Suggest you look under Scandinavian and Nordic Crime Fiction...there had been quite a bit discussed there about TKOLC, also published as Mercy.

Here's a thread with a bit more about Jussi Adler-Olsen (of the Keeper of Lost Causes) http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...

The Snowman finished (and very much enjoyed), I think it's time for some Lucifer's Tears next. :)

Kath | 20 comments currently reading Hypothermia, the only book by Arnaldur Indradason in my local library. so far I like it and will be reading more from this author.

Nora | 7 comments As usual, I have more books going than I can reasonably finish. Just finished Queen of Fashion which I truly enjoyed. Am just about done with Killed at the Whim of a Hat which is rich with George Bushisms and hilarious. Am also reading a Carrion Death which is somewhat disappointing so far. I drift back and forth between history and mysteries.

Art | 53 comments Death Watch just got bumped for Unseen due to it being a interlibrary loan and I don't have the ability to renew.

Nora | 7 comments I'm reading The Murder Room. The writing is poor and disorganized but the stories are compelling. Normally I wouldn't bother with such poor writing. However, in this case the stories carry the book.

Art | 53 comments Back to finish up Death Watch.
Unseen was a better read then I had hoped for. Almost like Wallander if he still had a family and no Linda.

Since Goodreads is just so much better for finding recommendations and reviews for books than the traditional book review places (magazines, newspapers etc), I figured time to make some polls too. :)
So there are 2 polls open until 28 December. No hurry voting...
So essentially for the best World crime book you read in 2011, and the best world author of 2011, again based on the books YOU personally read. It's got a handful of choices in each, and feel free to add anything you want to vote in it if it's not listed (more in the polls or front page).

Definitely suggest a book to your local library if they don't have it in their collection. If you can't find a link to do that on the library's website, ask the librarians. Nesbø is definitely something a lot of other readers will enjoy too, so they don't have to worry about catering to too eclectic a taste (thanks to the Stieg Larsson effect).

Aren't her books wonderful? I always look forward to a new one. Drawing Conclusions was the last one and lovely visit to Venice.

Louise Penny was recommended to me by a good friend and I was interested to read Ian Rankin mentioning her during his recent trip to Canada. Must get the first few and get started too but have such a large, tall pile to get through first.
We love Brunetti. Enjoy the books so much and the films. Also have the walking book and cookbook. Such fun. Enjoy the home life parts as well as the police colleagues and the fabulous atmosphere of lovely Venice. Also D Leon gets quite into many current European problems. Good reads.

Pat (infosleuth) | 42 comments 187 (Sharon) - I'm about to do some catching up with Louise Penny, too. I've got Bury Your Dead at the top of the pile. I'm a fan of Donna Leon's books also. Based on your comments I'm sure you would enjoy Martin Walker's Bruno series set in southern France. I've read all the books in that series so far and look forward to the latest. Like Leon, Walker uses his characters and locations to focus attention on wider issues. Very insightful as well as entertaining.

Hi Pat, I have both on my TO READ list and hope to get caught up one of these days so I can branch out again. They both sound very good to me and have seen a few recommendations plus a good friend in Canada really recommended L.Penny to me. Till now only had Kathy Reichs in Montreal a bit but will enjoy them once I get started I think.

Currently reading the last of the Wallander books for me. I started years ago and went forward and as the television series were being heavily enjoyed on tv I did not go back to the beginning. Now I have just been reading the 4 I had missed and enjoy them so very much. They will remain my favorites along with dear Rebus.

When I was young I was totally addicted, entire family was, to the fabulous Perry Mason series with Raymond Burr, on television. In fact, I wanted to be like D Street and work in a law office for a PM....ah, should read some just to enjoy the memories.

John Swanson | 7 comments I also love Donna Leon and have, sadly, read them all but I just started "Bruno, Chief of Police" by Martin Walker and am thoroughly enjoying it. Through all of these European authors, it's been interesting to get the picture of the impact of immigration on each country. Clearly, none are immune and former colonizer's/empires like France have a unique history and responsibilty. It's a fun way to discover a little history.

Lisa Hackenberg | 1 comments Hi everyone, I am a newbie. I am currently reading “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, I still have a half read “Heat Wave - Castle” on my kindle and I recently read “The Lincoln Lawyer” after getting completely lost watching the movie (but that might have more to do with Matthew McConaughey.) Usually I like to read the book first like “And Then There Were None” & “Sherlock Holmes” then watch the movie. I think I have name dropped enough for this post. I’ll be lurking…
