Tim | 2 comments The Wallander Series is fantastic.

I enjoyed reading "The Pyramid" as the last. it is was interesting to see a young Wallander, after having known him all the years through the series.

KEVIN I'Brannan's Runm currently reading BRANNANS RUN and it really is tremendous fun. Its a contemporary adventure thriller set in Thailand. All the characters are interesting and well drawn in a way that doesn't hold up the action which never flags. The settings are evocative and really transport you to Thailand. All in all this is an outstanding example of pure escapist fiction. And it has a great twist that you'll never see coming. Enjoy !

I'm blissfully in Venice with Commissario Brunetti. Amazed it's the 26th book in this series I've been delighting to since 1992! Donna Leon's latest, just out Earthly Remains. Very happy.

Has anyone any comments about Daniel Silva's series with main character Gabriel Allon? Just read The English Girl (Gabriel Allon #13). Daniel Silva (USA). iBook. A new writer for me. Recommended by a good friend in Canada. Will continue this series, when time permits. But from here as he has written quite a few!

The English Spy. Gabriel Allon. #15. 2015
The Black Widow. Gabriel Allon. #16. 2016.

Mark, I suspect you misunderstood me. I've read this series since the start in 1992. And basically all Donna Leon has written outside the Brunetti series. One of my favourite authors.

Miss M | 16 comments I've been a Brunetti fan since the beginning too - actually read a lot of the books in German back in the nineties when she was having trouble finding English publishers.

Came across this interview this weekend, which I enjoyed:

Thank you so very much! Excellent article. We read her and enjoy her humanity so much plus her fabulous ability to use English well. Have you watched the very many German tv films on the books? We like them very much.

No, and I doubt my German is not good enough for that unless there are subtitles. I don't think they have been broadcast in the UK, but I must have look and see if they are on DVD!

Susan, looks like they are available on DVD with subtitles, also on Amazon/Mhz streaming in the US. Hope you get a chance to try them out!

Thanks for that - unfortunately the DVDs are for region 1 only - so no good to me in Scotland! I would have thought they would have upgraded to region 2 since the series was originally European - but what do I know?

They are European format originally and made by Germany. I watch on ARD. Amazon Germany is a good source. The USA imports on Amazon UK are the only ones with English subs that I have seen. Remember your Amazon account allows you to use any Amazon and I sure do.

Assume U.K. Has not sub titled due to lack of demand. Some times occurs that English subs for some scandi comes via Oz! Or did before the genre popularity got greater.

Shown as tv films following each book. Previously there were earlier tv films with a different cast. The current cast has been going for years and I even see them as I read a new book now.

As always it was a very good read but it was IMHO way longer than it needed to be, which is unlike Jo Nesbo! Especially his early books and stand alones are so sharp and concise! Many side issues. AND way too gory. NOT my kind of thing. However, I like the character of Harry Hole from day one and after all these years will stick with him. HH character development has been good. Just surprised at the direction and hope the next will NOT continue on with this type of crime! Still a very good read!

Reading the new Roy Grace novel by Peter James, Need You Dead....same old stuff but moving along nicely.
Meanwhile, why is it that almost all the writers I follow, publish at the same time. I am behind now on at least 8 downloads!!!! Such pressure.
