Callie (calliekl) | 646 comments Finished An Echo in the Bone yesterday, and I can't believe I have to wait for the next installment in the series. It already feels like an eternity!

I started The Bee-Loud Glade for the discussion, and after that I'll move on to Like Water for Chocolate: A Novel in Monthly Installments with Recipes, Romances, and Home Remedies for the library book group.

Janny (jannyan) Just started reading The Lonely Polygamist bij Brady Udall. The start is promising.

Vanessa | 330 comments I'm reading The Paris Wife, a (don't know to what extent) fictionalized version of the life of Hadley Hemingway. Lots of Midnight in Paris ambiance and beautiful writing.

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I'm 2/3 of the way thru Dracula in Love and I love this one. Its a really good version of the Dracula story.

Callie, sorry we missed you on the live chat. Just FYI, Steve Himmer told us that he's doing an event at Gibson's Bookstore in Concord, NH on 8/4 -- not sure if that's anywhere near you, but if it is, it should be a fun night. He's also at Brookline Booksmith on (I think) 8/15.

It was a great chat, and Steve was a very entertaining guest!

Can't believe I missed it, I had my evening all planned out, got distracted, and when I checked the time it was after 9. One of those weeks.

The Bee-Loud Glade is so captivating, I basically want to just hand it to random people in the street. Fabulous.

Darn - I missed it too. Is it recorded?

The Time Traveller's Wife is the best. So, just pick it up again...

Yes, I think so -- go to http://www.talkshoe.com and search for booksonthenightstand -- recording should be there for you to listen or download.

Joanne-in-Canada (inkling_jo) | 255 comments Sometimes I pick up and put down a string of books, unable to settle into any of them, and despair that I'll never read a book again! Fortunately, the fourth book that I tried seems to have grabbed me. It's The Colony of Unrequited Dreams by Wayne Johnston, a novel about Joey Smallwood, who was Newfoundland's first premier after the country joined Canada in 1949.

I'm also trying to finish the 9th book of my "11 in 11" challenge, The stars belong to everyone: How to enjoy astronomy by Helen Sawyer Hogg and The last best West: Women on the Alberta frontier, 1880-1930 by Elaine Silverman, a collection of reminiscences by pioneering Alberta women.

Finished Good in Bed which was OK and followed through with the promise to myself by starting Oryx and Crake.

Rita | 147 comments I just finished The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan and absolutely loved, loved, loved it. So good.

Now I'm reading A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick and Mice (for review).

The Colony of Unrequited Dreams is one of my very favorites! I did not know anything about Smallwood before reading, so I think I missed a lot of nuance that Canadians might pick up.
