Martin, George R.R - A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) buddy read start date July 5th 2011 - REVISIT JUNE 2017

I don't think we saw anyone advising Robb when he was making the decision. We just saw that Catelyn disapproved it after Theon had already been sent off. It was one of the few times when I agreed with what she was telling Robb.

When they were all pledging allegiance to him at the end of AGoT, I totally wanted him to be like, "I'm only 15. So thanks, but no thanks. One of you can be king."
It didn't seem like anything he wanted. But how do you refuse it when they're all chanting for you to be king?

I don't like that either."
Gee, why are we so sensitive? :)
#71 - BTW, with regards to this, on page 20, the Red Lady is called a "shadowbinder" - and she is from the same place as that guy, Quaithe, who is visiting/accompanying Dany is from. He is referred to as a "masked shadowbinder" in the appendix.

I wouldn't like this either if my name was Lisa
#71 - BTW, with regards to this, on page 20, the Red Lady is called a "shadowbinder" - and she is from the same place as that guy, Quaithe, who is visiting/accompanying Dany, who is referred to as a "masked shadowbinder" in the appendix.
Ah ha! Thank you for that. Now things are starting to make sense, especially the end of Chapter 42 Davos....

I don't think that would work/go over with conviction, considering King Joffrey is thirteen.

I just thought Shadow magic sounded cool. I didn't catch the Shadowbinder reference. Thanks for pointing that out.

I only caught this one, Lisarenee, b/c I have to be careful when pronouncing the name of the place they are from: Asshai.
BTW, did you see I said I could do more questions? (post #142).

I only caught this one, Lisarenee, b/c I have to be careful whe..."
Was Mirri Maz Dur also from Asshai? (Didn't Dany see shadows in the tent when MMD was "healing" Drago?)

I believe she studied/apprenticed in that city. Whoa! Good catch with the tent shadows, Sandy!

But Joff inherited the throne (um, sort of), whereas Robb is part of the rebellion. He called his banners and marched south to get his father back, not to be crowned king. And when they found out Ned was dead, I think they let it get out of hand.
It's tougher to be the usurper than it is to just inherit the crown (IMO, at least)

True, Laura. I was just responding to your "I'm only 15." comment. There as so many young people in this book with so many adult situations to deal with.

I understand. It's just, for me, 15 seems so young. Even though, I guess in Martin's world it isn't really young. A 15-year-old boy is actually a man in Westeros.

This might seem picky, so sorry if it is. Quaithe is female not male. She just wears a mask. I wonder if being a shadowbinder means she's a priestess like Melisandre.
I just think it's interesting if she's also a priestess of Asshai and R'hllor, because maybe she'll be a foil for Melisandre later. Or maybe we'll find that she's just as religiously fanatic and creepy as Melisandre but she just hides it better.

I just hope they'll be foils. Melisandre the no-good priestess up to her nefarious ways and Quaithe who is actually good and helpful. At least, so far Quaithe seems pretty good.

Not at all, Laura! I don't know enough about the character to know gender; I was just looking her up in the appendix. Always good to keep the pronouns straight. :) Thanks!

Now, that would be interesting! In this book, that doesn't mean they will necessarily be friends then, LOL!

So you think that they really "take over and become" the direwolf, not just see, hear, taste, smell, and feel what the animal is experiencing? So they can start making the decisions that direwolf makes. Sounds plausible to me, Lisarenee. But, what do I know?
Man-oh-man! Now I have to change a question!

76. Margaery Tyrell as King Joffrey’s queen? (She’s technically his aunt. Ugh, still with the incest theme.) Now how are they going to negotiate that when she is so recently a widow? Where does that leave Sansa’s fate?
77. Is Cersei in denial about her son’s sexual appetite?
78. Are you thinking like Tyrion and wondering at Cersei’s sudden affection, and the implications of what she could be up to? Or do you think she is a) attracted to Tyrion’s handling of power; or b) becoming fond of him.
79. Obviously Eddard Stark left his mark on what little conscience Theon has, as he has to suppress it. Think this will keep happening?
80. What deed do you believe Theon wants to accomplish so as to prove himself to his father and insure his name in songs?
81. Will Arya/Weasel finally come across a message that will be of use to her side?
82. Yet another “prayer-wish” wasted; do you think Arya/Weasel will be so frivolous with the last one?
83. Do you think Catelyn has become wiser after all her travels and travails? Do you like her more or less than you did at the beginning of this saga?
84. Were you surprised Brienne of Tarth pledged her sword and service to Catelyn?
85. Do you think King Robb “mind-melded” with Grey Wolf in order to sneak into Stafford Lannister’s holdings? Do you think he fed Lannister’s heart to his direwolf? Or possible remained “mind-melded” to Grey Wolf while he ate it himself?
86. Now, if I’ve got this right, in order for Edmure Tully’s plan to work, he will take even more men from Winterfell. Comments.
87. Who is “that stripling…wretched boy…” that Lord Hoster Tully, Catelyn’s father, spoke of when he thought she was Lysa? Will there be a second chance for that relationship now that Lady Lysa Arreyn is an eligible widow?
88. Will Lord Eddard Stark’s bones make it back to Winterfell to be safely entombed?

This is great! So do you think in his dreams Bran becomes Summer or inhabits his mind/body, or is he a separate direwolf?

76. Margaery Tyrell as King Joffrey’s queen? (She’s technically his aunt. Ugh, still with the incest theme.) Now how are they going to negotiate that when she is so recently a widow? Where does that leave Sansa’s fate?
Is Margaery a blood relation or just by marriage? I don't think her father would agree to this, but what do I know? I wonder if they would give up Sansa in exchange for the Kingslayer?
77. Is Cersei in denial about her son’s sexual appetite?
Does he have one?
78. Are you thinking like Tyrion and wondering at Cersei’s sudden affection, and the implications of what she could be up to? Or do you think she is a) attracted to Tyrion’s handling of power; or b) becoming fond of him.
Cersei has her own agenda. She's kissing up to put him off guard, but of course he remains suspicious.
79. Obviously Eddard Stark left his mark on what little conscience Theon has, as he has to suppress it. Think this will keep happening?
Yes, I think Theon will always be torn. Eddard treated him well, despite the overall circumstances. If it comes down to it, Theon will find it difficult to harm anyone at Winterfell.
80. What deed do you believe Theon wants to accomplish so as to prove himself to his father and insure his name in songs?
I'm not sure I understand his motivation. I think personal glory definitely is a wish for him.
81. Will Arya/Weasel finally come across a message that will be of use to her side?
With Wees out of the picture, I think Arya has a much better chance of helping herself out of her dire situation.
82. Yet another “prayer-wish” wasted; do you think Arya/Weasel will be so frivolous with the last one?
Let's hope it wasn't frivolous. I think his death will help her in the long run. The last wish will be a doozy though, maybe Tywin or the Mountain.
83. Do you think Catelyn has become wiser after all her travels and travails? Do you like her more or less than you did at the beginning of this saga?
I certainly do admire her courage. I'm still bitter at how badly she treated Jon. I hope in the end he saves her or someone in her family and she is eternally grateful.
84. Were you surprised Brienne of Tarth pledged her sword and service to Catelyn?
I wasn't surprised. Didn't seem like she had anywhere else to go, and she was grateful that Catelyn didn't lie and say Brienne killed Renly (which she could have easily done).
85. Do you think King Robb “mind-melded” with Grey Wolf in order to sneak into Stafford Lannister’s holdings? Do you think he fed Lannister’s heart to his direwolf? Or possible remained “mind-melded” to Grey Wolf while he ate it himself?
Ooooo, that is a GREAT question! I don't think he would have fed the heart to his direwolf or ate it himself. As Catelyn said, he is not a savage (or something to that effect).
86. Now, if I’ve got this right, in order for Edmure Tully’s plan to work, he will take even more men from Winterfell. Comments.
I don't remember details from his plan, but if it means more men taken from Winterfell, I am not sure I want to keep reading.
87. Who is “that stripling…wretched boy…” that Lord Hoster Tully, Catelyn’s father, spoke of when he thought she was Lysa? Will there be a second chance for that relationship now that Lady Lysa Arreyn is an eligible widow?
I thought perhaps he was referring to Littlefinger.
There's some secret in Hoster's mind, I think.
88. Will Lord Eddard Stark’s bones make it back to Winterfell to be safely entombed?
Yes, I believe so.

76. Margaery Tyrell as King Joffrey’s queen? (She’s technically his aunt. Ugh, still with the incest theme.) Now how are they going to negotiate that when she is so recently a widow? Where does that leave Sansa’s fate?
I don’t technically see this as incest because she’s not his aunt by blood. She’s his aunt through marriage. This is from the standpoint of people assuming that Robert really was his father. Being that Jaime is his father, she’s not anything to him. It wouldn’t be the same as Sansa marrying Edmure Tully. It would be like if she married Jon Arryn (assuming he was alive and cuckoo bird wasn't).
The marriage itself is only a political tool, to make sure Highgarden stays loyal to Joffrey.
77. Is Cersei in denial about her son’s sexual appetite?
Cersei is in denial about everything horrible about Joffrey. He’s her little angel. Of course, Cersei herself isn’t exactly a paragon of ideal sexuality, you know, what with the three children born of an incestuous union with her twin.
78. Are you thinking like Tyrion and wondering at Cersei’s sudden affection, and the implications of what she could be up to? Or do you think she is a) attracted to Tyrion’s handling of power; or b) becoming fond of him.
Cersei loathes Tyrion from what we’ve seen and this is something that has been a part of her for like 30 years (I don’t actually know how old they both are, but thereabouts). So when she suddenly shows affection, I’m like, “What’s she up to?”
79. Obviously Eddard Stark left his mark on what little conscience Theon has, as he has to suppress it. Think this will keep happening?
Not quite an answer, but an observation. I thought it very interesting that Theon clearly had affection for Eddard, who basically raised him as a son with Robb and Jon, but at the same time, Theon wants very much to live up to what Balon expects of him. I think he's more a wolf than a kraken. He’s basically a Stark in everything but name. He loved Winterfell and he hated being back home at the Iron Islands.
In a way, he and Jon Snow are very similar (and I think that may have been part of the reason why Theon was mean to Jon). They both were raised as part of the family, but weren’t really. Jon Snow wanted nothing more than to actually be a Stark and I think the more time Theon spent there, the more he wished for that too. There’s no denying that if one had to choose between having Eddard or Balon for a father, Eddard would clearly be the favorite.
82. Yet another “prayer-wish” wasted; do you think Arya/Weasel will be so frivolous with the last one?
Someone mentioned earlier that it’s like the whole “genie grants three wishes” idea. Typically, upon realizing that the first two were sort of squandered, the third one is the one that people will really think upon because they know it’s their last chance.
83. Do you think Catelyn has become wiser after all her travels and travails? Do you like her more or less than you did at the beginning of this saga?
I might like her more, but I’m not sure. Overall I pretty much hate her.
84. Were you surprised Brienne of Tarth pledged her sword and service to Catelyn?
Sort of. But it also made sense. Where else is she going to go? Catelyn didn’t have to get Brienne out of there, and this is her way of showing she’s grateful.
85. Do you think King Robb “mind-melded” with Grey Wolf in order to sneak into Stafford Lannister’s holdings? Do you think he fed Lannister’s heart to his direwolf? Or possible remained “mind-melded” to Grey Wolf while he ate it himself?
I never considered the mind-meld to get into the holdings. That seems really likely though. This is one of those times when I really wish we had Robb chapters. I don’t think he fed the Lannister’s heart to his direwolf at all though. I think it’s just one of those stories that’s told after a battle. It doesn’t seem much like Robb to cut out a man’s heart out of his chest and feed it to the direwolf.
87. Who is “that stripling…wretched boy…” that Lord Hoster Tully, Catelyn’s father, spoke of when he thought she was Lysa? Will there be a second chance for that relationship now that Lady Lysa Arreyn is an eligible widow?
I guessed the answer to this, but it’s also the right one. So I’m going to put it behind a cut if you want to see my reasoning of why I came up with it. (view spoiler)
88. Will Lord Eddard Stark’s bones make it back to Winterfell to be safely entombed?
At this point in the novels, if the men of the Night’s Watch, who take no sides in wars, can’t travel to the Wall safely, I had little hope of the Silent Sisters making the journey. Although, people are more afraid of the Silent Sisters because of their purpose, so maybe that means the outlaws roaming the lands won’t bother them at all.

#76 – I don’t think they will exchange the Kingslayer for Sansa.
#77 – FOFLMAO!
#81 & 82 – Good point about Weese now being out of the picture.
#83 – I’m still holding grudges against Catelyn over her treatment of Jon Snow, her pushing Ned into accepting the King’s Hand appointment, the fiasco with Tyrion, and leaving her younger children (and Winterfell) unattended. That said, I am softening toward her a bit. I don’t think she is an evil woman, she does have some political insight, and she doesn’t make completely wrong decisions 100% of the time. Plus, I think all this has changed her a little.
#85 – Thanks for liking the question. This all came from Lisarenee’s prodding my sluggish mind.
#87 – Even more secret than Lysa and Littlefinger? Hummm…
#88 – I wonder.

#76 – Everything you said is true. Still, ugh! as King Joffrey doesn’t know this. While I think Sansa will be thrilled, I think Margaery will be less than. :)
#79 – “I think he's more a wolf than a kraken.”
At first I thought he was really 50/50, but I think you might be right, or at least that he is realizing he is more wolf than kraken. There is a reason for the cliché, “You can’t go home again.” BTW, I like your comments about Theon and Jon Snow.
#82 – Hope it is a doozy!
#83 – LOL! Okay!
#85 – In total agreement about wanting to read a King Robb POV chapter for this one!
#87 – Good insights about you-know-who.

So when Jaqen first told her, I wondered about the logistics. Her first two choices were people there at Harrenhal, but what if she named someone who is far away? If she said Joffrey, is that a reasonable request? Can he pull that off? Or does it not matter?
Because if there are no limitations, you better believe my first two would have been Tywin and Stannis (the biggest threats to Robb). Then either Cersei or Joffrey. It's a toss up between those two. If Joff dies, Tommen takes the throne, and Cersei was Queen Regent anyway. If Cersei dies, then the king is technically still on the throne (although that doesn't always matter - Aerys Targaryen for example).
Jaqen didn't exactly give an explanation.

76. Margaery Tyrell as King Joffrey’s queen? (She’s technically his aunt. Ugh, still with the incest theme.) Now how are they going to negotiate that when she is so recently a widow? Where does that leave Sansa’s fate?
Depends on how you view family ties. If there's no blood between them then nope.
77. Is Cersei in denial about her son’s sexual appetite?
Probably. I'm not sure what they are yet. Unsure if the stripping of Sansa was for purposes of shame or just his creepy curiosity as Tyrion thought.
78. Are you thinking like Tyrion and wondering at Cersei’s sudden affection, and the implications of what she could be up to? Or do you think she is a) attracted to Tyrion’s handling of power; or b) becoming fond of him.
I wouldn't trust Cersei, but I think she now see he does have a brain. Maybe it was her way of letting him know she knows he's up to something. Maybe she suspects him of poisoning her?
79. Obviously Eddard Stark left his mark on what little conscience Theon has, as he has to suppress it. Think this will keep happening?
Probably not. I don't think much of Theon.
80. What deed do you believe Theon wants to accomplish so as to prove himself to his father and insure his name in songs?
No clue but I think it will involve taking a castle using his know how of the castles and his previous position of being ward to Eddard.
81. Will Arya/Weasel finally come across a message that will be of use to her side?
I sure hope so or that she can send one to her brother.
82. Yet another “prayer-wish” wasted; do you think Arya/Weasel will be so frivolous with the last one?
I think killing Weasel was smart, but I'm not sure if she should have chosen a different person.
83. Do you think Catelyn has become wiser after all her travels and travails? Do you like her more or less than you did at the beginning of this saga?
I'm okay with her but still not liking how she treated Jon.
84. Were you surprised Brienne of Tarth pledged her sword and service to Catelyn?
Yes, I thought she'd give her pledge to Robb.
85. Do you think King Robb “mind-melded” with Grey Wolf in order to sneak into Stafford Lannister’s holdings? Do you think he fed Lannister’s heart to his direwolf? Or possible remained “mind-melded” to Grey Wolf while he ate it himself?
I'm not sure if Robb has the mind meld capability. I think he knows the wolf is smart and so has more of a symbiotic relationship with him. Just like Jon and his wolf.
86. Now, if I’ve got this right, in order for Edmure Tully’s plan to work, he will take even more men from Winterfell. Comments.
I worry for Bran and Rickon.
87. Who is “that stripling…wretched boy…” that Lord Hoster Tully, Catelyn’s father, spoke of when he thought she was Lysa? Will there be a second chance for that relationship now that Lady Lysa Arreyn is an eligible widow?
This is an interesting question. Maybe Littlefinger. He did seem to want to see Lysa. I wonder....
88. Will Lord Eddard Stark’s bones make it back to Winterfell to be safely entombed?
Maybe, but will all of it be returned? I think a portion is still adorning the castle.

Sandy- did you happen to see the cast for season 2? I like who they picked for Brienne of Tarth. Not so sure about the actress for Margaery.

Sandy- did you happen to see the cast for season 2? I like who they picked for Brienne..."
I've never seen/heard of Gwendoline Christie, until now I'm afraid!
As for Natalie Dormer, I didn't like her at first on the Tudors, then she really grew on me. I think she'll be fine as Margaery, but I hope the producers increase her role since she's not in the book much (at least not so far!).

Only acting nominee is Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. He did a fantastic job...hope he wins!

89. Thoughts on Xaro's proposal? Think Ser Jorah is right about why he wants to wed Daenerys or is there more to it? The boys around him do seem to give Ser Jorah's theory validity.
90. What did you think of the warning that Daenerys should leave the city?
91. Do you think it wise to send Myrcella away? Could she be safer or heading to her death?
92. The Lannisters are definitely not loved. I just about died laughing when someone screamed Brotherf@cker. I don't know why but I just found that hilarious. Do I have a warped sense of humor or did anyone else find this funny?
93. Was saddened that the girl was raped, but happy Sansa came out of it okay. Thoughts of Tyrions attack on his nephew? I just kept trying to picture the height difference. A thirteen year old boy can be quite tall.
94. Tyrion seemed quite upset that people were blaming him for everything when he was trying to fix things. Do you think he may have his nephew assassinated?
95. Did I miss something? What are the chains Tyrion is having made for? They mentioned them at some point for a second time and I'm clueless.
96. Anyone else kind of grossed out by the shadow baby birth? WTH was that? Must admit I did like the argument about good, evil, and gray.
97. Do you think Davos will be allowed to live after what he saw?
98. Any thoughts on Renly's peach speach? lol It rhymed.
99. Should Jon stay or should he go? His wolf didn't seem to like where he was do you think that is a sign?
100. Was anyone else worried that the Others were coming? What do you make of the attack?
101. Do you think the horn may be used to call something that will help defeat the others? Maybe the children of the forest? I think that was what they were called.

89. Thoughts on Xaro's proposal? Think Ser Jorah is right about why he wants to wed Daenerys or is there more to it? The boys around him do seem to give Ser Jorah's theory validity.
Yeah, I think he likely bats for the other team. He probably just wants to get custody of the dragons.
90. What did you think of the warning that Daenerys should leave the city?
I am baffled as to who and who can't be trusted. It doesn't seem like she's getting any help here, so maybe leaving is a good idea. However, it could be a ruse to trap her somewhere else.
91. Do you think it wise to send Myrcella away? Could she be safer or heading to her death?
I do think it's wise because King's Landing is getting more and more dangerous. If Stannis were to attack, all of the King's family will be in peril.
92. The Lannisters are definitely not loved. I just about died laughing when someone screamed Brotherf@cker. I don't know why but I just found that hilarious. Do I have a warped sense of humor or did anyone else find this funny?
I laughed too!
I am actually missing the Kingslayer. Does he make an appearance in this book??
93. Was saddened that the girl was raped, but happy Sansa came out of it okay. Thoughts of Tyrions attack on his nephew? I just kept trying to picture the height difference. A thirteen year old boy can be quite tall.
Joffrey is a coward who relies on others to fight his battles. That said, I am surprised Tyrion gets away with this.
94. Tyrion seemed quite upset that people were blaming him for everything when he was trying to fix things. Do you think he may have his nephew assassinated?
I honestly don't think he would do that. I do think he would try to negotiate for Joffrey to step down, either for his brother or for Stannis, in order to avoid more bloodshed.
95. Did I miss something? What are the chains Tyrion is having made for? They mentioned them at some point for a second time and I'm clueless.
I am just as clueless!
96. Anyone else kind of grossed out by the shadow baby birth? WTH was that? Must admit I did like the argument about good, evil, and gray.
Yep, WTH is right! Bizarre. Now I do believe it was really a shadow that killed Renly.
It says Davos knew the shadow just as he knew the man who cast it. Who is the man who cast it? Stannis?
I am wondering why Melisandre is helping Stannis in the first place, though. What does she get out of it?
97. Do you think Davos will be allowed to live after what he saw?
I think Davos will be allowed to live as long as he proves himself loyal to Stannis.
98. Any thoughts on Renly's peach speach? lol It rhymed.
Maybe Renly was trying to say, I'm not worried about warring with you. I am so unconcerned I'm going to sit here and savor this peach.
99. Should Jon stay or should he go? His wolf didn't seem to like where he was do you think that is a sign?
I was thinking it would be safer to stay, but good point about Ghost not liking it there.
100. Was anyone else worried that the Others were coming? What do you make of the attack?
I have no idea, and I will admit I am confused with respect to the Wall, the Black Brothers, etc.
101. Do you think the horn may be used to call something that will help defeat the others? Maybe the children of the forest? I think that was what they were called.
Not sure, but that's an interesting theory.

89. Thoughts on Xaro's proposal? Think Ser Jorah is right about why he wants to wed Daenerys or is there more to it? The boys around him do seem to give Ser Jorah's theory validity.
Ser Jorah was right; Xaro wants one or all of those dragons. I think Dany knew something was up when he wasn’t checking out her bare breast (and Ser Jorah was!). I mean, come on, Khal Drogo was pretty a pretty passionate guy, so she has some experience.
90. What did you think of the warning that Daenerys should leave the city?
I'm about 90% sure she should. The other 10%? I have to consider the source.
91. Do you think it wise to send Myrcella away? Could she be safer or heading to her death?
I must admit to being worried about her, even if she is a Lannister. I don’t really know her character yet; still, I feel compassion for her as a child. Plus, I would hate for Tyrion to suffer the consequences and guilt should something happen.
92. The Lannisters are definitely not loved. I just about died laughing when someone screamed Brotherf@cker. I don't know why but I just found that hilarious. Do I have a warped sense of humor or did anyone else find this funny?
It was pretty funny, Lisarenee! I LOL too. Maybe my sense of humor is as warped as yours.
93. Was saddened that the girl was raped, but happy Sansa came out of it okay. Thoughts of Tyrion’s attack on his nephew? I just kept trying to picture the height difference. A thirteen year old boy can be quite tall.
That rape was terrible, and the poor mother. Dear Lord! King Joffrey deserved everything Tyrion dished out and more. Hopefully he had an uphill advantage.
94. Tyrion seemed quite upset that people were blaming him for everything when he was trying to fix things. Do you think he may have his nephew assassinated?
I don’t blame Tyrion for being upset; people need a scapegoat and God only knows what Queen Regent Cersei has been spreading around – or anyone else! I don’t think he would sink to hiring an assassin to kill his nephew, but I don’t think he would mind at all if he died.
95. Did I miss something? What are the chains Tyrion is having made for? They mentioned them at some point for a second time and I'm clueless.
Nope, you haven’t missed anything yet. The chains (or the making of them) have been mentioned several times, but we don’t know what they are for. We know they are big. I speculated they were for the harbor, to keep ships out, but I don’t know since then.
96. Anyone else kind of grossed out by the shadow baby birth? WTH was that? Must admit I did like the argument about good, evil, and gray.
I thought it was pretty freaky. And is King Stannis the father? Yeah, the shades of the good, the bad, and the ugly – and everything in between – was worth reading.
97. Do you think Davos will be allowed to live after what he saw?
I’m worried about his chance of survival! I predict a 99% mortality rate.
98. Any thoughts on Renly's peach speach? lol It rhymed.
Page 477. I had to go back and look it up. He even said, “Winter is coming.” Ironic that it was his life that was cut short. I sure hope he enjoyed that peach.
99. Should Jon stay or should he go? His wolf didn't seem to like where he was do you think that is a sign?
I think he should go. I wouldn’t want to stay where Ghost didn’t. Why don’t characters in literature every listen to their direwolf, dog, horse, or other animal? Duh!
100. Was anyone else worried that the Others were coming? What do you make of the attack?
I was! However, I honestly don’t know what
101. Do you think the horn may be used to call something that will help defeat the others? Maybe the children of the forest? I think that was what they were called.
I was thinking the same thing.

#89 - Your baseball analogy was a good way to put it, LOL!
#90 - Yes, I too was wondering if Quaithe, a shadowbinder, was just trying to lure her elsewhere for her own nefarious plans.
#96 - "Who is the man who cast it? Stannis?"
Really! Who was it? I'm dying of curiosity.
#100 - Glad I'm not alone in my confusion. :)

102. Cersei didn't like Tyrion attacking her son. Now she's set on getting Tommen to safety. Kind of interesting don't you think>
103. Interesting that at one time Tyrion thought of killing his sister, but now sees killing kin a terrible thing.
104. Do you think there is a connection between the mysterious Jaqen and the guy who took Varys' manhood?
105. What a horrible story Vary had to tell. To have that happen at such an early age. Now we know why he's good at changing his appearance.
106. Do you think Varys and Tyrion have bonded? Can they trust each other?
107. Do you think Tyrion telling Shae about his wife will come back to bite him in the butt?
108. Does anyone else feel Shae is going to betray him in a major way?
109. Now Catelyn must wonder what happened to Ayra. She definitely has much to fear.
110. Looks like the green dream is going to come true. Now we know what Theon was up to. Anyone surprised? Do you think his father will be happy?
111. Okay, I have to say I like Jaqen, but now Ayra owes him a death? That is what he meant right? He would have taken her with him? Any thought on Jaqen?
112. Do you think it was wise of Arya to not reveal her identity?
113. What happened to Littlefinger? Do you think it was wrong of Tyrion to give him the documents he did with the seal? Could he misuse them?

102. Cersei didn't like Tyrion attacking her son. Now she's set on getting Tommen to safety. Kind of interesting don't you think?
What are you thinking? That she has something planned for Tyrion? I hadn’t even thought of that.
103. Interesting that at one time Tyrion thought of killing his sister, but now sees killing kin a terrible thing.
That was probably when he was young and she was so privately and publically cruel toward him.
104. Do you think there is a connection between the mysterious Jaqen and the guy who took Varys' manhood?
Wow! I hadn’t made that connection. In this book, there could be.
105. What a horrible story Varys had to tell. To have that happen at such an early age. Now we know why he's good at changing his appearance.
Pretty brutal, not to mention inhumane. Explains a lot.
106. Do you think Varys and Tyrion have bonded? Can they trust each other?
Just a tad. I think there is still a healthy amount of distrust between them. They are both too smart to believe otherwise.
107. Do you think Tyrion telling Shae about his wife will come back to bite him in the butt?
I don’t think so, but I’ve been wrong so many times in this series.
108. Does anyone else feel Shae is going to betray him in a major way?
I think there is more of a possibility now that he slapped her. She wasn’t listening to his words, only his actions. She didn’t feel his fear.
109. Now Catelyn must wonder what happened to Ayra. She definitely has much to fear.
And she should!
110. Looks like the green dream is going to come true. Now we know what Theon was up to. Anyone surprised? Do you think his father will be happy?
I was surprised it was Theon who took Winterfell. I figured that was Lord Balon Greyjoy’s objective a while ago; however, just realized Theon’s objective his chapter b/f this. Will his father be happy? Hmmm… I’m getting a feeling, not so much.
111. Okay, I have to say I like Jaqen, but now Ayra owes him a death? That is what he meant right? He would have taken her with him? Any thought on Jaqen?
Or maybe more than one death? I’m not sure. Yes, I think he would have taken her with him. My other thoughts on him are mainly about who the hell else he could be in this story!!
112. Do you think it was wise of Arya to not reveal her identity?
Yes. Very much so. I also like that she become Nymeria. I think she learned this from Jaquen and it brings her just one step closer to becoming the Warrior Queen she is meant to be. :-)
113. What happened to Littlefinger? Do you think it was wrong of Tyrion to give him the documents he did with the seal? Could he misuse them?
I think he is up to no good. He fooled me once, so not again! I think he could do just about anything.

I wondered at one point if He could be Varys, but I can't see him being the one on the trip to the wall. Did he disappear from the story for a while? He does seem to vanish for a fair amount of time.

Yes! I wondered if the same thing were possible. If I had know this, I would have done a timeline as I read along, LOL!

Me too! I don't think she lost her maidenhead to him, though; that seemed pretty clear. Still... Wondered about her guilt when he was wounded.

I agree
Laura also said, "What I am mad about is that he put complete trust in Theon and sent him back to his father alone.
(Edit: Plus, Theon was a hostage to keep his father in line. Which makes it even worse to send Theon back!)
Honestly, that seemed like a bad move at the time and as time goes on it makes me even more frustrated.
Very good point.
