This doesn’t fit in this category but in case there are other fans like me out there, I want to share this tragic news. Read all she wrote over the years with great enjoyment. RIP

Vintage Books & Anchor Books
We are sad to report that Anita Shreve, the beloved writer and bestselling novelist, died of cancer yesterday at her home in New Hampshire. She was 71.
Anita was the author of nineteen novels, including The Pilot’s Wife, Resistance, and The Weight of Water, which were all made into movies. Her first story, Past the Island, Drifting, was published in 1975, and her first novel, Eden Close, was published in 1989. Her final work, The Stars Are Fire, was published by Knopf in 2017, and was just released in paperback by Vintage Books.
Her editor Jordan Pavlin said: "Anita's writing has touched the lives of millions of readers around the world, and she did some of her most elegant, rich, and unforgettable work in the last years of her life. Her body of work is extraordinary, and her books will continue to be read for generations.”

I am thoroughly enjoying reading the latest The Temptation of Forgiveness (Commissario Brunetti #27) by Donna Leon. Always a joy spending time in Venice and I note I am reading slow to enjoy it. Amazing there have been 27 of these! Enjoy the tv films of each book Germany makes too over the years.

Also am well into but confess slow....SARAH DUNANT. Renaissance Italy and UK Following Blood and Beauty. May 2013 UK. Borgias.
In The Name of The Family, BORGIAS/MACHIAVELLI 1502! iBooks March 2, 2017......Just taking me ages as I fear I may have had enough Borgias...too many tv series and books over the years for me. Having said that, she is the best writer to read on the topic .....

I liked it, a solid 4 stars. It is a depressing tale of murder and corruption in Putin's Russia. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I read it and I liked it, though I didn't read it in English. I know some of the social issue is outdated (think that book was written in 90s) and knew what was going on but her writing just got me in. Could be the translation issue, or it's just not your cup of tea!

I loved her short story collection, Apparitions: Ghosts of Old Edo, but haven’t read Worth or Crossfire, the two novels for which she is best known, although I want to. Just curious, why are you thinking about abandoning it? (No moral judgment here; I support readers ditching books they aren’t feeling.)

I keep feeling like I must be missing something though given Manchette's importance and reputation as a game-changer. More processing needs to occur, it seems.
