message 1: by Isaiah (new)

Isaiah Thomas This book has a social issue in it. The social issue in this book is domestic violence and stress. The main character Ben Mckee is a new student at Bluford High School. His mother meets a new man named Larry. At first he seemed like a nice guy. But after a couple of weeks he starts to show his true colors. Eventually ben sees him for what he really is, an abusive drunk. Larry starts to hit Ben and his mother. Larry threatens that if Ben would ever tell then he would find him and beat him. I think Larry does this because he needs some type of outlet for his anger. He lost his job. This may be why Larry hits his family so much. And the process would keep going on. This would go on until students and teachers start to notice his bruises. Ben lies. He thinks by keeping this secret he is keeping the family safe.
