a long time reviewing

forgot to congratulate you, dely.

Thanks!
I enter only the giveaways that have an interesting plot. I like to read them also because they are in English so I can improve my English. Here it is difficult to find books in the original language and the one we can fins aren't interesting.
